It`s D.Js playing their doof doof music in nightclubs that`s causing all this violence. At The Tote and other Melbourne live venues there`s fuck all violence.
I find it interesting how Brumby makes out to the media that his vision for Melbourne is a 24/7 cosmopolitan city, yet he seems too want to destroy anything cultural that is distantly Melbourne (music, murals in the laneways etc.). This idea he has in his head of a "European city" is not going to happen. For one thing European cities don't have their public transport cut off at midnight on weekends and cause people to drink drive or wonder the streets like drunk zombies.
Well said. These ridiculous laws also effect country pubs who now have to pay, not only security, but extra liquor licence fees. Makes it hard to stay afloat, so they don't hire bands, or stay open late. the local footy / cricket clubs and small isolated communities are losing their community hub! Thanks SLAM for highlighting the effect on live music, we also need to remember our mates in the bush who are also losing out.
a love supreme. Excellent post- i couldn't hear absolutely everything they were saying so its good to listen back. Thanks for sharing and go out and see live music whenever you can everybody!
He's running for office? What makes him a liberal? People who enjoy live music are all liberals? Damn, I need to go back to school, because I missed the boat on that one!
@crazypumkins assuming you're from the US, the Liberal Party are conservatives in the Australian political system, go figure why they're called the Liberals! They're the people in suits with signs saying "Brumby hates live music" who are in opposition to Victoria's Labor government.
Go Rick, you said it so well, we'll be where you are! Cheers John and Lisa

Well said, the public transport issue has more to answer for than the band entertaining the punters

No problem. It's a shame my camera ran out of memory so I couldn't film the whole speech (especially The Ghost's). Cheers.
