that caused the indefinate hiatus of blink-182. just after the indefinate hiatus' start, tom got back with david kennedy and the two formed AVA (angels and airwaves). despite being a diffeerent band, AVA is considered the brother of Box Car Racer and this idea was strengthened when AVA released their 3rd album "love" which included "letters to god part II", which is considered a sequel to "letters to god" by Box Car Racer. the two song sound completely different but the titles say differently.

david kennedy played guitar and did backup vocals, tom played bass and sung, and travis played drums (while touring, they got a bassist). Mark probably didnt feel too happy about this but he still was a guest vocalist in "elevator". box car racer had a 2001 tour scheduled but the 9/11 attacks messed that up. the tour was post poned for 2002 but was cancelled due to tom's back pains. after that, box car racer came to an end and blink-182 got back to work. all this was one factor that (more)
