it annoys me that this is the only film to use this peice, its almost like the main theme of movie 3, but i think it should have been used almost as consistently as hedwig's theme

In my opinion, 'A Window to the Past' reminds me of Lupin. I don't if it's the scene this song is played in the movie or the fact that book three is when Harry meets Sirius and Lupin (who were James' friends at school) but whenever I hear it play, Lupin is the first that comes to mind.

@HiShampoo Lupin is a main character in the scene where this song is being played. He is talking to Harry about why he wouldn't let him face the bogart during class. They are talking on a bridge in the movie however, in the book they are talking in his office and Snape barges in to give him his potion. Lupin is an epic character in harry potter. This song matches him perfectly.

@Jordnwthereal i had an idea that they could go and make Harry Potter prequels, much like what Lucas did with Star Wars. showing Tom Riddle as a boy, then rising to power as Voldemort, and also Harry`s parents as children, then end it with the night where Voldemort kills Harry`s parents and dies trying to kill Harry. I think that would be interesting.

@kramerscape1 False. This is not a song. A song is a composition of music accompanied by vocals. Without the vocals, it's just music....which is what this is. Yes this has a tune, but the main factor that declares the difference between a song & just music is the vocals....this doesn't have any.

Remember, songs are music, but music aren't necessarily songs. Similar to how a square is a rectangle, but a rectangle is not a square.
