Mark!! brilliant. Have you thought of writing a childrens book. your just amazing and i love your readings. We love your voice and your BIG heart. "We means Us"
Hi MoM. Thank you for your generous endorsement! I have toyed with the idea of writing a book for children, have an unfinished poem in mind for it, that I think would be great to illustrate. Perhaps sometime it will be done. Thanks again for all, Mark.
All part of the mix! This is one from a while ago that still resonates for me, the issues I feel are no less relevant today than they were when I wrote the poem. If anything, the situation becomes ever more pressing. There are lessons to be learned! Thanks for listening again Kean, I appreciate what you have to say. Cheers for now, Mark.
I do find it hard to stop myself rhyming in my poetry! This was a stab at expressing something of a world view, there are elements I am satisfied with - I like the last couple of stanzas, for instance, almost a song in itself - certainly elsewhere I think there is room for more concision! Thanks anyway, It's always good to hear your views.
Ha, I'm going to be completely honest & say that I was glad to hear this was an older poem of yours & not something you'd written recently, because it doesn't come across as a progression from your recent work. That said, it's good to put some of your older work out there just for others to see where you have evolved from, & in that sense, I can say I enjoyed this (as I too have a couple of idealistic/didactic pieces buried in my 'juvenilia folder') Great visual too btw. Thanks for sharing :)
Ha! I always value the views of an honest critic! I try to mix new with old on my channel here, being without the opportunity to post spoken word poetry until recently. Some of my favourite poems are from earlier days, for their simplicity. I guess I would write this piece differently now, but I stand by what I have said. I feel the message, the theme, is as relevant today as it was a decade ago: that we look at how we live our lives, realize we have choices to make. The future is our destiny!
this was entertaining and thought provoking Mark. well done my friend. I love this poem maybe more than I have loved any other that you have done and I don't quite know why. it just made me feel good.
you should get a job reading audio books and poems. you have a great speaking voice. I can listen to you recite for hours.
Great to think that simply sharing my words can have such positive effect, thank you Paul. I wouldn't know where to start to get the job you describe - perhaps here is as good a place as any! Cheers for now, Mark.
Thanks Charlotte. I have admitted it before, but I struggle to memorize some of my longer poems... that's where the visuals come into their own, to disguise my inadequacies! It can be satisfying in its own right though, a chance to develop other 'skills'. This time it gave me an opportunity to showcase one of my favourite photos, and I'm really pleased with some of the colour effects I achieved. I like to think too that one image, constantly changing, emphasizes the message of the poem.
Full of sensitivity and humility. You are a guiding light for us all, Mark, we should all come back to this one when we need a reminder of how fortunate we are and how poor others are.
Thanks clay - I hope it doesn't come across too preachy! It's years now since I wrote this piece, the issues still sound current, so I hope it has some value today. Cheers for now, Mark.
Hey Piero, thank you. I've always liked this photo of palm trees (taken on holiday in Gran Canaria), it was satisfying fun to play around with it and use it here. Cheers!

Very nice. I like how you manipulate the image.

Simple shifts of hue and saturation, basic Canon software, but I love some of the colour combinations, the abstraction. Thanks James.

Such seeming ease in such complexity of rhyme and reason.
