this is a better film than private ryan: the stuff at the start of ryan is without parralell, after that it is not a quarter of the richness of this film: Milestone was a far greater director than Spielberg. Rossen wrote this screenplay and was also a much greater direcgor than Spelberg.

This is not a film for people that want a realistic war movie. However there is a good point made, when McWiliams says "that's the whole trouble with a war, you never get to SEE nothin'!" My grandfather who was in World War 2 (Algiers) immediately said "he is exactly right."

I did a paper on this film when I was in college. It has been hailed as an excellent war movie reflecting on the human side of war, as opposed to the killing which is all too often depicted.

someday you will (maybe) understand why "The Red Bad of Courage" is such as great book. It has nothing to do with "war". Nothing. It is set in the Civil War and features battle, but it is not ABOUT war at all. The same thing can be said about "Thin Red Line" and this movie. Do I need to spell it out for you? It is about the human condition, the human mind ad how it responds, its wishes and desires and how they are finally discovered to be illusions to reality. All else feeds your illusion.

the red badge of courage definently had a bunch of battles while this horrible movie is nothing but talk as soon as i think there going to do battle they go back and talk again! then when i think there going to do battle its a minor skirmish like the only thing close to a battle is the attack on the farmhouse but that was a skirmish. movies that have 5 minutes of action suck thats why comedys suck thats why movies like this suck to much talk.
