About her upper register - I'm not sure, but I'd bet a fair amount of money on that she was ill, she sounds as if a singer having a cold. And I don't know the show and the dircetors, but would they choose a song to compare the two singers, if it was too high to one of the singers? She had to stay down for the last note...
Well, Linda was much better... I've never seen her or Linda befor, but have to say the Circusfreak is totally right...What has she done to this wonderfull song????
She's horrible!!!!! The last note is cruel to every music-loving ear!
I must hear Linda again to forget this horrible version!!!!
Oh dear me! Having heard various versions of this song by various actresses I still can't find anyone better than Sara Ramirez! Hannah was good (her high notes were amazing), Linda (from this show) was powerful but not particularly funny (Sara's version is still the funniest and most polished). This lady - who apparently won - wasn't funny (she was just plain scary) and went for the lowest note I've ever heard in this song at the end. Vocal problems or not I still don't see how she won it...
You're missing the irony - I wasn't scared by her performance, I thought it was a terrible performance. She was flat in parts - spoke a lot of the lines, didn't have comic timing, her facial expressions were ludicrous and to top it all off she had no stage presence (my attention kept wandering). Plus, as I've mentioned before, the low note at the end outlines that her voice wasn't good enough to cope with the high note at the end.
Obviously she's having some vocal problems here, but the acting is hilarious! Especially the "Out searching for a bush -- Well, they can kiss my TUSH!"
She sure came at this song from the right angle - it's also my first time hearing the lyrics without the "Tony Awards" line, and the replacement (because Sara Ramirez did win a Tony for the part, making the line obsolete) is still pretty funny and doesn't reference American music awards at all, so it can be used worldwide (and keeping Britney Spears in is just hilarious - she could never manage this song so well).
I think that she is very very very talented. This part is very very difficult (ofcourse most Spamalot songs are very difficult) We cannot compare her with Sara Ramirez or Hannah Waddingham. She is not an actress but she has the touch! She has an absolutely fantastic, absolutely great voice, and performs with her own style! She can do a lot of things! (Ahhh and in Tick Tock at the Melodifestivalen she was a STAR!)
okay how under edcucated are you sorry...but is she sinign abba???? no she is singin a song from Spamallot and, in sweden peopel speak english like in every other eu land!
let's enlighten you for a minute. the rumor of ABBA was that they didn't understand the lyrics they were singing. my point is that she is singing a song that is a pretty funny song and the crowd doesn't react at all. which is my point of the ABBA reference. good god people, just because someone posts a video of someone doesn't mean it's fucking gold and can't be criticized. everything isn't fucking golden.
it doesent say its gold, but to say its abba is yust crazy, and well we are in the year 2000 now and we understand english here extremely well ysut ebacuse the public react so much doesent mean they dont understand, it means that the "brittish humor" thats in this song aint so amuzing for everyone
i'm not from that country. also, it's the show's producer's fault for doing that. it's waaaaaay distracting. it's like McCain walking around in the background during Obama's rebuttals in the debates last year. good god people are you that fucking dense?
Doesn't mean she isn't frequently off-key and overdoing it... look for Sara Ramirez if you want to see that you can act great and sing great at the same time.
Circusfreak you are proffessional then you listen with a proffesional reference with that knowledge you judge. I dont judge I only recieve the message she sent with passion. And if you listen to the other "lady of the lake" from other stages Nina beats them, thats for sure.
I listened to Nina 2 weeks ago. She was amazing. I´m not an expert but i ´ve made some TV-productions some years ago and I can say i rather have an amatuer singing good with passion and charisma then a proffessional opera snger singing perfect, perfect can be boring (my ex-gf would not agree with me...)
I was lucky enough to see her, she was fantastic. What I've seen of the other women cast in this role is that they focus on singing very well - which they do, don't get me wrong. But Nina seemed to not worry about this, as if she didn't have to prove she could sing, and focused on bringing the 'unbearable diva' out in the role - she captured it so well. Fantastic.

I've heard clips of her in Spamalot... and she still doesn't rise to the challenge, shes just not trained enough and doesn't have the control. I fear she will do damage to her voice especially on some of the notes in 'find your grail' which were just painful to listen to.
It´s remarkable then that she has signed for playing the part even longer (they would never have signed her for a longer period if she had been bad)..and that she got so good critics.
The thing here must be that your ear for music isn´t that good.
Oh yes my 'ear' for music isn't that good! Considering I've sung professinally with Opera Companies and have studied musical theory and singing half of my life... no I don't know anything
yeah yeah.. and the people that runs spamalot are so wrong by signing Nina for a longer period. They are amateurs. They should listen to you that know better *LOL*
How about you don't just judge her on low quality audio clips, and go and see her in the show. She's bloody fantastic as the Lady of the Lake. Get informed before you judge.
@Circusfreak i have to say i agree with you, she is probably not trained, she definitely has no control over her voice, especially her upper register and compensates by shouting... nice, quick and easy way to screw your voice over, especially with a role as demanding as the lady of the lake... i just dont see the her appeal...

I'm sorry I'll never understand how SHE was chosen, shes got a mediocre voice at best, horrible higher register, poor control.... my point proven by the end note of the song, which she totally fucks up by taking it down a tone... Bring back Hannah Waddingham!
This was her first time singing any song from the musical itself. She has been playing the role for what 8 weeks? I saw her in spamalot a few weeks ago and she was AWESOME. No problem with hitting any high notes. Perhaps you should watch more clips and you will she she has got no problem with hitting any notes at all. I´m quite sure that there´s a lot that you don´t understand. Nina is great and was totally outstanding in the competition "west end star" She´s got IT.
@Circusfreak Personally I feel that you are just influensed by how you feel is "should" be, as you've heard other verisons. Of course she has to take tones down if she can't sing the highest notes, but that doesn't make a song worse. It's simply that you are used to other versions that you don't like her, that doesn't make her bad.
it hurt to hear that scratching sound!

Umm... Actually, I prefer her acting to Linda's.

Her character is supposed to be a piss-take of the overused leading lady that all too often overacts and is far too dramatic.
