It's because of a relative muscle imbalance between the adductors and glutes/external hip rotators (so muscle weakness, which becomes obvious with maximal lifts, but not so much with lighter weights). This is why in squatting and sumo deadlifting you're taught to "spread the floor" / push out with your knees. It gets more glue activation. Try squatting with a mini band or light band doubled up and wrapped around the knees. Push out against it.
boricuafrican, I usually can do 50 pounds or so more with a trap bar, over a straight bar. Trap bar is definately a bit easier as you can get more legs/glutes into the lift.
Really? I started using the trap bar instead of the olympic bar because I'm a hockey player and I wanted to focus more on strengthening my posterior chain. But I always thought people could lift a slight bit more weight with the trap bar than a regular straight bar. With the trap bar, I can deadlift 415 for a single, but with a straight bar, I can't break 400. I guess it just depends on the person.
wow ur an idiot, thats totally untrue. deadlifts isolate the lower back more, while when you have the trap bar, u are able to use your legs. ur such a troll.
O my gosh! your all stupid and right! All 3 comments above me are saying the same thing which is right but they for some reason are arguing with each other! what is going on!? read it carefully and find out.
Joe, have you considered investing in the mega shrug bar. It has a 1000 lb capicity I think, I think your boys need it and would make loading much easier.
Wow that is good, I only can do 450 on a trap bar

i noticed his knees came in alot, is that a muscle weakness issues, something that happens with trap bar, or is it just cause thats alot of weight ?

again no advantage unless you have poor form in the deadlift with a straight bar

i wonder how much a trap bar lifter could lift with a straight bar, i've never used a trap bar, but it seems easier to use.
