  • Wow, I loves the pictures!

  • God thank you for allowing us to have here voice for a while.

    Amen

  • That is one of my favorite songs; thank you for putting it on youtube. When I was a kid we had a nativity set like the one in the video. I also like the pictures of the the Christ in the cave/opening in the rock face; as that is the way it was. May we never forget His perfect example, teachings, crucifiction, resurrection and plan for salvation for us; He is the King of Glory. Glory to God

  • Glorious.

  • There's never been anyone like Mahalia. Her voice comes from the centre of the womb of the earth.

  • Ohhhhhhhh me, oh my, how we soooo dearly miss Mahalia Jackson's powerful voice. Thank goodness, for recorded music.

    Merry Christmas to all!!!

  • Yes! Amen, Mahalia

Sounds like a woman who has lived that type of life where God was seen in bitter circumstances. This is the voice of a person who has lived for and worshipped who she is singing about

  • i am starting to feel chrismas thx for posting this :)

  • This version was on one of the few Christmas albums we had growing up. This is what the holidays sound like to me. I still have the record, but it was a pleasant surprise to come across the same song while browsing on here

  • As only Mahalia can sing... beautifully reverent.

  • ...awesome, very, missed voice...rip Ms. Halie

  • this is the song we sang at my chorus concert.. but not like this

  • the pictures and song are lovely...

  • we Are interested in using this video at our church to accompany an instrumental piece of our own. is that okay? Is there a chance you could email me a file so we don't have to run it off youtube? Thanks.

  • you can use it , but i am not able to send the file to you right now.

  • So beautiful... thanks for posting this.

  • your welcome

  • Does anyone know what year Mahalia recorded this version of 'What Child Is This?'. This isn't the same version from her 1968 album, 'Christmas with Mahalia'...

  • sorry the cd was a compulation of diffrernt artest. if i findout i will let you know.

  • According to "Just Mahalia, Baby" it was about 1966. It was during those difficult years of illness, marital strife and personal problems. She recorded little during that time but met up with Percy Faith for a reunion and recorded this song. It's beautiful partly because P. Faith inspired her so to sing with a particular passion.

  • There was an album recorded under the Columbia label called MAHALIA & FRIENDS AT CHRISTMAS. Side A has 5 songs from Mahalia (What Child Is This, Silent Night, O Little Town of Bethlehem, Away In A Manger, and another song). Then on Side B, it features songs from other artists; The Caravans, Five Blind Boys, Charles Taylor, Gospel Clefs, and someone else).

  • @BashaaniN

It's from the compilation CD "White Christmas 20 Beatiful Christmas Songs"

with also Bing Crosby, Rosemary Clooney, The Platters, Luis Armstrong. all great artists :)

  • @BashaaniN Actually, this is the version from Christmastime with Mahalia and Friends released on CBS Special Products red label. I grew up with this album and it was passed down from the 60s...

  • VERY good video

  • unbelievable voice sang her whole life to the child Jesus!!

Now that voice reigns in the heavens for ever.

  • Good video.

  • thanks
