  • A LOT OF BLDNG INSPECTORS REQUIRE HANGER NAILS... OTHER THAN THAT ,GOOD JOB

  • How did you attach the 4x4's to the doubled up 2x beam, and did you secure them to the footing?

  • After watching Home Depot's how to video I was not sure I wanted to mess with this idea of building a deck! Thanks for making it understandable. The deck I am building is a simple 1 layer 18' by 13' deck 18" off the ground to the door, so it won't be high off the ground at all. Deck plans calls for 2 beams plus the ledger of course.

  • very good job!

  • tell the kid to get out of the way,, he's blocking the video

  • i think you'd be a good boss to work for....... i love it how people always pick the shit out of all vids, they can always upload one themselves

  • @wallnuts22 You said it. Thank you.

  • Hey, nice video man. Thumbs up.

  • how much in materials did it cost you?

  • I bet 5 bucks he never put the hangers on that deck, otherwise why did he shoot 4 nails "just to hold it" untile he put the hangers on. Oh and you need to teach your helper how to check the crown so you dont have to stop to do it .

  • @Hollrobb I'm 25 years in this industry and do the same thing. You tack the joists in first because they vary in height and you want the top of the joist to be flush with the ledger. Afterwards you let the helper put the hangers on.

  • @corpsegrinderz ,I agree.

  • we usually sandwich an osb board in between the 2x10s

  • i crown my joists other wise u get a hump in your floor

  • your like the only guy who still crowns his joists! kudos to U!

  • LOL Thank you

  • the beam is "just sitting" on the 4x's? i would use the 10d's on the hanger to joist but 16s hanger to ledger

  • Wow..after all these deck video ive been watching , your's is about the most straight forward. Thanks

  • Now you made my day, all you guys do. Thank you very much..

  • ohmen this guy it s good ohmen

  • Great Job, I noticed you were crowning your TGI's

or Joist, that was the silent floor material? anyway crowning is a true sign of a professional, Quality before Quantity

  • One thing I add on runs 12 ft or more out are metal joist brace straps (or wooden braces made of 1x3)to prevent twisting of the joists - a lot more solid and 5 yrs down the road the deck is as level as the house floor inside. I also strap the joists to the beam on each end and every 8 ft of run when the deck is in an area exposed to high winds like the south and west sides. People say no way it will go anywhere but I've seen roofs with 2 layers of shingles come up in storms and a deck can too.

  • some like to do it that way. But not all the floor joist are the same size. Meaing they can change as much as 1/2 , some wet some dry. The most important part is that you keep the tops very even with the top of the ledger to where the decking will lay nice and flat on. It makes installing the joist easier to install the hangers first and could be much more work installing the decking afterwards.

  • i thought hangers went on first.

  • That's because this is what I do for a living, LOL. Yes thanks for the advice, I will have to make a new deck video now that I became better on the camera. Thanks again.. Dominick

  • how is it, some guy with a camera can make a better video in 6 minutes than homedepot can in 20?

lol, although the other was informative, it was pretty much geared to making me spend money. this vid gave me a good visual idea of what i was headed for, as well as building the kind deck i was thinking about.

    overall great video.

    advice:

dont be afraid to show us a fast forwarded version of you working on stuff ( after real time of course. Time lapse your projects, with a counter...even better.
