all high school leagues and up need to go to wood bats. it brings more talent, i know a lot of kids who will hit 10 to 11 homeruns with metal, and then they go to wood and barely get 1 or 2 out. wood is the natural bat of the game not metal. plus the sound of a crack is better than the sound of ping!!!. if your able to hit 5 ot 6 our with wood in high school season. then you've got talent. LiKE THIS IF YOU AGREE ABOUT WOOD BATS!!!
I have a question. I play softball and I was wondering. Does anyone else see his front foot fly open? My coach always told me not to do so, but I can't help it. What's the way to get more power? I'm thinking Bryce's way since he hit that sucker 500 ft. haha. Oh and by the way, Bryce Harper is an amazing baseball player, and I love him (:
wow. if you want to see how good he is. notice how quickly he hits it and how long it takes the guy behind him to react. but 105 isnt that good of a number. i know a 16 year old who can post a 100
@bcat13cyc - If you watch the full version of this video, he actually does get up to the 110's a couple times. I think the highest he gets is 113, but he gets under that one a little.
@urweetodddid idiot ya he can. not much of a difference to him but a lot to others because nobody could dominate the minors or colege pitchers like how he hits. he has a 120mph batspeed faastest in history. averages over 500 everygame and can throw 96mph at age 16 so id shut ur mouth
why are people so ignorant? players like bryce harper will brush away all these steroid players. guys like bryce are the players of the steroid free generation. Joe Mauer is leading the charge. now you got powerful hitters like Jason Heyward and phenom pitchers like Stephen Strasburg.
aye yo da power showcase u ever chilled with ur homeboys in dat der vegas stripline cuz?? u kno dat chill cuz big harp maching couldn't chill if he be chilliin wit his homies at da home an dat home be on fire son son... dat big bryce couldn't eat his way out of dat der wooden bat son son.. lat time crispycob checked in dat der hall o fame and da majors use dat der wood ur big harp machine don't swing no wood so he not be in da hall o fame or even yankee stadium cuz member play on da field not oh
Everyone is talking about the aflac games and how he didnt do so well... BUT, everyone has a bad game, slumps.. even the greatest of all time had bad games.
@333beastmode Hahaha I find this funny ok lets wait till the majors give him 2-3 Years in the big leagues watch how much more power and skills he will have
The kid is amazing at 16, and he already has hig expectations for his career: "Be in the Hall of Fame, definitely. Play in Yankee Stadium. Play in the pinstripes. Be considered the greatest baseball player who ever lived. I can't wait." I can't wait either!
and you probably fail at hitting off speed. a stride like that won't work for many people, harper is just has flat out raw talent. that many hitches in a load? and be able to hit like that? just raw talent, nobody teaches to do that, because it can't work for everyone. he has just found something to works for him.
sure laugh it off because you can't give me a good enough reason and who are u calling a fucking idiot, fucking idiots are people who don't finish high school
lol you just sound like a jealous douchebag..look at crosby, lebron, rooney, kobe, etc...do you think they made bad decisions? No..the simple fact is that even in the rare case where star athletes do sustain career-ending injuries, they can always return to school..they don't finish college first because the chance of them being injured for life is very, very slim...they're smarter than you, let's face it...and I didn't really start it, I just replied to your moronic statement, you fucking idiot
That's not the way to go brotha school first, baseball second. Don't get too far ahead of yourself, he's only in the very beginning stages of his baseball career. It takes years to become a star and it goes beyond just how far you can hit a baseball. He may not always have baseball, but he will always have his education. What do you know about baseball anyway your from Canada your blue jays are doin really good bro there creepin up on the yanks.
Abd by the way, I know tons about baseball, "brotha"...you're the fucking loser who revisits videos to start arguments with people while I'm out playing ball haha, get a fucking life man, seriously.
And finally, to complete the thought, when Bryce uncorks, his back side knee is driven almost straight down toward the ground in concert with the hips pulling the body thru the zone. When a hitter can get all these gears working in concert - like a fine symphony - you generate enourmous ground up power...no matter how big you are. I think that a majority of home run hitters in the majors are under 200 pounds.
This Old School swing also has a perfect moment of weight transfer to the FRONT side. No "squish the bug". Watch the video and concentrate on the back foot. There is no squish. The back foot comes along for the ride and turns as a function of the hip snap and release. Then, for the moment of contact the rear foot/toes are completley off the ground with all weight on the strong front side. He rotates around the strong front side on a slanted axis.
Actually, it is an old kind of swing. Pick up "The Science of Hitting" by Ted Williams 1971. It's all there in black and white and color. Pictures and dialogue. It looks lie a new kind of swing, but if you can get slow motion of most ALL major leaguers today, they hit like this...no down swing, but a slight up track to match the plane of the flight of the ball. Physics. A core load that winds up for an explosion of power lead by the hips thru the zone first then crack the whip w/barrel
look at his power transfer its like flawless yea he's a little off balance but balance comes from practice this kid is going to be one of the great hitters of our time you can count on that
that is no normal 16 year olds swing......his footwork, hip rotation and bat speed is just sick......plus he is a power hitting catcher which is sweet......he has more of a homerun swing then joe mauer
no... i bet he doesn't do shit against knuckle balls, nicely placed fastballs, nasty curveballs, sliders, gyro balls, changeup's, MUCH MORE... high school is SOOOOOO much easier compared to pros......
He's getting his GED this summer, so high school diploma right there, and he's playing at the college of nevada in the fall, so he's getting one year of college, he's not stupid, he just knows he's going to be a stud.
He can fall back on his contract and endorsement money that he'll surely be making, and if worst comes to worst and he gets severely injured in his first year(very far-fetched), he can go back to school then...ta-dah!
Wow, you're really going to chirp me for being from Canada because the Blue Jays are our only professional team and they suck? You're a fucking tard. And do you think every athlete should finish college? Christ, hardly any professional athletes have college degrees. Most are drafted after a year or two of post-secondary and realize that they're going to be making millions in the big leagues...honestly though, if you were given the chance to go pro, you'd stick out 4 years of college for nothing?
the bamboo..i just liked the pop it had off the bat...and there lighter.....but the d-bat is a popular choice...used by a few pros like andrew jones and jermaine dye...i think that bryce is going to have a proplem shattering the wood tho..haha watch out pitchers..
the REAL question is when this kid gets to the pros , what type of bat will he use? there are so many diff types of wooden bats now days..i played in the MABL , which is jst a local adult league and we used wood...the contact and swing is so much different..im not saying harper wont be able to hit, cause i have seen what he does with wood..it wont make a big difference to him..i just want to knw whay wood type..i chose the d-bat, which is made from soft oak,and also i used a bamboo..i prefere
and for the not hitting with wood....go check the videos on his high school home page of him hittin in practice...he smashes the ball with wood too..of course it dont go 500 ft w wood but hes 16...give him a couple years...look out barry bonds...this kid will be talked about for the next 5 years..if not longer....so stop hatein....you knw he is good so give him the credit..
grantbulls...are you mad??or jst upset ur nothing close to him?? he can throw 95+ all day, and has a slider and split...and a naughty curve....u wouldnt touch a pitch from him....he can gun stealers out on his knees so he CAN catch...he will be around for twenty years in the majors....and the bat thing...he has to use a ALLUMINUM bat..its high school... but if yall knew anything bout him u would knw he would rather use wood...ALLUMINUM has the tendency to sting when u hit it 500ft all the time
dude.. wow. your just one of those stupid fuckers that just hates on people that are really completely amazing. how can you say your not impressed. you know nothing
he can hit a ball 500ft. but when he gets to the pros he might not be able to do that with a wood bat he used a metal and it was one of the best metal bats right now
anyone who says he is out in front cuz his leg kick needs to look closely. he is PERFECTLY balanced. when he hits his body is as balanced as pujols...he just has a leg kick, big deal. And he plays wooden bat tourneys and does just fine
Have you watched any baseball the last 3 years? i'm guessin not considering their are tons of guys with a leg kick in the bigs these days, it's a timing technique that... ahhemm...WORKS
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
listen to what you just said "in the bigs" hes fucking 16 years old and has seen mediocre pitching AT BEST!!!!! he plays in a crappy league where there has been little talent to come from. my self played in one of the hardest districts in the state of florda out of hs and the second hardest conference in college.
his leg kick in his leage is equivalent to me playing againts my 5 year old neighbor using a woofle ball.
im not talking shit. im saying he plays in a shitty league where there have been maybe 2 draft picks in the last year. every other first year draft player is from florida/cali! the kid no doubt has unbelieveable power but power doesnt mean shit if you dont connect.
Dear Fruity Ass, It's great to hear you played in "one of the hardest districts in flordia and and second hardest conference in college (which would be?), but heres a fun fact for ya Bryce Harper has been flying across the country since he was 11 to play against the nations top tallent, people pay him to play in tourneys for them, I know your jealous of his ability and think your better than him because you played in a tough league in HS but WAKE UP. Bryce Harper is the SHIT.
you can be impressed but your facts are correct. and putting him in better competition will only hurt his draft stats. how much better can you get than number one pick? not much. i would play my other 2 years against crappy competition sign for millions and call it a day! hes an idiot for going to community college a year early
Are you suggesting that all 32 MLB scouting directors have been unanimously duped by Harper? That the hundreds of thousands of dollars spent collectively to travel and scout and him has been a waste? and all they needed to do was seek the advice of a jealous JUCO player who's afraid to identify himself by name, but rather hides behind of the moniker of arguably the most overrated towel waving slap hitter of all time? Wow, thanks for checking in NoNamer!
no doubt the kid is the best 16 year old on the planet. but is he worth more to an organization than say buster posey, matt laporta, strasburg, david price, tim beckham, gordon beckham,
maybe but who knows hes 16 and like i said hes seen mediocre pitching at best. before i say that the kid is worth 7 million and a first round pick, i would love to see him play in marietta georgia or one of the perfect game tournys.
Okay, well at the least the problem here is you're ignorant/misinformed. He's been playing in National Perfect Game Showcases for two years among dozens of others across the nation against the TOP high school talent. Don't you get it? He's excelled against the best all over the country! One scout from a tournament in Miami, FL last year said he was legitimately concerned for the safety of the 1st and 2nd baseman because Harper was hitting line drives they weren't reacting to in time.
Liljeter2018 has no right to criticize the top prospect for the 2010 draft. Bryce is an outstanding player. However, there is no need to bring Jeter into this. Derek Jeter is a great baseball player and has been very successful in the big leagues. It isn't fair to talk trash about Jeter and criticize his style of hitting when we haven't seen Bryce face an MLB pitcher yet. For all we know, Bryce will never reach the level that Jeter has (very unlikely). But you never know, anything can happen.
read the sports illustrated article about how hard this kid works. not to mention the raw skills he already has such as a cannon of an arm, ridiculous power with the bat, and great speed. it's hard to tell how a kid's going to turn out so early, but this kid definitely has the potential to be a truly remarkable player for quite some time.
wow everybody should stop freaking out about this kid.....everybody forgets how many good players there are...lol cant wait til this kid faces real pitching. not high school.
You have no idea what you are talking about. This kid is the best of the best. I am sure he will do fine against MLB pitching. You act like this kid isn't one of the best players ever at the age of 15. Obviously the scouts think he will do great or they wouldn't want him. If you don't know what you are talking about then don't say anything.
the only way he would be nothing, is if something tragic (knock on wood) happens. he works so hard, there is no way his work and natural skill wont add up to greatness. the real question is how high will he peak?
@grantbulls dude. mark prior was the best pitcher in the league and the only reason he started doing bad was because he was over worked. he hurt his arm because he threw 2 thousand pitches a month and most of them were breaking balls. if you were as smart as these guys are good...well that wouldnt happen because you are sooo dumb for saying that. bryce harper will be someone and what will you be? a pointless guy who likes to degrade people with true talent so that he might be able to feel better
Oh man. The kid swings harder than McGwire ever could, and he's going to be a nobody? Okay man. Regardless if he doesn't end up being phenomenal, he certainly will never be a nobody.
very good swing

the bamboo..i just liked the pop it had off the bat...and there lighter.....but the d-bat is a popular choice...used by a few pros like andrew jones and jermaine dye...i think that bryce is going to have a proplem shattering the wood tho..haha watch out pitchers..
theEcoffman 2 years ago
the REAL question is when this kid gets to the pros , what type of bat will he use? there are so many diff types of wooden bats now days..i played in the MABL , which is jst a local adult league and we used wood...the contact and swing is so much different..im not saying harper wont be able to hit, cause i have seen what he does with wood..it wont make a big difference to him..i just want to knw whay wood type..i chose the d-bat, which is made from soft oak,and also i used a bamboo..i prefere

and for the not hitting with wood....go check the videos on his high school home page of him hittin in practice...he smashes the ball with wood too..of course it dont go 500 ft w wood but hes 16...give him a couple years...look out barry bonds...this kid will be talked about for the next 5 years..if not longer....so stop hatein....you knw he is good so give him the credit..
theEcoffman 2 years ago
grantbulls...are you mad??or jst upset ur nothing close to him?? he can throw 95+ all day, and has a slider and split...and a naughty curve....u wouldnt touch a pitch from him....he can gun stealers out on his knees so he CAN catch...he will be around for twenty years in the majors....and the bat thing...he has to use a ALLUMINUM bat..its high school... but if yall knew anything bout him u would knw he would rather use wood...ALLUMINUM has the tendency to sting when u hit it 500ft all the time
theEcoffman 2 years ago
dude.. wow. your just one of those stupid fuckers that just hates on people that are really completely amazing. how can you say your not impressed. you know nothing
skateskizzle1234 2 years ago
roids?
therocky25 2 years ago
he can hit a ball 500ft. but when he gets to the pros he might not be able to do that with a wood bat he used a metal and it was one of the best metal bats right now
dumcousins7777 2 years ago
I don't think many would have a problem if he only could hit a ball 430 with a wood bat.
offbdway 2 years ago
anyone who says he is out in front cuz his leg kick needs to look closely. he is PERFECTLY balanced. when he hits his body is as balanced as pujols...he just has a leg kick, big deal. And he plays wooden bat tourneys and does just fine
shockattack2 2 years ago
yeah balanced offf b.p his leg kick is going to cause many problems against a good college curveball.
any a few can have the leg kick and stay balanced through their swing ie future hall of famers. manny ramierez and gary sheffield
liljeter2018 2 years ago
Have you watched any baseball the last 3 years? i'm guessin not considering their are tons of guys with a leg kick in the bigs these days, it's a timing technique that... ahhemm...WORKS

listen to what you just said "in the bigs" hes fucking 16 years old and has seen mediocre pitching AT BEST!!!!! he plays in a crappy league where there has been little talent to come from. my self played in one of the hardest districts in the state of florda out of hs and the second hardest conference in college.
his leg kick in his leage is equivalent to me playing againts my 5 year old neighbor using a woofle ball.
liljeter2018 2 years ago
hit a 500 ft home run then talk shit
baseballjock30 2 years ago 2
im not talking shit. im saying he plays in a shitty league where there have been maybe 2 draft picks in the last year. every other first year draft player is from florida/cali! the kid no doubt has unbelieveable power but power doesnt mean shit if you dont connect.
liljeter2018 2 years ago
Dear Fruity Ass, It's great to hear you played in "one of the hardest districts in flordia and and second hardest conference in college (which would be?), but heres a fun fact for ya Bryce Harper has been flying across the country since he was 11 to play against the nations top tallent, people pay him to play in tourneys for them, I know your jealous of his ability and think your better than him because you played in a tough league in HS but WAKE UP. Bryce Harper is the SHIT.
matzner21 2 years ago 7
have a nice day. good talk.
liljeter2018 2 years ago
@matzner21 umm. if he got payed to play for people then he wouldnt have been able to play high school or college.

97 MPH fastball
Catcher
Bats Left
Throws Right
batspeed = 117
age = 16
Furthest homerun hit = 570 Feet (as a Freshmen in HS)
Height = 6'2
Weight = 205
Whats to hate about the kid?.....Nothing,,,I'm just jelious
matzner21 2 years ago
not gonna be a pitcher
won't play catcher if he wants to last
uses a metal bat
the last one is a huge thing, he hasn't proved he can use a wood bat so until i see him hitting 570 with a wood bat i'm not impressed
grantbulls 2 years ago
you can be impressed but your facts are correct. and putting him in better competition will only hurt his draft stats. how much better can you get than number one pick? not much. i would play my other 2 years against crappy competition sign for millions and call it a day! hes an idiot for going to community college a year early
liljeter2018 2 years ago
Are you suggesting that all 32 MLB scouting directors have been unanimously duped by Harper? That the hundreds of thousands of dollars spent collectively to travel and scout and him has been a waste? and all they needed to do was seek the advice of a jealous JUCO player who's afraid to identify himself by name, but rather hides behind of the moniker of arguably the most overrated towel waving slap hitter of all time? Wow, thanks for checking in NoNamer!
PowerShowcase 2 years ago
no doubt the kid is the best 16 year old on the planet. but is he worth more to an organization than say buster posey, matt laporta, strasburg, david price, tim beckham, gordon beckham,
maybe but who knows hes 16 and like i said hes seen mediocre pitching at best. before i say that the kid is worth 7 million and a first round pick, i would love to see him play in marietta georgia or one of the perfect game tournys.
liljeter2018 2 years ago
Okay, well at the least the problem here is you're ignorant/misinformed. He's been playing in National Perfect Game Showcases for two years among dozens of others across the nation against the TOP high school talent. Don't you get it? He's excelled against the best all over the country! One scout from a tournament in Miami, FL last year said he was legitimately concerned for the safety of the 1st and 2nd baseman because Harper was hitting line drives they weren't reacting to in time.
PowerShowcase 2 years ago
dude id be jealous to if i played in a tough college conference and a 16 year old is gonna go number 1.....who would have thunk it
gullby 2 years ago
Liljeter2018 has no right to criticize the top prospect for the 2010 draft. Bryce is an outstanding player. However, there is no need to bring Jeter into this. Derek Jeter is a great baseball player and has been very successful in the big leagues. It isn't fair to talk trash about Jeter and criticize his style of hitting when we haven't seen Bryce face an MLB pitcher yet. For all we know, Bryce will never reach the level that Jeter has (very unlikely). But you never know, anything can happen.
EEKKUULL 2 years ago
the Jeter comment was tongue in cheek, BUT Harper is far more advanced at 16 than Jeter was, so I would say it is likely to reach his level.
PowerShowcase 2 years ago
I completely agree
EEKKUULL 2 years ago
He can hit with a wood bat and hit good...i mean great, and seriously whats not impressive about this kid?
matzner21 2 years ago
read the sports illustrated article about how hard this kid works. not to mention the raw skills he already has such as a cannon of an arm, ridiculous power with the bat, and great speed. it's hard to tell how a kid's going to turn out so early, but this kid definitely has the potential to be a truly remarkable player for quite some time.
titsmcgee44D 2 years ago
wow everybody should stop freaking out about this kid.....everybody forgets how many good players there are...lol cant wait til this kid faces real pitching. not high school.
n8dawg360 2 years ago
You have no idea what you are talking about. This kid is the best of the best. I am sure he will do fine against MLB pitching. You act like this kid isn't one of the best players ever at the age of 15. Obviously the scouts think he will do great or they wouldn't want him. If you don't know what you are talking about then don't say anything.
AcP2142 2 years ago
your an idiot hes probably the best `16 yr old baseball player ever.

I think some people have problems in the States is switching from Metal to Wood. totally different feel.
ProEthan 2 years ago
the only way he would be nothing, is if something tragic (knock on wood) happens. he works so hard, there is no way his work and natural skill wont add up to greatness. the real question is how high will he peak?

juicyrecordings 2 years ago
exactly what if this kid gets hurt.
n8dawg360 2 years ago
@grantbulls dude. mark prior was the best pitcher in the league and the only reason he started doing bad was because he was over worked. he hurt his arm because he threw 2 thousand pitches a month and most of them were breaking balls. if you were as smart as these guys are good...well that wouldnt happen because you are sooo dumb for saying that. bryce harper will be someone and what will you be? a pointless guy who likes to degrade people with true talent so that he might be able to feel better
