I was told Southpark got this idea from a sci-fi movie called "They Live". The director wanted 2 actors to fight on 20 seconds. The actors however want realism. For 5 minutes and 20 seconds they were fighting for real but made an agreement to not hit in the face and groins. One did and the other got even...hence cripple fight.
