Heh ... see "Festiwal Słowian i Wikingów Wolin 2011". We have arms of steel ... we do not sharpen swords and axes for safety: D Everything is more real. But I do not deny that what you are doing is fun. Everything is for the people and if somebody likes this kind of battle that's fine too. Ps. The rules are similar in our case. When you feel pain after being hit then you're dead: P
is it me, or combat rules sucks? everyone looks like they're down on the first hit, is there a way we can fight until get tired, or something like that?
or at least, can we respawn on the backside of the army to continue fighting?
@Dimitri0809 or you can just continue to beat the shit out of them if they dont go down, thats what we do in paintball, if you dont drop your gun, i'll shoot you more
@domnikoli First, I would suggest researching the topics that you comment on. Second, this isn't LARPing.
Many of the folks in the SCA are very well educated individuals. Mix the intelligence about history and warfare, and suddenly you realize that you just insulted 3,000 + Smart people with martial arts training. Luckily, people in the SCA are also very civilized and don't need to stoop to the level of ignorance of insulting things we know nothing about like some people do.
@domnikoli The group that I play in has many doctors, lawyers, IT and IS admins, business owners, construction workers, cops, Federal Agents and a hell of a lot of chemists. Some of them have beards; some of us play video games. Just an FYI, but have your fun insulting others...
@domnikoli um "the cheapie replica swords" is made of rattan, a type of bamboo, for saftey, they hit hard! Most of the patterns and decoaration fo the "wow" Tabards are histircally accurate. The spot as a whole is rather exspensive to get into the helms alone are 150 ,
@domnikoli well atleast a well made one is. , and even to get in with plastic covered in a Tabard is another 75 Then there is feast gear, clothes, site fee this event is over 100 for the week point is to do the properly you have to make decent money. Plus most of the ppl are very well educate. I know ppl in it that are librarians, profs, and published authors, then my college groups includes several students in advanced sciences, and history major many of whom are going to be getting there PDH
I'm in this video at 2:20, wearing a sallet helm, gothic greaves and vambraces, and a visby coat, my freind next to me is in full gothic harness, all the armor is steel. JVRottweil is full of it.
@tchunter3 Hey man, no need to get so touchy. It wasn't a jab at you or anyone. I didn't say you in particular. Just from what I have seen, its mostly modern plastic sports gear thats hidden. Like I said, that's fine. More people can play that way. I applaud the Kingdoms who upped their Armour appearance standards. But full of it? No. Many folks still wear plastic and you know it. I just don't call it armour. You do. No big deal Have fun either way.
@JVRottweil Take another look. Every single helmet on the field is steel, minimum 16 ga, usually heavier. Take a closer look at the armor. You can see a lot of it. Yes, there is some plastic, some sports equipment, but mostly it's steel and leather. The rules of the game actually say you have to have certain body parts covered by rigid material. An average fighter's kit weighs about 40-60 lbs. Come to an event sometime and check it out and see how fun it is!
@captainzorikh I agree the events can be fun. I have been to a few. Its really cool you guys have a lot of fun doing what you love and while I don't refer to it as armored combat, if that's what you want to call it, that's cool because technically any protective gear is a type of armor. Most guys seem to keep the plastic covered up and many have a great field presence. Keep up the good work.
@JVRottweil It's a lot easier to make assumptions like that than it is to pull up the armor regulations website for the SCA. But since you have probably never seen and SCA batlle close up or have read the regulations, I shall forgive your misunderstanding in this matter.
@TheKaiserBB Sorry mate, most I have seen up close wear plastic and such. Its cool. I just dont call that armor. Yes many do wear actual historical styled armor, but a great many dont. No big deal. Have fun out there.
I dont think I would refer to them as armoured. Most don't wear any armour at all. Mostly hidden plastic modern sports gear. Hardly can be called armour.
Which is fine, more people can play that way. Just doesn't seem right to call it armor, when for the most part, it isnt.
@JVRottweil This vid is almost twenty years old and it was my first Pennsic war. SCA fighters are wearing more authentic kits now. I fight in a thirty pound hauberk. I have found most sports equipment is useless for SCA combat.

@domnikoli I don't think this was necessary. I have very deep respect for SCA players, and most of them could probably eat you for breakfast :)
