There were 4 Watch with Mother videos, 1 and 2 had the same line-up of Flowerpot Men, Andy Pandy, Picture Book, Rag, Tag & Bobtail, then the best of included Camberwick Green and Muffin, and Next Generation had Tales of the riverbank, herbs, mary, mungo & midge, pogles wood and barnaby on it..great music on this ident
Thanks for explaining. Do you remember what BBC Video ident was on the other releases. I remember the Next Generation one had the globe but I've not seen any others
Thinking about it, wasn't there another "Watch With Mother" video which had similar content to this one? I've never seen it but I remember the description on the back going on about "Just when you thought The Woodentops have waved good bye".
Does anybody remember the other "Watch With Mother" video that the BBC released. It had the spinning globe logo from the late 80s and had stuff like "The Herbs" and "Mary Mungo and Midge" on it.
I think it was called "The Next Generation" but I'm not sure.
I think I can remember this one - my mam once hired a Watch With Mother video for my brother and me when I was quite little. The music is quite pleasant to listen to, but the synth one reminds me of watching Fireman Sam at my big cousins' house.
@mubd1234 When I was 4 I used to love Fawlty Towers (still do actually) despite not understanding most of the dialog. The copy we had at the time was the 1980s BBC VHS with the electronic intro and since then I found the electronic jingle really cozy, the 1990s piano one on the other hand startled me.
@Meanmanmartin2007 No, I don't think it is. I think it's from another Watch with Mother video where the cover had a picture of all the characters sitting together and a yellow background, with the slogan "The original black and white classics."
So very charming and warming, a true classic of BBC television, I have this ident on my old Faulty Towers videos! A classic ident to go with the classic shows of the 80s!
That depends which release it was. There were two "usual" versions o9f this ident, with two different tunes. The most famous one (with the snazzy "synthy" theme) was introduced in late 84 methinks.
What you think of the original actually isn't. there was an even earlier BBC Video ident (same animation) with a different tune. Its somewhere on youtube.
Yes, I'm pretty sure this was only used on the Watch With Mother tape. The synth version - sampled I think by the mighty Mordant Music - was used on most (if not all) other BBC Video releases until 1988.
was that particular tune used only with the Watch with mother video? This is the tune i associate with with this one, i got a bit confused when i saw the Synth version.
Why does the logo turn black and white in the middle?

I remember the warning message used to disappear at the end as if it was being deleted.

I bet if they left on the normal music, the kids would piss themselves.
