kids, if you practice and learn the right way to hold a pick, you will eventually stop dropping picks, and picks will stop turning. you dont need special grip-textured picks. you can use regular tortoise shell Fender picks. btw, those small picks are actually mandolin picks.
My favorite type of picks, are Cool picks they have a sand paper grit grip and it won slip in your hand. the jim dunlop with raised letters are really nice too.
Two words- V-PICKS!!!!!! They are fast, sound great, don't slip, and make you play with a lighter hand. Great for proper picking technique. I think that everyone should use V-picks.
Planet Waves Sure Picks are really good and have a great grip. Can't figure out what material they are. The red/thin ones are more like a medium from another company.
lol @ 0:36 to 0:42 it sounds funny the way you're talking [I talk to my dog the same way.] BTW check out Red Bear picks, AMAZING. Imitation tortoise shell, best $18.00 I ever spent!
so uhm weird to ask but i'm collecting guitar picks and i realy would like picks from whole over the world now the thing is i live in europe: belgium (for further details pm me) and uhm i don't got any pay pal or visa so i cant pay you i'm sorry i'm only 14 but please ibeg you its just sending an envloppe with a cheap pick
question? ive been playin 4 bout a year and wen i pick i pick the strings over 20th fret and 21th fret, dose that make a difference or is it ok? any feed back wud be gud thanks
It would be a problem if you wanted to play palm muted stuff because with your hand so high the palm muted stuff will sound horrible.
I find it better to pick stuff in between the humbuckers if you have a guitar with 2 humbuckers or over the middle single coil if you have a SSS or HSS guitar ( that means 3 singe coils or 2 single coils and a humbucker )
i use the Dunlop Jazz III picks... their awesome, quite thick, and well... they sound pretty good ;) used to use the Fender Medium picks, but even when i played through my amp, the i could hear the pick, cuz its so freakin thin...
I like the Delrin 1.5mm picks (I think Yngwie uses them as well). They're super smooth so I lightly scuff them up a bit with sandpaper. I've never dropped one and they don't slide around.
The black Jazz "stiffo" picks have less give than the regular red ones. If you try a Jazz 3 pick, it will take some time to get used to, but once you do you will notice how much more control you have. :)
I'm using Dunlop Tortex standard 1.0 mm picks right now, I can't really play as fast as I want to with them. Is there any way to train my picking hand to go faster?
plz dont scream if my question is silly...can i learn to play electric guitar from the start or i must start with the classic one and continue with the electronic?
It's your choice. If you want to play the kind of music which a classical guitar is good for, go for it. I don't think you really need it if you want to learn electric guitar, the strings on an electric are a lot easier to press down.
plz dont scream if my question is silly...can i learn to play electric guitar from the start or i must start with the classic one and continue with the electronic?
well u can start with anything u want guitar playng is a matter of choice. "its wat feels right to you" u can chose anything that "YOU" feel good with. so get ur self a guitar and rock on...
they have picks called ice i ferget wat company but thay r clear but have a blue plastic grip that is rough like griptape u put ur thumb ryt on it and its so comfortable and stays in ur fingers even wen uve been playin for a while and ur hands get all sweaty there mad good
good observations, I use the .96 Dunlop purple pick (it has an alligator on it ^^) and I've been using the Joe Satriani picks lately too, but the thing is, you just have to try all of them until you find your pick. lol on the "picks come in all shapes and sizes" that sounds kind of wrong.
They also have these picks with like a ring on the back of it so you put it on your index finger and hold it with your thumb and if you take your thumb off of the pick the pick wont fall fall out of your hands.

You can put the same rubber grip that I use on the Surfpick Bullet Pick onto your favorite pick by dipping it in a product called 'Plasti-Dip'.
Lignum Vitae is a pick material that gets 'grippier' when it becomes wet, instead of slipperier.
