In India, Income Tax is severely imposed which is necessary for every government to carry out development work effectively. In Pakistan, Indirect Taxes are given importance and thus there's no equalty and we are usually begging.
The crucial issue involved here is taking out the main agency of India involved in unearthing the frauds & scams of unaccounted money of gigantic proportion. By doing so, the people in power will have the information but citizens will not be allowed to access the information about the unaccounted money and high level corruption involving politicians, bureaucrats, businessmen or even terrorists. The whole issue pertains to efforts at maintaining secrecy but not transparency.
I agree, I think Taxation & Accountability aside, the politicians in power always have other key law enforcement agencies awaiting their orders to surreptitiously investigate any subject without given them the chance of being heard; sometimes the authority has to initiate covert modus operandi and take undisclosed measures to deal with the situation as deemed right but then again the core argument is the rightful significance and faithfulness of their procedures regarding the nation's affairs.
You may read my representation to the President of India on Google Group - Right to Information Act 2005 - by typing - Facts must be disclosed :Did mole Chawla leak secrets? Gopalaswami believes so...- Or simply typing MOLE in search option for the Group. The reply here does not accept URLs.
IT- investigation branch is vested with wide power.More often they take advantage of helplessness of assesses & use the opportunity to decamp with huge bribe. The government should raid atleast few of them to find out the truth.
That being the observation, I sent an email to Dr Manmohan Singh Prime Minister of India that he should ensure all Union and Ministers and Ministers in the States belonging to Congress file their income tax returns in time before 31 July 2008. These defaulters should be penalised first before general public.
My large no. of messages to PM and RTI applications filed with PMO on such issues can be read at Google Group Right to Information Act 2005. Messages are in public domain without logging in or without becoming member of the Group.
