i can see his point, but i could amplify it a little: many people can be actually quite good at somethings, average at others, and totally crap at other stuff. usually it's a good thing to try to be above average in at least SOMEthing, but being average at things isn't gonna send you to hell. Fantastic speech. But just food for thought: perhaps the standard of average is different per person. There are people who achieve 'average' marks and could do so much better, but is just lazy. So that isn't average, it's mediocrity in my opinion. I don't mean one should become obsessed about maxing themselves out, but I think it's the pouring oneself out for what one values is what makes a person exceptional, not their achievements.
