  • There is something I love about printed, traditional books; The slightly yellowed pages, the thin, cool paper, even just turning a page in a book is a relaxing thing. I can't stand reading books onscreen; It's so artificial and impersonal. I'm not going to curl up with my monitor in my robe by a fire on a rainy day, thank you very much. The entire experience of reading a book, and flipping the last page is something I can't imagine denying the future youth. That's terrible.

  • I agree with your panel that with the evolution of books and the explosion of information on the internet teacher-librarians are even more vital to schooling. Too many students just cut/paste and reading with critical skills is increasingly needed but also ignored. Reading of text is absolutely essential to a child's future prospects. More than ever our culture needs schools with information savvy teachers and advocates of reading.
