Bonnie Raitt has done a few covers of Chris songs thats how I came to find out about Chris, he is simply truly amazing, seen him three times now in the uk, he just gets better with age.
The lyric line of "Look Down The Road" that made me want to learn it, was "I dont want a woman who stays out all night long..I don't want a woman who don't know right from wrong".. when I sung it, I changed the gender line since I'm a female. Boy, does that line wring true for many women who've been duped by the Wrong Man!!!
Lyrics to "Look Down The Road" by Smither, began with "Look down the road, as far as I could see, baby...as far as I could see .. No, I couldn't see anything that looked like mine, to me" ..I wish someone would upload that song of him performing it, up here. It's beautiful.
The first tune I learned of Chris Smither's was "Look Down The Road", when I was about age 20. I think Bonnie Raitt interpreted/performed songs of his. I recognized him as an excellent song writer, back then. I wish he or someone would upload, for YouTube, a clip of him performing "Look Down The Road"
I have seen Chris Smither perform many times; he just shows up with his guitar, and his feet for a percussion section, and I have never seen him give a performance that was less than excellent. This is a lovely and moving song.
great song... john martyn like... BUT why take such a great song and guitarist and run his guitar through a cheap pickup system . the guitar sounds like plastic
As far as I'm concerned Chris still "Has It All"....One of the best there is. You have to see him in person in a small venue to really appreciate his unique talents and charm>
Hey guys, is there anywhere on the web t now to find a tab for Cave Man??? Or at least can someone tell me what tuning it's in. I could swear it's not standard, but of course I'm not certain. Chris (Smither): if you happen to find this thread, would you please consider showing us how you play it? I'd perform it once in my hands and as it is I tell everyone to buy your music.
Chris has released two songbooks with tabs and lyrics, songbook II has the tab for Caveman, he also has done some instruction videos, go to his site to find out more.
Marcus, its in standard tuning capo 3rd... not too difficult really, just start in the second position E major and follow the pentatonic scale from there... First position A major with the hammer-on to the D from there... (the tapping isn't so easy to describe... :))
yeah even after a 1000 listens it still amazes me, such a good song. He is touring around the US at the moment, if you get a chance you should see him.
Yeah Must is the word, i'm in the UK, i missed him last year :( Hopefully he comes back this year, I've even considered going to the US just 2 see him live!
If someone complains they will take it down but the sound quality is not as good as the CD and you can't download on the youtube actual site, its only one tune, there are some places where you can download whole music collections in CD quality!
if someone did complain my account could be closed but i think its good it might mean that someone buys an album or goes to a live show after seeing this :)
Why wait until you're older? Do it now ... this is a fantastic recording. I've cracked the first part of the stereo issue ... send me some details about your PC, operating system and soundcard. I've got some useful information for you now.
The sound quality still isn't as good as I would wish ... however I cannot ovrcome some of the problems caused by You Tube compression methods.
Yeah because i can play kinda good with a pick when i come to play finger picking its frustrating and i end up with the pick in hand, more fun no work ( i know thats bad ) i forgot whats its like to learn from the beginning, its the hardest bit. I will learn at least 1 finger style piece before the end of the year. take care my friend
My internal mail is jammed up at the mo ... I posted my video to 300 people and You Tube can't handle the pressure. They most probably think that I am a spammer!
I'm in the middle of producing a comprehensive circular with all the info you're after. Bear with me, it all takes time.
Are you a student? Or do you work - I live on me Jack Jones and if you live close enough we could achieve more if you made a visit. I can't travel due to mobility problems. Catch you later, Michael.

The more Chris the better, but how is it that Youtube gets away with hosting copyrighted material like this?
