When I first switched from manual to back to automatic, the lack of control made me uneasy. It is especially noticeable when you break and realize you cannot quickly downshift to help augment your speed.
I have both in my car, It's both manual and automatic, only without a clutch pedal. What I also liked about the car, is that it will keep on that gear no matter what, until you shift it of course! Other cars intrusively shift for you when you reach a certain rev, and I hate that. I like the automatic for when I feel lazy, or just want a relaxing drive while talking to passengers or goofing around. The Manual is for when I'm 200% focused, and want to get from A to B as quickly as possible.
I would love to see this is woman heal and toe and left foot brake. It annoys me when people try to preach thinking they know what they're talking about when they've barely grasped the basics.

This is great, but I doubt that you are going to learn stick simply by watching youtube videos. driving stick can't be explained in words, you just have to watch others do it and try it yourself.
@hunterlpdc94 As someone who has recently learned you are ABSOLUTELY correct. All the YouTube vids did for me was prime me on the basics. When you're learning you NEED to feel it for yourself to understand it. Doing a few no-gas starts and actually feeling where the friction point was is what turned the light bulb on for me.

In my opinion if a stick shift car uses a Drive-By-Wire system then it significantly decreases the fun of it.
Car manufactures: if the car you're producing is offered with a manual transmission, just use a damn metal wire to control the throttle body! You don't need no fancy computer controlled throttle body to control the automatic transmission!
Boy, will those exotic car clients be disappointed in the near future! Ferrari and Lamborghini no longer use manual transmissions in their new cars! It looks like Lotus is going the same way. Even BMW does not use manual transmissions in many of their higher-end cars anymore! Porsche still has them, and there are always affordable economy cars...
Also automatics have more loss of power through the drivetrain so they require more rpm's to move as fast as an stick shift. Making a stick shift easier on your engine!

I.e, someone requires a driving licence for work, they'll mostly take automatic lessons as they're piss-easy. And some people may just not get to grips with a manual at all, and will opt for an automatic. (Off-the-record, I wouldn't touch an automatic. Manly Manual for me, lol)

So, essentially, you'd be sacrificing fuel for effort. And, in manual's favour, there's all these new, fuel-saving engine models. VW's 'BlueMotion', SEAT's 'EcoMotive' etc. In the end, it's all down to preference. As for traffic driving, I live in an outskirts-y area, so not much in the way of traffic.

'Better MPG' is an old line that really no longer applies. Modern cars have only an MPG difference of 2-5MPG at best with the automatic/manual version. Coincidentally, my car has a manual model...and it actually has *worse* rated MPG.
Still, I don't think the knowledge is obsolete. Most of the world drives manual, so it's good to know too. Frankly, if it weren't for that fact, then I wouldn't have even bothered learning how to drive manual.

If manual gearbox is so good then why the hell most drivers can't accelerate from the fucking traffic lights properly ? It's like this: the cars with automatic gearbox start driving immediately when the light turns green and then they go desired speed quickly. Most of the drivers which prefer manual gearbox behave like this: the light turns green and lots of morons waste time looking for the gear stick, waiting for the gar in front of them to go, etc.

What's with the "slots" for the location of the gears on this car?
Any driver of a stick should "intuitively" or automatically know the location of the gears of a stick without some pansyass "slot" to tell you "where" the gear is!

Stick shift is amazing.. and i find automatic boring.. i feel like, if ur gonna buy something that has alot of power, stick is the way to go. you can really get in touch with that power when you control the transmission. i love stick shift.

Please remember this--driving a car with a manual transmission slowly up a steep incline is an ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE!!!!! If your city is full of steep hills, make yourself a favor and buy a car with an automatic transmission. You'll be glad you paid the extra bucks. Trust me!!!
