this is not a review :) feels like an opinion of an average pop-corn loving teenager, who accidentally stumbled upon an European film and desperately tries to make some sense out of it by force-fitting it into an a Hollywood narrative paradigm.
This film is over the reviewer's head. Its bad enough when you read simplistic, reiteration of the plot reviews of the basic, moronic Hollywood fare aimed at twelve-year-olds, but in the case of a film like "13 Tzameti", its particularly nauseating. This guy wouldn't perceive existential if Death himself sat down to play chess with him.
I've seen the film and this guy is pretty dead on. I loved the concept but there's no real character development. Still a very unique and engaging piece of film.
What a shallow and mediocre review. Plus you spolied the movie. I can only imagine what you would have said about Waiting For Godot. Uggh. Please stick to reviewing Disney movies or teen slasher flicks. I think this was a little above your IQ level.
A very lame review. I'm so tired of lazy reviewers who just play out the clock by running down details of the plot. In this case, there is so much more to this film than what the reviewer managed to perceive. There's a reason this film won the awards that it did - its brilliant. There are many levels to this film - philosophical and social and related to human nature. I give this review a thumbs down.
I disagree with him completely. I thought the black and white really added to the intensity of the film, and I doubt if in colour the suspense built up when watching the bulb would really have the same effect on me. I'm trying to picture it in colour and its not working. Also, the character development I don't think is as necessary as he thinks it is. Sebastien doesn't speak that much, but his facial expressions say more than words ever could, like in his final duel. Truly gripping stuff.
6.5??? Find a window and jump

imo, the whole black and white aspect is the thing that shift our focus throughout the film, such as light, gun or person at minimum effort
and 13 is more of a silent protagonist that bring the audience for a ride, somehow
when he stepped onto the stage, nothing else really matters and have you rooting for the guy you just walk in with.

this film could have been ruined by color. B&W adds disparity and hardens peoples faces which illuminates the feeling in the game room.

Yes! Colour I think would totally drain the emotion you get from the grainy minimalistic texturing of the film.
