  • this is literally soooo beautiful, I am learning this song right now and I just want to thank you for being such an inspiration to me as a classical guitar player. this video is actually what made me want to play this song, and I hope I will be able to play it like you do. also what kind of guitar are you using here?

  • greetings from south america per-olov, this is one of my favorite songs youve ever played, and in your guitar sounds amazing, mine is good but its getting very old, can you tell me what guitar do you have, or any recomendation for a new one?

  • May I just ask, why when playing lute music, you always put the capo on the second fret instead of the more conventional third? Beautiful playing!

  • Bravo

  • this is awesome you are a really good player !! can you share your record setup pleaseeee???????? thanks!!!!!!!

  • Thank you. I have 2 good microphones AKG C 480 B that I attach to the camcorder via a mixer. In the video editing software, Pinnacle Studio Pro, I mix the sound from the microphones with the video. That is it really... I have a very good guitar of course! And have worked very hard all my life to have a good sound from my fingernails.

I hope this information helps and you will get started!

Kind regards and good luck! :-)

  • lol "all lefts reserved" anyone else catch that

  • Hi Per-Olov, I've come back to your Renaissance pieces. Do you know what "contrahaze" means. Google Translate doesn't know...

  • Hi Peter.

    Thanks!

Yes it means something like "Contrapunkt" It's long to explain here. Google it... :-)

    Per-Olov

  • Hey, what a great idea! Well, faqs.org comes back with "Fantasia que contrahaze la harpa en la manera de Ludovico = A Fantasia imitating the harp in the style of Ludovico" So, It's IMITATING. Of course, a serach for "Ludovico" doesn't help much on the face of it. Popular name...

  • Wow

  • Wow! you are SO good! Thank you for such musical beauty!

  • Que hermosuraa!! de por Dios maestrooo, felicitaciones!

  • Mr. Kindgren...can I ask you a question....did you downtune your G for this piece? and I'm sorry but I can't make out which fret you have the capo on...2nd or 3rd?

  • Hi there. Thanks for listening to me. Yes, the 3rd string is tuned down to F# and I have a capo in 3rd fret.

    Hope it helps.

    Per-Olov

  • @AndanteLargo thanks...I see you always answere your listeners questions; you got a fan here...

    keep on rockin' Mr. Kindgren

  • What an exquisite sound! Perfect combination of an exceptional guitarist and an excellent guitar. Simply beautiful. Thank you for the wonderful music. Keep playing!

  • Thank you! Please keep listening to me.

    Kind regards,

    Per-Olov

  • nice sound

  • BONITA, PERO ESTA MEJOR LA DE DAVID RUSELL!!

  • Anyone who's giving this a thumbs down is a musical ignoramus. Plain and simple.

  • Marvelous! The reverb made it even more Fantasia-like.

  • I;m so thankfull that i finally know now from who this is. Had an L.P. in the seventies with this peace on it. In the eighties everything in the house got stolen, including all my L.P.'s. Had no clue who the composer was and searched everywhere. Now you brought it back to me. Thanks alot.

  • This is from Mudarra?

Please answer me ^^ by the way. U are an amazing guitar player :)

    thanks for share

  • @maurorock445 Yes this Mudarra, its Fantasia X

  • Yes it is Mudarra. Fantasia no. X

    Kindly,

    Per-Olov

  • You are amazing!!!

    Per-Olov

  • masterpiece. music is the universal truth.

  • What make is your guitar? Love it!

  • It is very good i think.Bravo from Greece! (-:

  • man who would go out of there way to give this video thumbs down? People are too stupid.

  • Thanks! Not everyone has to like my playing. That's OK.

    I am happy you do!

    Per-Olov

  • @metalwizard13 well.. some people can hear sloppy playing even through tons of reverb ;)

  • mais uma vez bravissimo-gostava muito que tocasse esta musica:Pasacaglia_handel

  • Hello ! Awesome sound ! I'm trying to get myself a recording kit. What microphone do you use ? It's so crystal clean !

  • Hello ! Awesome sound ! I'm trying to get myself a recording kit. What microphone do you use ? It's so crystal clean !

  • That is one of the most beautiful pieces of music that I have ever heard, thank you.

  • great. well played. (fullstop)

  • Hej, Per-Olov! Really great to hear a high quality and original performance of this. I have only previously heard the rock version by Sky (John Williams, Francis Monkman etc. from the album Sky 4). But I do really love the sound of the original solo instrument - always very refreshing.

    Tusen tack för posten!

  • Its been ages since I've called a guitar performance beautiful, but this is the only word to describe it.

Amazing performance, so much feeling into it, literally made me shiver in the part nearing its end, I wonder if I can try to play it though?

  • This is exactly the way I hear this piece in my head.

  • excellent. Great tones you are coaxing fromt hat instrument in this tune. Very lovely to listen to!!!

  • you sound quality is amazing

  • Your sound is icreadible, and I dont think it's because the video has great quality!

  • nice, and the ending is throwen away as usual.. (last four time)

  • Very nice playing and a beautiful tone.

    Congratulations!

  • what a lovely room sound. bravo.

  • beautiful performance! when you listen to lutenists and vihuelists perform this piece, this is the perfect tempo...so many guitarists fly through this piece and destroy the musicality of this gorgeous piece! i'm glad that you play it musically rather that just fast!

  • i like this tempo because i can apreciatte the music more deeply

  • I like your interpretation of this piece! Usually it's played faster but you get it to sound relly good this slow too =)

  • Very nice playing however I believe the tempo should be faster to give it that fantasia sound and also there are some wrong notes and you should really cut off those bass notes and not let them ring throughout the whole song like the music says. I believe that it just sounds a lot better with the shorter bass notes. Just my opinion though. Great performance as always. I love your channel:)

  • Awesome song. I started learning it about an hour ago and I have about 32 seconds of it memorized. Woohoo.

  • learning this one :) hope to will play it as well as you sir :)

  • me encantaria tocar asi la guitarra.

  • ce sublime!

  • hey... why do you always play the pieces i want to play jajaja jk lol

i truly love the way u play

and i also want to play this piece so

i would be honored if u can give me some advices to play fantasia. THANKS

  • Dude I just can't find a single flaw with ur music! So awsome! I wish there were more flawless guitar magicians like you in this world! -michan-

  • hi! do you have the tabs?? thnks! great job

  • Did you get sheet music for this?

  • das mein hobby !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • When did you start to play the guitar?

    Awesome....

  • helt klart den vackraste covers jag hört :) så underbart och lyssna på dig

All the best and keep listening!

    Per-Olov

  • this is really amazing i started learning these kind of songs but i cant seem to find any begginer level music any suggestions?

  • sei un grande

  • esatto!

  • No tengo palabras...

  • thank.s master you are wondrefoul guitariste!!

  • Beautiful voicing in the "False Notes" section with the two conflicting modes moving past each other between bass line and descant.

I know this piece quite well, and you play it superbly.

  • Hi Per-Olov,

Nice playing. The fingering is very difficult in this piece, especially when the two voices are singing against each other. I am curious, when a capo is used, does it change the notes on the guitar, or are you reading the notes corresponding to the fret just as though the capo was not there?

  • Hi there.

Thank you for your kind comment.

With the capo you are reading the notes as if you hadn't one! No difference in fingerings but only transposing the key...

Good luck with this great piece!

    Per-Olov

  • All lefts reserved, heh heh.

  • Oi, sniffy 45, tudo bem?! You mean, reversed ^^!

  • I used to practise the guitar a lot but havent been able to play as much as I would like to due to family and work commitments and have lost touch with the instrument.

Whenever I need a bit of a reminder as to what a beautiful instrument it is I listen to you here and it does the trick.I really love your tone and the echo your studio creates. Thanks for inspiring all of us.

  • Do you teach?

Let me congratulate you... your way to play its fantastic!!!

    Just please load more videos...

  • I was just wondering what tuning did you use for this? And how did you learn it? I found tabs from classtab (dot) org but I don't know if they are right. Any tips on how to learn songs in general? Thanks

  • Hi! I have a tuning that is:

E B F# D A E And a capo in 3rd. fret. I never use tabs! I read this from sheet music that one can buy everywhere.

    Kindly,

    Per-Olov

  • hi, i got the sheet music from my guitar teacher, but i think this particular publisher made a lot of errors. can you tell me where did you buy your music exactly?

  • Hi,

This is a transcription by Emilio Pujol. I thinkit's the most used version on th market. I bought it many years ago. Try Chanterelle(com) they have many things!

    Per-Olov

  • @AndanteLargo That's why it sounds so familiar! That's the transcription I have.

  • Which publsher?

Mudarra himself wrote in the MS.

"From here to the end there are some false notes, if played well, they do not sound bad."

PS: unless you are past intermediate level, your guitar teacher is trying to knock you down a peg, IMO.

  • I read the MS, and i think that he is talking about the bass notes of the 2-voicing part, which IMO, they sound great.

But i meant putting the sharp sign kind of errors.

And, I dont think so. I pretty much have the whole song down, except for those last 4 measures.

  • I have the edition Pujol as well. I consider it best.

Before my stroke I played lute and vihuela de Mano as well.

But usually from reproductions of Tab.

    ->AdventKingBand --

    Now I am confused.

You said you got the sheet music from your teacher and that you thought the publisher made a lot of errors.

The edition your teacher gave you was what my question was about.

But yes, the little section at the end with the passing augmented 8ve is exquisite, and IMO represents pre-reconquesta elements.

  • that is beautiful...Such a wonderful playing...I wish i'll play like this soon...

  • Thanks! I am sure you will if you practise. I did! :-)

    All the best,

    Per-Olov

  • this is very, very entertaining. i enjoyed every second. keep it up.

  • Thank you. I will. Please keep listening to me.

    Kindly,

    Per-Olov

  • If i ever own a house I'm doing exactly what you and breamy have done, make the attic super resonant, or even just dedicate one room to music resonance... btw, GREAT playing. I'm too often critical but I loved your interpretation of it.

  • Thank you. I am happy you like my playing... and house... :-)

It's great to have a huge room only for music.

    All the best,

    Per-Olov

  • I should have known it better!

You did it already. And again: perfectly !!!

But a man must do what he has to do:

so I also recorded Fantasia - sigh - with a lot of mistakes !

    Sorry,

    wolfgang

  • :-) No my friend, you play it very well indeed!!

    I love your version too!

    Cheers,

    Peo

  • Wonderful!

  • muy bien ejecutado

  • You play slow but with good tone... you are the Anti-John Williams!

  • Ahhh. that is one of the best comments i got! Thank you! Appreciated.

    Per-Olov

  • I have a question. Im playing this for my UIL competition, but i have seen that many use a capo at the 2nd. is it mandatory?

  • what uil competition does guitar? Why haven't I been told haha. Unless they have a certain addition notated that has the capo in the music, then you can do whichever one you like.

  • well, i dont really have the specifics, but i live in houston and im doing this for my high school guitar department.

  • Hi! I am sorry for the late reply. We use a capo to risen the pitch so it is more like the lute that was tunes higher than a modern guitar. Often on 3rd. fret...

Good luck with the competition. Let me know how it went, OK?

    Per-Olov

  • why'd u use the bar gripper thingy?

  • The tone quality on your guitar is amazing and really resonant. It makes the pieces sound that much more beautiful.

  • Thank yuo! I have a beautiful instrument!

    Kindly,

    Per-Olov

  • plz tell me how long u played guitar .. uh man u make me feel its so hard to be like u or close to theat performance ,, and who is marie if u wanna answer? and is she still alive?

  • I like his tempo, it reminds me of the music that wwould go along a great quest.

  • Heyy good sir. I love the piece. I'm learning it right now for my University audition and I love your playing.

  • Exactly it's fantasia X. I think you play it too slow a little bit. Anyway - sounds good. 4/5

  • Does any one know where to get the notes for this for free.

  • Can you tell me what kind of guitar suporter (on your left lap) you use and where to buy it? . Thankyou

  • you play most of your songs

    kinda slow and layed back

    its chilln

    amazing player

  • alwais very good. is a pleasure to listen

  • Very sensitive! Personally, I would play the beginning with as much open strings as possible, I have a feeling that's what the composer intended. Gj!

  • Hi! Long time - no see! How are you?

I AM playing the beginning with all the open strings I can! I don't understand your idea here. Could you please tell me where I could do that more?

    Kindly,

    Per-Olov

  • I think what he meant is the opening you used a lot of hammer-on pull-off, I think the original composer intended, at least my guitar tab says, that the opening is like this:

    -----0-----0

    ---4-----4

    -6-----6

    And so on.

  • the best acoustics out of all your videos!

  • I love your style!!

    9999999999 stars!!!!!

  • This is wonderful.

  • Without even listening to all your videos I can certainly say that this one stands out.You have added your own few lines to the poem composed by Mudarra.Beautiful.Thanks for posting.

  • LOL. Thanks. Appreciated!

    Kind regards,

    Per-Olov

  • Wonderful sir .... i can go on listening to this .. love

    rhythm

  • Hi there! Thanks a lot! I am honored you listen to me! Please keep doing that!

    Kindly,

    Per-Olov

  • I see your video and all I can think is about how much I love Classic Guitar, I don't know if you know the famous cuban classic guitar player Ildefonso Acosta, he was my first teacher, too many years ago, he plays just like you, that's why your video brings that nostalgic but good feeling to me. There have been many years since the last time I studied a classic guitar piece, I'd like to do it again. Beautifoul Video Mr.Kingdren.

    dago

  • I just sit down and listen to this and close my eyes and i am in another dimension. Extraordinary!

    Sebastian

  • Sebastian,

Thank you. I am honored. And happy I could clear your mind and thoughts.. :-)

    Please keep listening to me.

    Kind regards,

    Per-Olov

  • What book did you get this from (if you did) im in college and would like to do this for one of my recitals.

    ANy suggestions books? transcriptions?

  • It's from an Edition by Emilio Pujol. Something like "Hispanic music para guitarra"... or such... I don't have it here...

    Kindly,

    Per

  • Though your tone is flawless as usual (I also like the relaxed tempo), I don't agree with your musical decision to include hammer ons (slurs) in the beginning repeating runs. It places emphasis on the wrong part of the measure, IMO.

This remains, however, the best I've ever heard this on the guitar.

  • Thank you1 I really appreciate your constructive critics! I will certanly consider your suggestion!

    Kindly,

    Per-Olov

  • wow that was amazing, thankyou.

  • Thank YOU for listening!

    Per-Olov

  • Yessss! I agree with everyone who is saying that the slower tempo serves the song well. You are quite the musical musician if you know what I mean - like as opposed to a strictly technical one.

    Best,

    Lucas

  • Thanks. I regard myself more a musician than a guitarist really. :-) So your commetn is very welcome!

    Thanks!

    Kindly,

    Per

  • David Grisman (mandolin player) said that his biggest improvement came when he stopped thinking of himself as a mandolinist and began thinking as a musician. Very profound and true!! You have obviously made that journey!! Great!!

  • Peo,

You are playing with a capo and use this Emilio Pujol transcription. In Pujol's transcription the third string must be detuned to Fis.

Do you apply also this detuning and then applying the capo?

I must confess I have never used a capo, but

are you using the same fingering after applying the capo( As if it were not there)?

Hope you are understanding what I want to say.

    Joe.

  • Hi Joe!

Yes, I do as Pujol suggested. 3=F#. The capo is for transposing it. And I play as if it wasn't there in the fingerings... :)

    Per

  • Peo, I have listened to Julian Bream and David Russell on youtube and others elsewhere and they are masters of the guitar. You are a master of the song! I hardly hear the guitar, I hear the playing of what inspired the writing of this beautiful piece. Thanks.

  • Very nice, but why do you need a capo!

    Charlie :)

  • The best performanc of this piece. I feel this is the perfect tempo for this piece. Lots of people play this a bit faster and I feel the beauty of the melody is lost. Great. I know the G is tuned a step down for this but is the capo a requirement to play it well. Do youknow where I can get the sheet music for this? Thanks

  • Thanks a lot! Appreciated. The capo is for making it in the right key.... and to make it sound more "lute-like"...

This is published by Schott & Co. The arranger is Emilio Pujol in a book called Hispane chithara ars viva

    Per

  • that was REALLY awesome,

wish I could do that. =(

    xox Amanda

  • Dear Amanda! Thank you! But I am sure if you practice you wil play it even better than me... Do you play the guitar at all?

    Kindly,

    Per

  • yes, I play the guitar.. but I suck.. =(

I play it for 3 weeks now or something..

I have a lot of trouble with changing chords.. =/

    xox Amanda

  • Hi Amanda! keep playing! You will get there!! It's worth it! trust me!!

    Good luck!

    Per
