I love Jello!!! I wish the media and greed didnt lead to the break up of DK, but Mr. Biafra still gets major points for keepin it real throughout it all. I never wanted a job with a suit n tie my entire fuckin life, but id take this interiewers job in a second...and id do it for free! "Suck a mountain goats ass with cool whip!"
( RIP WesleyWillis...keep whoopin Batmans's Ass in the afterlife,#Headbutts#)
@bigmikeystyle the host is the front man of nation of ulysses and i'm sure all of the people he gets on the show are big fans of his band. i doubt he doesn't know who wesley willis is, also.
What the fuck people who cares if the mans gay. So is Rollins. Does that make these people any less intelligent. This man was trying to get us to WAKE UP 20 years before it became a trend.
'While most other participants in what gets labeled punk these days are willing to touch their ass to their forehead in order to please corporate sponsors'.
Well said! I wonder why Mr. Rotten's name comes to mind when I read the above words.
I never realised Jello was a turd burgler, that man is as camp as a row of tents. His spoken word albums were cool but zozo is right, the boots are pure faggotry
I know who "The Dead Kennedys" were. I remember when they had to break up because of the PMRC witchhunt in 1985-86. I never forgave Al Gore for that even though it was Tipper he still had some involvement. I used "Jello Biafra" in the Youtube search engine because some Jackass named a video "Jello Biafra 1959-2009" which ended up being a rick roll. I thought he had really died.
He doesn't seem very "into" what he's doing. He just sort of lounges about and says whatever comes into his head.
I understand how I wouldn't have the common opinion, though. He's one of those people whom everyone thinks is intelligent, but really coasts along with a minimum of thought without much passion or energy.
@arriterre to get a relative sort of opinion, why not check out one or many of his great and innovative bands . . . Ian's got a great sense of historic responsibility and personal responsibility doin this gig, he does great.
Relaxed and intelligent doesn't seem unorthadox for an interviewer.
I would say that his seemingly "I'm having a conversation and just saying what comes into my mind" kind of thing is unorthadox. I appreciate that approach, but it also doesn't come off like a natural conversation despite it, to me. Perhaps it's his natural reserve of manner. In real life if people are like that it doesn't feel like a natural conversation either, even if it is to them.
I loved the DK's, and Jello is a likeable dude, except when he's being a douche...
But he and this interviewer here are so clueless, that this comes a cross as a trainwreck; as innocuous and vapid as the Oprah show.
Jello's a bright guy, and can tell a story... But Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables and the Frankenchrist trial are his real legacy... He never really seemed to say much in interviews.
w8 i dont think jello is gay is he? hes been married a few times i thought ? >.> . im not saying its bad to be gay but i dident think he was.. idk hes secretive about that lol
It's really ironic Jello mentions the old soviet regime and their muzzling of music in public......Mark Lloyd the diversity "CZAR" (hint hint) is pretty much fixng to attempt to muzzle the airwaves with so called "diversity"
I actually LIKE Ian Svenonius, but many of his Soft Focus interviews are pointless and rambling. It's as if he actually GOES OUT OF HIS WAY to be ill-prepared (if at all) and waste the opportunity he has for intelligent conversation with some of these people. It's almost insulting. A star struck teenager working for the school newspaper could probably do a better job. But as I say, I do like Ian...if only because he's one of the few people on Earth with worse dentition than mine.
ian's the man, end of story. His questions give you a real insight into the musicians creative psyche. I'm not a fan of biafra in fact i think he's a clown, but i've watched every soft focus episode and look forward to the rest of series 3, cheers ian and vice
I agree, I don't like this host at all. He seems to not really care what the interviewees are saying, and is just more interested in making his own points known, then sort of brushes off their replies if they don't fit what he was looking for.
the dead kennedy's drove me freaking nuts, his voice grated on me! it STILL grates on me! but i admire what he did and what he stands for, so i can let that slide.
The interviewer Ian Svenonius is a musician in his own right. He sang in legendary bands Nation of Ulysses, Make*Up and Weird War. Look out for their back catalogues on Dischord Records. I kind of like his laid back style.
the actual interviews at 1:10 for anyone who just wants that with out the bullshit
