Im British and unemployed .Two years ago i had a near fatal heart attack,within 3 minutes of the call the paramedics had shocked the life back into me. One week later i underwent triple bypass and was back home the following week. My children are eternally grateful to our fellow Brits and to Britains greatest asset the NHS. Well if you are never sick in your life then it is cheaper to live in the US. But even if you pay the difference comparing Canadian (or any European) taxes in the US you still would go bankrupt if you get cancer in the US. I have a friend who had a broken collar bone in England. He saw three doctors that each mis diagnosed him. He then went on holiday to Vietnam, and stopped in a clinic. They saw the broken collar bone, and treated him, he was so happy.

I dont know about cuba, actually never been there but beeing an austrian i do know about the health care in most of europe and i couldnt imagine any other system. sure its not perfect, hands down no system is or will ever be but knowing that EVERYONE. here gets the treatment he needs makes my sleep alot safer. i dont even notice any high taxes here, in fact i would gladly pay alot more to keep this system up. The truth is that most european countries got a higher living standart than the Usa.

Every human in the world can make mistakes. But for some one to go to two different hospitals, and both times they miss something as obvious as a broken collar bone, that is bad. My point is that private medicine does a better job than government medicine. Even in England, many people pay for private health care because the free government health care is so bad. Take a good look at the ending of sicko. a cuban pays 5 cents, that lady from the US payed 120 dollar for the same kind of medicine in the us. Cubans have nothing financially compared to americans. The idea with Socialised medicine is that EVERYBODY has access to first class treatment. The US has one of the worst healthcare records in the developed world and yet it is the richest country. The cost in taxes is minimal per person infact cheaper than getting insurance. The healthcare system is a scam for insurance companies (who sometimes don't even payout) and drug companies. But the main issue here is that of compassion. Compassion for your fellow American.

You are still stuck on people not getting paid for their work, of course they will. You seem to be listening to the Republican scare stories of Socialism and then Communism. You haven't once justified your position or replied to the point that it will be cheaper to pay taxes to universal healthcare than to get insurance.

@dougdangger I am from the UK. What you hear is not true at all. I have also lived in the US and had insurance there and there was no difference in the service. I now live in another country where we have part socialised medicine and if anything the service is worse than the UK and I have to pay for it. Most European countries have Socialist characteristics and enjoy a very high standard of living. I work in sales and marketing.

"This system" may not work perfectly, but it works pretty well. I do not have to think about anything concerning hospitals, local doctors, pharmacys, etc. and money. Everything is taken care of. You don´t have to fight with private cooperations (which are, by definition, all about profit) for any procedures, they just do them, as long as they are medicaly adviseable. And as being from Austria, you give 45% of your income and nobody gives a shit, because we take care of each other

I met a doctor who told me that AIDS didn't exist in Cuba because it was capitalist illness !!! incredible ti hear that from a pseudo doctor !!!
