I can understand how an American finds it entertaining but it is also disturbing to others, Greeks in this case. In this light, Americans disgust me. By the same argument, it would be okay for others to involve U.S. monuments in satirical commercials as well. Ditto to the Burger King Spicy Chicken Crisp - the chicken destroying the temple.

well the thing is, Americans don't see the legacy of the Ancient Greeks as being distinct from them necessarily. the Greeks' culture reaches far beyond Greece. One can say Western Culture in general is founded by the Greeks. It's not disturbing in this context, as the makers of this ad probably consider the entire West (America included) as the successor of the Ancient Greeks' legacy. And this is not a satirical commericial.

That's it! The ANCIENT Greeks. The modern Greeks might descend from the ancient ones, but only partially. The fact that western civilization owes a lot to ancient Greece does not give automatically modern Greece merits for that. It would be like saying that the Italians had conquered all the Mediterranean at the time of the Roman empire.

Great commercials, way to go Anderson! My husband spotted you in Sharp Aquos commercial and then we saw you in Olympic commercial. You've come along way since 2003 Mountaineers season. Kristen (our daughter and your biggest fan back then) saw commercials and said "I told you he was a hottie!" Good luck, we'll be watching commercials from now on!!

If you knew anything about Greek history, you would know that the Parthenon still stands, the Romans copied our architecture, and much of everything today is based on the Hellenic culture. Not to mention that the Chinese basically copied our opening ceremony, just plugged and chugged their own history into it instead of the Greek. Broadcasters even commented on it on TV. The Hellenistic period still exists and will never die.
