Thats true no time period is perfect its just too bad that we left the bad stuff from the 50's behind but also left the good stuff behind, we should hav kept that good stuff :(
And this was the era that was so hated and scorned because it was obviously so "racist" that America had to get away from it at any and all possible costs. But the America that we have today is obviously so much better isn't it? The 1950's nuclear family wasn't perfect, but I'd give just about anything for America to return to the days when she was strong and united as one nation under God rather than the multi-cultural, secular-progressive liberal toilet that it's become today. Disgusting.
@MrSchultzstaffel There are a few things from the 1950's I would not want to bring back, among them legalized racism and that sort of smug middle-class antisemitism. But few things annoy me more than presentism -- the belief that everyone in the past was flawed while we today are perfect. Like masternet said above, I wish the US had held onto all the good stuff from the 1950's.
@Detectivefiction Well, we have plenty of legalized racisim here today too. And antisemitism cut's across all class'es and racial lines to match. Liberals have the presentism concept down to a "T" but they also worship at the alter of futureism...or that a continuing, secular-progressive thrust will eventually produce utopia. Yeah, tell that to the Thousand-Year Reich that lasted 12 years. The pendulam is about to swing back the other way because people have had it, but it's gonna' be ugly.
@petergrenader Because there's no doubt that any mis-spellings that you may find totally invalidate any point that I've made what so ever because you had no real idea just how to attack the substance of the points that were actually made. "Come across as smart." Well, as a wise man once said, "Smart I like....smart-ass I don't." So in your case, I'd have to say, "Smart, you aren't...smart-ass would be an improvement." lol You're dismissed. Uhhh...is taht simple enouhg for you to unterstnd? =D
@mxylpx OK, I didn't realize that you were kidding as I just wanted you to know that rumor about Mathers going to Vietnam or being killed there was just that. It was believed by 1000's for years.
in the 50's we could see a double feature + cartoons or 3 stooges shorts for 35cents at our neighborhood theatre on Sundays. a cup of coka-cola from a machine was a dime ,a box of popcorn was 7 cents.
@codethis But this is very unusual for Ward. You have to watch the whole series -- usually he is portrayed as a progressive parent, the type who does try to understand his kids and speak to them as equals.
2 weeks of no movies for a punishment, big deal! How many freakin movies does this kid see anyway lol? When I was a kid I was lucky to see a couple movies a year.
@bigjim1001 Two weeks without movies was a fairly severe punishment in those days. I went to the movies at least once a week, sometimes more in the mid 60s. For a lousy buck your parents could get rid of you for at least five hours. 50 cents for the double feature and 50 cents for enough candy to make you sick.
Ward, droppin' the knowledge as usual.
