  • this is the best music in the world.my alltime favorite album!!

  • This is the first Marillion song that I ever heard. It was on the radio--the full-length version--and I was in Edinburgh, Scotland. This one blew me away.

  • Great song with Mark Wilkinson's fantastic cover!!

  • Saw this video first in 1984...blew me up....

  • 7 children were be here

  • wonder if the sensational alex harvey was an influence

  • How did Fish fail his audition for James Bond after this? "I'll have 20 million album sales - prog, but not unbearable".

  • Superb, fugazi brilliant album.. fish is the man.

  • c nul

  • @Ulyne nul your ass

  • Sweet! Never seen this video before.

  • Life even better !! Seen him singin it in Haarlem last year, cant wait to go to his gig again !!

  • the intro... Fish steppin in. the band picks it up a song is born like a magpie in a rainbow!

  • Fish..... what a voice .. and was a fantastic Group..

  • From Genesis to Marillion: pure Prog sound! :-)

  • Hashassin... Love it.

  • Well... thanks for helping me revive a long-lost little memory of my distant musical past. Remember playing this with some friends in about 1986 or something. What a weird little song, especially lyrically!

  • You were a sentimental mercenary in a free-fire zone,

    Parading a Hollywood conscience;

You were a fashionable objector with a uniform fetish,

Pavlovian slaver at the cash till ring of success.

  • Sao e serao sempre os maiores!!!A minha banda preferida you are the best

  • ...my friend!

  • You dont get many song writers writing about fashionable objectors with uniform fetishes and tying fugi knots these days. Fish is a ledge.

  • awsome song! i was 13 when this album came out.

my dad had this album before it was released.

my mates saw it on top of the pops many mths later and thought it was crap.

they not heard the full length version tho`.

  • superb...

  • what do they mean fish hasn't got the greatest voice ? he is marillion!!

  • Where is the original...? Is fantastic!

  • The second this song came out back in the eighties I knew this band were awesome.

  • i really like marillion and genesis, but i like genesis only with phil collins and marillion only with fish.

  • The edit removes my favourite part...The long, chanting buildup and guitar riffing.

A bit of a cheesy video, but the awesomeness of the song overshadows its flaws.

  • The short version has a lot of advantages, but I miss the middle part. Maybe it got cut because of the "rape your ears" line?

  • awesome, never gets old

  • sin Profesor Fish ya no es lomismo ...i,m ASSASSINGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG my frend

  • Nice try at bridging the gap between the Collins voice an the Gabriel one...love all 3

  • i dont like it i LOVE it. one of their best.

  • FUGAZI \m/

  • Das waren noch Zeiten , Hammageiles Lied !!!

  • This is beyond brilliant!

  • gay...

  • @PersonX15 Oh well at least if this song is "gay" then you have something in-common with it. You faggot this song kicks ass and you proved you don't know what real music is... Go listen to some Justin Bieber. queer.

  • @PersonX15 Really??? Gay is Erasure, Pet Shop Boys, Village People, Elton John Ricky Martin, and many more!

  • manque le debut et il est coupé vers la fin c est une honte

  • great song............always seemed to be compared to Genesis in the early days. Did that limit their success??

One of my favs of the 80's

  • well fish was/is a huge Peter Gabriel genesis fan

  • Well I'd fuck the woman in the vid!

  • "...You were a fashionable objector with a uniform fetish"!! Priceless.

  • the vid is hilarious!

  • This was the 1st single i ever bought still awesome!!!!!!

  • i just discovered this song the other day while watching the bdo world darts championship, its martin atkins walk out theme

  • assasing is classic song , the only comparison with abacab is they both have a letter A . only people who strrugle to name five bands could say an artist that survived for 25 years and produced 13 albums imatates phil collins

  • love the Capri man..hahahah

  • martin atkins!

  • Fish is wearing a female blouse

  • fucking A great

  • too bad they did not add the intro to the piece in this vid...

  • childhood and teenager memories, this one reflects the highes and the hopes.

  • I have had this cd since around 1990 or so. Just listened to it this past week. Good stuff, really took me back. Unique voice & sound.

  • An absolutely fantastically cool song...!

  • GEIL !!!

  • This is a cold, calculated masterpiece my friend......

  • J'ai jamais compris votre engouenent, ce groupe copie les autres, ma et sans , aucune originalité....c'est plate , point a la ligne.

  • they were accused of copying the Genesis sound, but Assassing came out about in 1985, and the sound was original in 1985

  • I love "Assassing" but I could see how this shorter, singles version might remind someone of "Abacab," with the alternating guitar/keys thing in the verses. And i think the full intro would have been great to add to the video... though it is about three minutes long.

  • Sir Fish... forever.

  • love marillion

  • It is my dream!

  • this was the song that introduced me to Marillion in 1984 when I only liked metal.

This is an EPIC, GODLIKE track from heaven!

  • Same with me. I'd always dismissed them until my Marillion-mad girlfriend played this and then I was hooked!

  • Oh, dear. This is a big plate of cheese.

  • Yes...but it's an amazing plate of cheese!

  • indeed it is...my friend

  • Dear klapouchy2008, If you check the album Fugazi, you'll see that the song is indeed called 'Assassing' with a 'g'

  • F...ck, apparently, you're right...!

  • Gee, all these years, I thought it was 'Asassin'...

  • @klapouchy2008 no problem, mate. fish probably thinks assassin is spelt with a 'g', so you can blame him, heh (cue irate replies from fish-lovers...)

  • No idea why you guys call this song 'Assassing'. The name and title is "Assassin". Something like "assassing" doesn't even exist...

  • Assassing is a play on words. and makes perfect song if you listen to the lyrics. :P

  • Never get bored of this song or any Marillion songs.

  • Marillion were the soundtrack to my youth.Songs like Garden Party,[my favourite]Assassing,Punch and Judy and Freaks still sound great today.

  • timeless

  • this song reminds me to my old friends Christine and Malthias from Germany' i got this song from her when we were in Damascus in 1984 ..... Christine Hoserohe and Malthias .....Do u know ..i still remember u both and miss u 2 so much... from ...jussuf Thailand....

  • wow-this is true brilliance- a video version of a song this brilliant just increases the need to have it on the swcreenXD

  • my dad used to play fugazi it when ı was a kiddie. it's a 100% masterpiece.

  • utter bliss!!! i love this track.just came across it by accident.now sending it to all my mates.met them once in a bar in aberdeen scotland.home of palas.(check them out)just before the release of he knows you know .single.i feel ancient now!!!!!a humble bunch of blokes on the verge of success.

  • FUGAZi = Masterpiece

I prefer the album version, of Assassing, but this was still awesome.

Anybody else surprised by how young FISH looked in this clip??

  • this is the album version, albeit an edited one

  • What I actually meant was the album version one, in full length =P

But yeah, it is an edited album version, much better worded.

  • brutally excelent good song

  • I...Love...Marillion... been listenin to them since i was a kid, my pa always put the albums on. music like this was the soundtrack to my childhood!

  • Great Marillion has many fans from BUlgaria. We are waiting for their concert it is soon!

  • Too bad the original song is twice as long... I like the CD version better, but this clip is very nice!!

  • ahh this takes me back .never saw marillion live but i have seen fish live about 10 times including 1 sauna gig at the cavern club in liverpool

  • Fantastic!

  • This has to played loud , great song from a great album

  • Marillion = Fish nobody else!

  • Fish is ace.....

Got the Early stages Album for Xmas, and listened to this tune on it over and over.

Sorry to hear about his health issues :(

Assasing is an ace song :D

  • Oooo a Fish Supper !

  • Hoping to help those like SEPTAT, but I guess I may be stating the obvious to fans, but one of the best ways to understand Fish's approach to lyrics is on Clutching at Straws. not the best album, but to me the most clear imagery in the lyrics.

  • FIRST HEARD THIS SONG ON THE HEADBANGERS CD

COMPILATION IN THE 80s, STILL SOUNDS FRESH

    AFTER ALL THESE YEARS!

  • fucking awesome

  • ??? - I was saying how good the lyrics were??

  • Lol - I'm sorry my mistake!

  • Here's an example:

"Listen as the syllables of slaughter cat with calm precision

Patterned frosty phrases rape your ears and sow the ice incision"

  • 'cut' not 'cat' if you don't like the lyrics I'm sure you'll find the cheeky girls "touch my bum" easier to handle - just think about it

  • Could I trouble you for your list then, please?

It seems unfair to publicly rate the cumulative work of five musicians 'most crappy' using a 'list' and then not publish that list for comparison and discussion.

  • Well, I can tell you the top best few of the list :D it is not sorted by order. A-ha Abba Bee Gees Daft Punk Guns & Roses Limahl Scorpions Queen etc... I don't expect you to like my list, but it's not too long, about 30 bands/singers/djs/composers
  • If you read the lyrics surely you sense a hint of alliteration and onomatopoeia?

Mind you, if you think the lyrics are worse than bad, there's no saving you.

  • well, after reading the lyrics, it makes more sence, but what the words sound like in the song is like the singer is high...

Not worse then bad but not what I call awesome

  • That's exactly the effect it's supposed to have - a business "assasin" who's high on picking his "victims". The lyrics are worthy of analysis of students of the English language. 10/10, awsome - "my friend"

  • Sorry, unfortunately I never been to a English school... Thats worthless to try to make me feel stupid because of that.

I prefer fantasy tales then bizarre stuff, so there was my opinion about it, that's all.

    I'm not your friend, buddy!

  • Why is that you come across as a pompous prick?

It's like you're talking over wine and fucking cheese. It's a great song, and the lyrics ARE great, but it's not a fucking English lesson.

  • I can't tolerate the post-Fish Marillion, it just isn't the same. Go Fish!!!!

  • I have no fuckin' idea what he is singing about but the tune rawks!

  • bellissima canzone, bellissima voce.

    grande fish

  • fugazi and jesters tear were dere best albums

  • Crap video, but wonderful song, thanks for adding it x

  • ditto ;)

  • fugazy

  • Hard to believe this song was a SINGLE. So unlike any song you'd normally hear on the radio even in 83.

  • That was the 80'! The decade of real bad taste and kitsh and Samanta Fox and so on... but music was still great for most of all i think.

  • I love their music, but can't stand the videos. They're just embarrassing.

  • "Ooh - here's a new video effects thing. Let's use all of it's features in a video because we can"!

I think I saw the video effects unit demonstrated on "Swap Shop"!

  • un clasico q hoy no se repite ni se parece en nada y es original.

    Demian

  • watch?v=DKKGzntUc0w watch this ! :) :)

  • I know it is an old argument, but for me Marillion died the day Fish left.

Just teh same as Queen aint Queen without Freddie

  • IN some way's they are better with Hogarth - but the Fish days were great! (Prefer his lyrics in fact)

  • I saw Marillion at the SECC round about '84 I think, I was 14 and it was the year before they released Misplaced Childhood. The SECC was'nt that old then, still love their older music, "within the voice!!!"

  • groupe et surtout chanteur impressionnant que j'ai eu la chance de voir en concrt

  • love this group , was introduced to them back in the 80's by a great friend, love them then as i do now, thanks rosco from st austell for gettin me into such a fantastic singer!!

  • my friend! i love these guys

  • How the hell this band never made it as big as U2, I'll never know. They piss all over those tired Irish jokes...

  • FISH FOR EVER! Such a great man and singer, he is unique! better than the squeaky toad.

  • A great song

  • Great song. Great Keyboards. Fish in his younger days! Great times!

  • Saw this on tour about '84, I was 16/17. Awesome music from a golden age of my youth.

  • f*ing genius! Fish and Marillion made some of the best music out there!

  • I like the guitar solo...

  • I"ts amazing!!

  • The young Fish!

  • I love this song
