Using? In a way, perhaps. I did what I could to offset this affect, by counter-positioning the U-joints of the cycler arms, such that they would be at maximum velocity, when the driver joints were at their minimum. Good observation! -B
A very worthy contribution to those who study motion and it's applications in art. This example bespeaks a keen understanding of motion dynamics, timing and gear ratio and its creator has more than a peripheral knowledge of mechanical engineering.
Very nice project sir, you certainly have impressed me! Thank you...
Thanks for your lovely comments, Eddie. There was a time when I also designed high-speed automated equipment. I loved the work, but there wasn't any opportunity for making art. C'est la vie. -B
You would disallow the creation of these things, based on such an opinion? I want to know, exactly who or what notion is being "cheated?" And, what purpose in my work is being "defeated?" I don't recall actually stating any intended "purpose." Quite frankly, I'm glad that you are not in charge of what I do! -B
sorry i have obviously struck a nerve but i just think that a motor isnt kinetic (depends on what kind of motor you use i would assume) and i just think that the human body is all the motor you need. im not saying that this isnt art, its just that if i ever become an kinetic artist i will certainly not use motors
Before you "become" a kinetic artist you may want to check out the definition of Kinetic Art. Almost all of the definitions contain the statement "Kinetic art is art that contains moving parts or depends on motion for its effect.[1] The moving parts are generally powered by wind, a motor or the observer. " Many, many great artists would love to have you explain how their pieces "cheat".
Wery funny. Я ржал

You make some of the niftiest things ever. :)

Are you using the radial acceleration and deceleration inherent in Cardan joints to alter the rotational velocity of the cycling arms mid rotation?

I hope you got at least 30 large for that. You got a lot of time in it and an artist of your caliber deserves righteous compensation.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
i personally think that using motors in kinetic sculptures is cheating and defeats the purpose. and im a little iffy about wound up springs...

Have you ever worked in aerospace? Seems like you might enjoy designing helicopter rotor systems.

This would make a sweet-ass amusement park ride. Just saying.

Maybe. But who would dare to ride it? 8^O
