  • its now 2772

  • Father Barron, Please include the Philippines in your showcase of The Catholicism project, and how our country became a beacon of faith in Asia. I congratulate you for this project. God bless you.

  • He needs more mystical theologically profound gregorian chant in english and less secular boring rock music. Modernism is part of the weakness of the Church.

  • Two unintentionally funny parts: 1) the nearly empty church comprised of mostly elderly women watching Fr. Barron speak and 2) the claim that he reaches millions of people juxtaposed with a picture of his youtube account showing that he has 45 subscribers. The video IS confused and I am not sure how talking about famous European artifacts associated with Catholicism are supposed to generate conversions to the Church. I think that literally preaching the Gospel is still the only way to do it.

  • @EvodiusTheophile

Fr. Barron has 2770 subscribers, which is pretty good. This page was just a demo and around 3000 people have viewed it.

If the presence of elderly women at a church meeting disturbs you, I think you should avoid that in a video.

  • @jbpo 2770 is really low considering the intentions of the ministry itself, and it's claim to have reached "millions of people". But it's not that I don't want it to grow, I just thought the juxtaposition was laugh-out-loud funny because of the irony. I have nothing against elderly Catholic women, they are after all the majority of the remaining faithful in the developed world.

  • @EvodiusTheophile

2770 is very good for a Catholic Evangelical ministry. Now its 2771 and it will be more tomorrow.

"I have nothing against elderly Catholic women, they are after all the majority of the remaining faithful in the developed world."

I guess the countless Catholic parishes that I have attended Mass at in the United States filled with people of all ages was just an anomaly. Last time I checked, the U.S. is considered a "developed" country.

  • @CA925@CA925 There are countless Catholic parishes, all over of the nation, with all sorts of people who do not believe in the truth of the Eucharist, that Catholicism is the one true faith, that contraception is gravely immoral, that the pope ought to be respected and obeyed, etc. My point is, your anecdotal experience of "lots of different people at Mass" doesn't mean much when the VAST majority of people who attend Mass don't really have a good understanding of why they do so. Or indeed care.

  • @EvodiusTheophile.... Regarding YouTube, the video says, "find him on YouTube, where his video comentaries draw thousands of veiwers on the web" That's a true statment. For example, this video has nearly 4,000 views, the "Catholicism Project Trailer" has over 41,000 views, and his video, "Why do we believe in God," has over 44,000 views. Regarding "the claim that he reaches millions" the video says, "his DVDs are broadcast on the Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN) to 44 million veiwers."

  • @EvodiusTheophile

Fr. Barron is on Relevant Radio which is in over 30 metro markets. I have little doubt that he has reached over a million people. What makes you think he never talks about the Gospel. You clearly didn't listen to him too closely.

  • I really like Fr. Baron

  • right exactly right....

we need to do that Amen

  • Lets see Bishop Sheen was a pioneer on TV, various Catholics got radio broadcasting jumpstarted, the Guttenberg Bible was certainly a Christian evangelical text, boats full of missionaries went around the world in the 1500's. Effective Evangelism is pretty much tied to technology.

Underuse of technology seems to be major problem YA, not overuse.

  • The question is what is one trying to accomplish? If as the video states that younger Catholics are not properly catechised is video the way to do this? There is a plethora of videos on the market. What we don't have are priests and knowledgeable laypeople doing the real work of correcting this lack of formation at the parish level. But perhaps the goal of the video is something else...

  • How else could St. Paul communicate during his travels and imprisonment? This is not a good comparison.

  • But that's my point: he used the technology available to him in order to communicate at a distance. That's what television, radio, DVD's, etc. are today. I agree that the ultimate purpose is to bring people back to the Mass and the community, but heck, we have to start somewhere!

  • This video jumps back and forth in discussing two targets (the unchurched and under catechised Catholics). Perhaps this is where we disagree. I think two different approaches are needed for these groups and regardless the road leads back to the parish which is the hub in the wheel. I am waiting for someone to have the good sense to design a program for adult Catholics who have completed the sacraments, but who need catecheses.

  • So design that program yourself. What are you waiting for? Fr. Barron has his mission, and it is responding to some of the deepst cultural challenges the Church is now facing. He is about effective, concrete work. You are merely speculating about what you think others should do. At the end of the day, it is likely Fr. Barron will be able to say he did the work of evangelization. Wiil you be able to say the same thing?

  • Perhaps I already have put together such a program and know where of I speak... Since this is a section to comment on a posted video, it is appropriate to respond, speculate, whatever. This is not a place for personal criticism as you have done.

  • If we look to the early Church, first there were disciples whom God strengthened thru the Holy Spirit. Then, they went out and evangelized. The same is needed now. Strengthen those who are already in the pews thru person-to-person programs not technology and then send them forth to spread the Word. Overuse of technology has created a culture that has separated us from others, let's not reenforce this as part of our faith outreach. Honestly, I don't care what the protestants do...

  • I understand your concern, but I think it's exaggerated. I can't help but think that Paul, were he around today, would use all of the technology available to him. In fact, he used the high-tech of his time (letter writing) to evangelize at a distance, sometimes reaching out to people he had never met, as in the letter to the Romans. So I think that we'd be failing to cooperate with the Spirit if we didn't use what we can to spread the Word.

  • How else could St. Paul communicate with the communities that he already established during his travels and imprisonment? But, how did he start his ministry? In Damascus and in his own back yard (Tarsus). What was his primary mode of outreach/teaching? He travelled and spoke in synagogues. He planted seeds and continued to nurture these seedlings. This is not a good comparison.
