I am facing a problem: when i click google map suddenly big square grey colored tiles comes. Initially it was working fine but when i runned the app for 5th or 6th time this problem came up. I tried generating again key n all but still the problem remained the same. Please suggest me what to do.
Great Video man.. doing a school project got it to work on my device flawlessly but the emulator isn't responding for some reason? its saying process android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly would you know why?
@abdullahelkammar you can set up a fake location using the Emulator Control Panel. In the bottom left corner of Eclipse look for a tiny + plus sign and click it. from the list go to "Other" and start typing "EMULATOR" in the search box. select it and say OK. Enter latitude and longitude readings (you can get them from Google Earth or sometimes Google Maps). click send and it will go to your emulator. The Squares means that you don't have a valid APIKey. Either retype it or recreate it.
Help! I'm getting a "install_failed_missing_shared_library google maps" error. I have my application properties set to Google API ver 10 and my AVD set to Google API 2.3.3 version 10 and it still can't find the damn google api. I tried running it through my android incredible running the 2.3.3 kernal but still not luck! I'm going nutts here. Please help!
Thanks for your great work! Just wanted to ask something - I don't get the +|- buttons on the map. I have added the mapV.displayZoomControls(true); mapV.setBuiltInZoomControls(true);
lines, but nothing happens. Can you tell me why or how can I debug my code. I tried using break points on these lines but didn't help. The simulator waited till I clicked on the "continue" button in Eclipse in order to show the map. I used exactly the same code as you showed on your great tutorial
I can't get the map to show, I only get the right coordinate and I know I have internet cause I made a toast that will show if I have internet or not. I know I have a correct Maps API key code cause I followed every step you showed and every instruction on how to make one. I still only get a white background with a grid pattern. I can zoom but I have no map.
There are no tutorials online that works for me either. It's seriosly messed up!
I had the same issue where just getting the squares.. was annoying me all day. then went and used the debug keystore and got the api key for that and now my emulator is working.. at last! Cheers for the vids tho..
@WaeHaKe@CornboyzAndroid....i'm getthing the same error with the R.id.mapView and i have android:name="@+id/mapView" in the main.xml.....if u figured it out please tell me the problem

I can't get any tiles to load, I only have an empty grid and I made sure to update my manifest etc
necroskiss 2 months ago
@necroskiss I had the same problem. It turned out I was given a false certificate.
I was using the latest Java "jre7" and it turns out I had to put the switch "-V" for it to work. You do not need it for "jre6".
So it should look like this "keytool -list -v -alias" etc etc. Once you have the new code obtain a map API key from code.google.com.
Copy the new fingerprint certificate into the api and it should work now.

My one took ages and then at the end it said "
[2011-10-11 02:12:24 - googleMap] Failed to install googleMap.apk on device 'emulator-5554!
[2011-10-11 02:12:24 - googleMap] (null)
[2011-10-11 02:12:27 - googleMap] Launch canceled!"
So it failed and I closed it.

TheTangkarl 11 months ago
@TheTangkarl most likely it has to do with the api key, check out the next tutorial to see if you can get the map working with the debugging api key.

It works for me , you just have to verify that the API-KEY is written right ; if you change one character , it won't work anymore
