There is nothing wrong with having a Government...big government or not...it's the people that run it that make it or break it...FIRE ALL HEALTH INSURANCE CEO'S They screwed everyone for far too long!

Typical communist propaganda
Private Sector works better than Government.
This is why Healthcare must remain private. Less government is needed no more!
Take it Democrats or move out of USA (I would suggest you a Russia)
btw Al. Gore makes $50M/year by lying about "Climate Change" (a.k.a "Global Warming" before temperatures started to fall) Why it wasn't mentioned in this ad.
Please don't use the post office it takes money out of the hands of Fed-Ex and UPS. Please don't use public schools it cause's the private schools to suffer. Please don't use the fire department you could just call someone and pay him to put out your house fire. Don't be protected by the U.S. military it takes money out of the hands of private mercs. Anyone who use's these government programs is a god damn communist nazi and should be tried for treason.
Oh please, this poster knows this vid is crap. It's not the truth because it's a phony commercial people. Dems are EQUALLY OPPOSED to the current bs in the health reform bill. See through the message...as I'm sure you already did!
This is an ANTI-REP clip and is here for that reason and that reason alone! Post your pro-dem vids all day, it's your right, but misleading people with such CRAP is an insult to our intelligence.
Oh please, yourself. In what way are Dems "equally opposed" to the health reform bill? A few are, but most are for it. And all but (maybe) one GOP senator are opposed to the reform bill, even without a public option.
Japan: spends 8% GDP, if you loose your job you don't loose coverage; you are sent to community plan, patient per capita is $2600, the premium for familes is $280 per month half is payed by the employer, HI companies, employers, and Govt. have a role in paying for health care. LE: 83 yrs, and IMR: 3 deaths per 1,000 birth.
USA: spends 16% GDP, Lax regualtion, corruption, greed, and discrimination by tHI companies, 15% uninsured, 60% underinsured, LE: 76 yrs, and IMR: 7deaths per 1000
Wow I swear this country is getting more stupid from redneck garbage form FOX and Rush Limbaugh. Obama is trying to make america into a hybrid system which has both a public and a private option. It is used in Japan, Singapore, Germany, Brazil, France, and New Zealand. Seriously take a geography class, a langauge class.
But just to show an example of a hybrid i am going to compare the JAPANESE to the AMERICAN SYSTEM.
BTW - liberals are always telling me it's not about class envy. What else is this ad about if not demonizing wealth. Is it the American dream that we should all live in miserable poverty, like every other socialist/communist country? Wealth is evil? Anyone who becomes rich is evil?
Makes no sense. When we're all living in this euphoric state of equal poverty - who pays for healthcare then?
The point is that large companies are promising campaign contributions to politicians to vote against policies that will benefit the American people in general, & they're doing this so they can continue to gouge prices from the populace. Obama's policy counters corporate abuse through competition, similar to how unions and the illegalizing of monopolies work now. Complete laissez-faire would unfortunately leave workers and customers open to much abuse.
I was going to respond to cantikq, but I really have no idea what he said.
I agree 100% we need to reform healthcare. I disagree with every fiber of my being that we need to allow the incompetent Washington politicians who know less about healthcare than they do the constitution, to take it over.
If people can't switch job because they afraid of losing their benefit I think it so sad...why do most republican is so selfish? It's time to reform the health care...American wake the F*** up!!!
I'm discented that both sides of the isle call us constituents now. That is confusing to a number of American citizens. A constituent could be a colleague politician as well. We should be adressed as "The People" That is what is in our "U.S. Constitution" that upholds our freedoms. the more they devert from this the more "The People" forget.
This so-called AmericansUnited is a dirty corrupt liberal special interest group that makes its money by spreading lies and B.S. left-wing propaganda against Republicans! You'll never hear this sleazy group telling the truth about rotten corrupt Democrats taking big money and kickbacks to promote government-run health care. This organization is nothing but hypocritical left-wing corruption!
Don't worry the American majority has waken. The August town halls clearly show the discontent of obama & his corrupt democratic party trying to push a socialist agenda down the American peoples throats.
One of their most promoted is Sen. DeMint's plan for a 5K tax credit or voucher (depending on income) for any family not covered by employer paid insurance.
Hello...30 million families x 5K x 10 years is $1.5 trillion.
Thats more than the Dems propose! And 5 K does not buy much of a family policy. What it does buy, is those high deductible high copay polices that the insurance companies call "profit centers".
What a bunch of disingenuous, politiically-driven turds!
The problem with this is democrats are just as rich as the republicans, I don't think this is a personal wealth issue.
After all, politicians from both sides get no where legislating for their own needs but instead legislating for their constituents so they can get re-elected.
US Government already spend as much per capita on healthcare as Canada, while Medicare and Medicaid already work so well, I don't blame many for not wanting to rock the boat, but the system still needs reform.
Actually of the 5 richest in congress and senate, 4 are Democrats. Congressman Darrell Issa (R-California) is the only Republican in the top 5. Historically Republicans have been more educated and more affluent, but after 2008 the title has swung to the Democratic party for the first time since 1964.
I don't know about Education, but overall, those who voted for the Democrat party in at least the last 3 elections have been from the wealthiest States. If you multiply the % of voters by each State's average income (and if this number is significant), then Democrats show an average income 20% higher than Republicans. 20% is a huge difference which implies to me that this is not a new trend.
You're a moron. We live in a capitalist society. They're entitled to make a profit. We need reform and for them to be responsible, not socialist takeovers.
The incoming president of the Canadian Medical Association, said her countrys govt run health care system is sick and imploding." For health care reform to be successful, they have to reduce costs, and the only way in fact to reduce cost is to reduce services and ration care. That's why their system is collapsing. Are there any govt run entitlement programs that run efficiently and on budget? Are Medicare, Medicaid and the VA hospital system ran well? Has the govt ever lied to anyone?
The over-whelming majority of Republicans in Congress and the Senate there days are morally bankrupt. Unlike their grandfathers and great-grandfathers, almost half of whom voted for Medicare and Social Security. The only voices of reason left in the GOP are Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins.
optmystik - Just another spoon-fed idiot who is comfortable living in his bubble of cliches. You have no idea what conservatives are like. Studies performed by left leaning organization have measured the charitible donations given by conservatives and liberals and have been shocked to find that cons give 50-100% more in charity, volunteer more of their time, and are poorer than liberals. I remember hearing the guy who did this state over and over again how he couldn't believe it. What a dope.
we also elected obama BECAUSE WE WANTED HEALTHCARE FOR ALL!!!HE IS DOING EXACTLY WHAT WE ELECTED HIM TO DO,,, THINK ABOUT IT HE RAN ON THIS HEALTHCARE FOR ALL PLATFORM,,AMERICA VOTED HIM IN THE LARGEST MANDATE IN 30 YEARS,,AMERICA WANTS THIS ,,,WE VOTED FOR IT,,THOSE THAT OPPOSE IT REPRESENT A FRINGE MINORITY VIEW,,,,

I just read in my local newspaper that 86% of Americans are satisfied with their health care. Now that 86% must cater to the 14%, most probably all illegal aliens.
I thought this country was a democracy and the majority rules. Isn't that how it's supposed to work?
It took Obama 4 or 5 months to choose a dog for his children. After 7 months in office, still no church chosen to attend. And he wants to take over 1/6 of the nation's economy in 2 months. What's wrong with this picture?
instead of taking the time to run personal attack adds against people that oppose healthcare reform why not take the time to EXPLAIN WHATS IN THE FREAKIN BILL!
Off topic, but does anyone else find it odd that the car companies go bankrupt, the gov't buys stock in them to "help them out", then starts the cash for clunkers program. Now not only are the car companies making a ton a money, but so is the government. So they are making money off being share holders and making money off taxing it as well. If they would have established this BEFORE they were about to go under, they may have made it out without the gov't "helping out". Coincidence? Doubtful.
We're getting mad at a man for building a very successful business and making a ton of money. If thats the case, why aren't we ticked at Sam Walton (Wal-Mart) and Richard and Maurice McDonald (McDonalds), they are just as rich. Our Health Care System is what needs to be fixed. It's not this guys fault. Everyone in the world that makes a successful business finds a product that will sell, and hope will sell well. Thats all this man did. Damn all the rich people in the world! Damn you Bill Gates!
Respectfully, djb0510, here's the difference: if what you are making obscene amounts of money on is infringing upon the health and well being of a citizen or citizenry, or if it's a monopoly, it needs to be regulated, or at the very least monitored. Health insurance companies make their money by denying claims. I want our country to be prosperous and have a sustainable economy but it won't happen when the simplest person can't reasonably maintain "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness".
I Really a getting sick of these low class me me me bunch of under educated GOP POS. In canada ppl out live ppl in the US by 10 years. " The most productive ppl" Business man" lol people open your eyes. This lady is the land of the people no big corp or big media...What kool-aid are you drinking.
What a distorted bunch of LIES! The truth is, if you give an excess 50 million people access to free healthcare, there won't be enough to go around. Then what--rationing and denial of care! Who will get care, and who won't? Who will decide? The legislation has some panel in Washington making these decisions. Go ahead, demonize the insurance companies. Any idiot knows that government run healthcare doesn't pass the smell test, anymore than spending more money when you have money problems.
Hmmm... let's see...I have a false dichotomy and a slippery slope, now if I just apply some tape--and there we go! The perfect argument! Didn't even need to use a single fact for the whole thing!
I wonder how countries like Canada and England can be satisfied with their healthcare despite having a smaller GDP per capita. I guess America is just too incompetent a country to have such a thing work here. What a pity.
The people in England and Canada ARE NOT satisfied with their health care. That's why they flock over here, because they can't get an appointment to see a specialist when they need it. OPEN YOUR EYES!
Wrong. Search for "health care satisfaction" on Google. Statistics show the United States ranks amongst the lowest in developed nations. Also, as a sidenote, America is most certainly not "the unhealthiest nation in the world." People in almost any poverty-stricken nation would love to trade their diseases for our obesity. But yes, it is true that most countries with some form of universally accessible healthcare are healthier than we are as a whole.
Talk about distortion, no healthcare, even the public option, is free. Go ahead, keep your private plan if you're happy with it. Feed the beast. Reform simply puts the public option out there AS A CHOICE. Yet look at the outrage we get from insurance companies! I'm not demonizing them, they simply MAKE MONEY DENYING CLAIMS and that is IMMORAL. 22,000 people died last year because of lack of insurance. Privatized healthcare has not made the system more efficient, nor Americans healthier, period.
That's a great summary marubione. Arguments like that would make for a much better, more comprehensive video than this one.
It seems a lot of those disparaging this video are just spouting republican talking points which they haven't put much thought or investigation into. A lot of people in this country really need to be educated about having better critical thinking skills rather than just rote learning.
Well said, cynoptomist (great name, is that like a pragmatic activist?)! I also think the bigger epidemic our country might have is that of the "low information voter", a group the GOP has somehow managed to convince that they (mostly rich white guys in suits who haven't seen "real work" in years, just moving money around in accounts) represent the average American. I wanted to ask homeschoolmarm if her premiums had gone up recently, and if so, what made her think they'd ever stop?
It's free to 50% of the bums who pay NO TAXES! The "public option" is a scheme to drive private options out of business. Listen to Barney Franks about this scheme. Maybe people die because it's their time to go? Insurance isn't a right, and it won't keep you healthy--America is the unhealthiest nation in the world--2/3 are OVERWEIGHT! Why do people from countries who have socialized medicine flock over to the US for treatment? Your not very informed, are you?
"a scheme to drive private options out of business":had to read that a few times and now I'm convinced you drank the Kool-Aid.What health insurance company do you work for and why would you care? If the government is so friggin' lame, how could it possibly compete with the state of the art and cost efficient care that privately insured Americans get right now?(that's a joke, btw) And why are you worried about paying for "bums"? Do you make so much(250K+) that your taxes would go up?
Obama said so himself--phase out the private insurers. If you believe that only those with incomes above $250K will be paying for this nonsense, it is YOU, marubione, that imbibed on the Kool-aid! Didn't you hear what Tax Cheat Tim Geithner and Larry Summers, Obama's economic henchmen "floated" last weekend? THERE WILL BE MIDDLE CLASS TAX HIKES. We can't sustain the level of spending + interest that Obama is driving up, so here comes the big weenie--Get an education!
Said so himself...hmmm. Give me a link, a reference and I might believe you. Could you at least be a bit more imaginative and not shove the same old tired talking points? And why do you suppose there would have to be any tax hike at all? Could it be because GW Dunderhead rolled back the upper class taxes for the last eight years? Because, oh, at $12Billion a month we are in a war he lied about to get us into? WMD anyone? I get it. You didn't vote for Obama and you hate him. Change hurts.
You see, here's the deal: I'm willing to bet you care about this country as much as I do. I've have great, lively conversations about this issue with other progressive, critically thinking people. You didn't answer one question, didn't back anything up with credible information, you hate Obama so that's the tree all your rhetoric sprouts from. Go ahead, keep your private insurance, pay those ever increasing premiums. You must have the money, so higher taxes shouldn't bother you either.
Go to Glenn Beck--Disinformation Czar video right here on YouTube. It has footage of Barack Obama himself telling of this scheme and his support for single payer (government only) health insurance. If you are so anti-war, why is your Lord Obama sending MORE, not less troops to war? You're right, I do hate him. His change hurts everyone!
You lost me at Glenn Beck. This is where you get your information and you expect to be taken seriously? Obama is sending more troops to Afghanistan, which is where they should have gone in the first place, not Iraq. And Colin Powell himself said, "The thing we learned about Vietnam is that you don't enter a conflict without a plan to get out." Of course they didn't listen to him. Too many private contracts with Haliburton and oil money to be made. "Lord Obama:? Careful, your hate is showing.
Oh Marubione, Oh Marubione, Oh My Crazy Marubione!
You are lost and gone forever,
Dreadful sorry, Marubione!
Remember this: our generation will have to apologize to our children for our debts they can never repay. Their lives will suffer because of selfish parents who feel they were entitled to something they have not earned, and did not deserve. WWII Generation has been noted as the Greatest Generation for their sacrifices during WWII. We will be the known as The Selfish Generation.
Your snarkiness is really not very becoming, homeschoolmarm--kinda reminds me of Palin. But while you're lecturing me on the values of the greatest generation, I bet I can top you, without calling you crazy. My Dad was a POW with the Japanese for 3.5 years. He saw first hand what war could do. He was tortured, survived the Death March and the Hell ships.
And I suppose, today being the anniversary of Hiroshima being bombed, it is all the more poetic that I point it out to you, because I highly doubt you have even a remote grasp of history, much less the sensibilites of the Greatest Generation. I guess my Dad probably thought his serving MEANT something like, I don't know, maybe no more WARS. But I know he was turning in his grave when a drunken frat boy went into an ill advised war.
Just as he was disgusted with the Korean Conflict (he served there too) and was heartbroken seeing young men die in Vietnam. He didn't think much of Reagan, who never served a day in his life but Reagan played the part real well, waving lots of flags. There is nothing, nothing worse than phony patriotism coupled with complete disregard for historical facts. So bring it on. I guarantee I can refrain from insulting you and still know more than you do. And in the end, that's what will win, not hate.
I appreciate your history. I too have relatives, to include my father, who served in WWII. They didn't have a very good life. They sacrificed, and didn't expect their government to provide things they didn't work for. If we taxed every American's income at 100%, we would still not be able to pay off the deficit! We can't afford this ObamaCare, the government doesn't have a program that isn't BROKE, and it will take away basic rights and choices we now have. Reagan was a TRUE AMERICAN HERO!
You throw out statements with NOTHING to back it up. The last president to balance the budget and leave office with a SURPLUS: Clinton. Only to have bush squander it and leave Obama with the mess he now has to deal with (just as Clinton was saddled by the largest deficit in our history left by Reagan and Bush I). Reagan was an actor, who originally was a Democrat--the neocon role played better, I guess. Dubya TRASHED habeas corpus AND the Geneva Convention, what basic rights has Obama discarded?
I'll be spending the day with a friend who has cancer, but I'll be sure to check back on your senseless meanderings. Classic neocon playbook. How in the world did they convince you that they had your best interests at heart? I know you are the minority, I have better hopes that our population is not mostly fueled by hate. And I will still believe that at least we have in common the fact that we both care about this country. I hoped it would spur intelligent discussion, but you are exhausting!
we also elected obama BECAUSE WE WANTED HEALTHCARE FOR ALL!!!HE IS DOING EXACTLY WHAT WE ELECTED HIM TO DO,,, THINK ABOUT IT HE RAN ON THIS HEALTHCARE FOR ALL PLATFORM,,AMERICA VOTED HIM IN THE LARGEST MANDATE IN 30 YEARS,,AMERICA WANTS THIS ,,,WE VOTED FOR IT,,THOSE THAT OPPOSE IT REPRESENT A FRINGE MINORITY VIEW,,,,
Trolls are out in force today. How much do they pay per comment, or is your insurance company going to actually treat your cancer ridden child if you post enough?
Just because people don't agree with the ad means that we're being paid by the insurance companies, right? *rolls eyes*
No one is disagreeing that health insurance is too expensive and needs reform. But there is nothing in the ad that says anything bad about health insurance. It is only pointing out that yes, the CEO of CIGNA is making a lot of money. Big deal. Most people that are CEO of large corporations make a lot of money. They are using tactics of class envy.
It's a tactic that's liberally (pun intended) being used by this administration. Scapegoat the rich and scapegoat the businessman because somehow the most productive people in our society fucked everything up?
"Rich people have so much money its their responsibility to pay for my healthcare"
obviously something needs to change with the healthcare system, perhaps some regulations on the pricegouging or regarding insurance companies dropping pateints etc., but socializing it is not the way
Private Health Care isn't very efficient on the free market. Look at the huge corporate bureaucracy you have to deal with. If people think rising costs won't affect them in future they are naive.
so what is your solution? cynicism gets us no where.
we need to force our government to give us fair and equal healthcare and then force them to run it the right way. we cannot continue to let giant healthcare corporations and their lobbyists control the people we elect to represent us.
Corporate lobbyists may control the people we elect now, but do you think that's going to stop once we have public option health care? If health care corporate lobbyists stop controlling our elected officials, then other lobbyists will replace them. It'll be the same shit all over again. Don't be so naive.
But much worse. Since now they will only have to lobby one entity and people will have no alternatives unless they are made of money or excluded from having to live under the plan such as politicians and their cronies.
Although I support health care reform, this ad is stupid. It's focusing more on how much the man's salary is. I guess the implication is he is against reform in order to protect his salary. What a lack of focus. It would have been more effective to just focus on the positives of health care reform or what can happen if we don't reform health care. Personal attack ads just aren't as effective as they used to be.
This is why we need to get rid of the insurance companies. Why are we told that gambling is bad, except when it comes to your life. Let me get this straight, I pay money to have health insurance. I win if I get so injured that my hospital bill would have been outrageous, and you are lucky if the insurance pays the whole amount. It isn't right. People should make huge sums of money off others misfortune.
I actually agree with you. This is a weak ad. Their thirty seconds would be better spent debunking the numerous egregious lies from the right that have been used to bolster their unsupportable position. If the all Americans knew the facts, all but those who favor ideology over pragmatism to an extreme degree would favor some form of universal coverage. We would probably see widespread opposition to the current bill, but only because it doesn't go nearly far enough.
You are absolutely right, sllimretrac, and it's frustrating. I wish I could see some really effective and truthful ads. But the more opposition I see to the bill as it stands, with each attempt only getting more and more desperate, only provides more evidence of how much money is at stake: to the health insurance executives and the senators that have been paid to oppose it. I've figured out that this really and truly starts with campaign finance reform: only public money for candidates.
Your solution is great for the wealthy. Costs have to be controlled or none of us will be able to afford health care. The insurance companies are evil.
Not just for the wealthy. Young people are free to choose the level of hc they want for their youth or save the money for a better pkg as they age. Older people and uninsured are covered by medicare/medicaid. Now if u try to take medicare away people freak out that means that it is providing some coverages. I dont like insur compan or the govt in charge of my hc. Thats a loss of freedom and choice. It should be in your hands what u want to do with your money. Tort reform will help--more follows
John also if u can buy monthly/weekly/daily auto/travel insur. Why cant we purchase hc insurance that way too? Cost controls are good. Caps on bureaucratic fees would help also. Have u seen the nightmare that this hc plan will create bureaucratically? Tort reform will go far special bank investment accts/hc ira wuld be an awesome product to offer, but most of all more free market choices will expand the industry and take control away from insurance companies and the govt and give it back to US.
FAiL. The republicans have a hc plan. Why would any sane person want to put the govt in charge of their healthcare-why would any sane person want insurance companies in charge of their healthcare-start your own health savings accts and take that power back from everyone.-
Funny, there seems to be a lot of sane people in every other industrialized country in the world. Oh that right, I forgot. Americans know more than any other country in the world. We are always right and we are always best. Meanwhile most of us can't afford quality health care!
U mean those sane people who live with low quality of life and rationed care. Have u seen how those other countries elderly & chronic care patients suffer? Have u touched upon the fact that only the healthy people rate their country systems as good? How are their dr/patient ratios per country? Do they travel to other countries like the US for spec care? If u cannot afford quality hc then why are u not on medicaid/medicare? Have u made use of the charitycare clinics/catholic hospitals avail to u?
Sorry, stop watching Fox News. My son has lived in Canada, having moved there from Boston and has several chronic diseases, prefers the care in Canada. I have lived in Europe, preferred the care there. Our life expectancy is lower and our cost per person is double. Our health system is in crisis. What is your solution?
JohnInDallas I have lived in a number of countries. Including Germany where the dr there did surg on my sinuses and left me handicapped. I waited 6 months to get the surg. If I would have had that surgery on time I would not have the damage I have now. My solution is personal hc savings accts. The interim for older adults can be capped out by moving uninsured to medicare/medicaid while the young ppl can invest in their own while not taking away medicare funding as this hc bill will do.
cnn, at least you are covering cannabis. why not cover cannabis & hemp together?
legalizing would make single payer health insurance cheaper! healthier society with all the hemp foods. plus less big pharma expenses with all the wonderful effects of cannabis!
The only people happy with their health insurance in the USA are those who haven't had to use it for something big yet.
50% of those with life-threatening conditions get dropped by their insurance companies.
You've got a one-in-two chance your insurance company will let you die, rather than pay to treat you -- no matter how many years you've paid premiums.
A truly free market would be one in which insurance companies have competition from a public option, keeping them honest.
I had BCBS of Tn 17 yrs @ $7500 used it once in the 17th yr the OBGYN gave me VIOXX for female cancer PAIN and then liguid Narcotics to make me go away after the OPERATION 2 weeks later they dropped me AREA was sprayed with MALATHION for 7 yrs many cancers many deformities Hole in Babies hearts
it is simple, as long as you're paying them and you are healthy you're a valuable customer ( profit ) . Once you're sick, you're a financial loss and they will do anything to dump your coverage. I don't know why people can't see this fundamental fact.
Single payer Premium free Medicare for all Big Pharma on diet Zero insurance profit No deductible & no co-pay Off the table - Just like Impeachment was?! DNC & RNC have BOTH sold out the country in order to enrich themselves. Independents agree on more than we disagree. Beware the divide and conquer. (intellectual prostitution)
The insurance industry has feed the public so many lies about health care reform that no one even knows the truth anymore. The fact is, this is a for profit industry. You find yourself sick, you are no longer a profit center so you need to be released. This happens everyday to thousands of Americans and it is sad that so many people support it. Until they are denied insurance of course, then it is a different story.
im not a republican and i dont want health care run by government.. grow some balls people. take care of yourself. stop whining and demanding free stuff. move to canada or europe if you want government care.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
actually im not. but we do need to have a free market health care system. The free market brings you the lowest prices and the best quality. its proven. what we have now, is not a free market system. government already controls a large part of the health care industry. government subsidizing medicaid forces higher prices for everyone else. If we stop subsidizing high prices, the prices will come down. You can get good cheap coverage now, as long as your healthy.
Then why is it there are 20+ countries with better health care then us? Besides, we hardly have a free market. Each of the insurance companies has decided that it's in their best interests not to compete but instead to deny as many claims as possible, drop insurers when they need them the most and most of all, keep costs high. Having single payer or a public option will keep costs down because without the profit motive the motive would be to keep costs down.
Whoa there matt, best quality? Really? Is that why blockbuster films are crap? Pop music blows, fast food is shit - South Korea won't even take our beef that's how bad the quality is. Fuel emission standards are higher in China; meaning they get more out of their gas. Banks give you lousy service. Lead gets put in toys cause it's a cheaper way to make them shine. The current health care system ranks 37th in the world. Where is the quality?
you can get a burger for a $1.. if you want quality go to a real restaurant, its called fast food for a reason. Banks are part of the Federal Reserve System, witch is a government mandated monopoly. You need to buy a toy just b/c its shiny? If the consumer wont buy a lead toy, but will buy a non-lead toy, the market will respond. Just stop buying lead toys.. Where are those numbers from? michael moore? If your successful in life, you get great care. If your not successful, you dont. sorry.
LOL at "it's proven" what a f'in moron. Another libertarian-tard who thinks if we give MORE power to corporations they will somehow charge less and stop f'ing us over.
Bwahahahaha!!! That last line was sooooo funny!!!!
Yes, that's like an automobile market in which you can get a great, cheap car but it won't take you anywhere.
Or a clothing market where you can buy lots of clothes but you can't wear them.
I mean, you don't NEED health insurance "as long as you're healthy." That's where you so-called "free-marketeers" get confused. In a truly competitive market, the insurance companies would not be able to drop you if you get sick, as they do now. Wise up!
wow. no, its like saying you dont need an expensive car if you dont need to go anywhere.
companies being forced to give care/coverage to people? thats not competition. thats tyranny. your health is your problem, not your successful neighbors who pay all the taxes for it. dont be stupid. think about it. Its not that I dont care about the uninsured. Im just looking at what has been proven to work best. - and thats a free market w/o government intervention.
child laborers still do exist... w/o so many corporate taxes (u.s. has highest in the world) there wouldnt be a great need for cheap labor. imagine cutting the size of government in half; taxes would be drastically slashed, unemployment would be near zero, the stock market would skyrocket. A govt. run economy is not a real economy. govt cant create jobs, just temporarily put ppl to work using public money.
As soon as the Democrat Congressman and Senators sign a legally binding agreement to enroll in a public option gov't health care program, I'll start listening to them defend their proposals.
they already do. All employees of the government are insured by the government. Its ironic because they all have government insurance yet aren't supporting you getting it even if it will be cheaper for you.
As soon as health care costs aren't the #1 cause of bankruptcy and as soon as insurance companies stop excluding people from getting health care because they aren't profitable I'll give a damn about what you think.

One big southern red state that is covered under the same kind of healthcare system that is being proposed, (TN, TnCare), just had a major coal ash spill last Dec/08.
Coal ash , contains toxic heavy metals like arsenic, lead and selenium that can cause cancer and neurological problems.
So in the next 10 to 20 years, they'll all be dying anyway and so will their children.
Chillax with the insults. They are millionaires from other ventures not from what they are paid in office. Some senators actually live off their government salary while others use their government influence to make money in other industries. In comparison with many professions in the private sector, yes they get paid crap.
fucking smear tactics. they are trying to bash rich people to get the fucking sheep poor people to get pissed. Next thing you know all the homeless people will join together and say that they all deserve full health care and 3 meals a day from the government, might as well make a bill for that too
"they don't tell you about how MANY english people and Canadians come to THIS COUNTRY (USA) to use our doctors and hospitals just so they can be admitted"
You do know that the bill has NOTHING to do with doctors or hospitals? It is HEALTH INSURANCE.
Insurance companies make money off insurance, hospitals make the same whether you choose to use insurance or not (take plastic surgery with common plans, they DONT NEED insurance companies to make profit and innovation).
lol... they don't tell you about how MANY english people and Canadians come to THIS COUNTRY (USA) to use our doctors and hospitals just so they can be admitted!... you are retarded if you support Obama in this ludacris...
People in the USA go to other countries for cheaper healthcare as well such as India and Thailand. Charities that usually help third world countries come here to offer healthcare (though the demand far outweighs what they can provide). What's that say about the situation in the USA?
There is NO being 'civilized' with these people and the time for turning their own tactics on them has come. Do you live in a cave? Have you not been watching the news? Do you not see what these conservative robots are chanting from the 1.4 million being paid out by insurance lobbyists a day? Wake up. Get mad. Give 'em HELL. Hate them. It's your right to do so. They do not deserve 'civilized debate'. Ever watch a child die for lack of care? Happens in this country every day.
Considering that we already aren't allowed to deny medical care to anyone who is in a life threatening situation in America right now I find that hard to believe. How about you get a job and pay for health insurance if you think its so important? Of the 47 million uninsured it is estimated 10-20 million can afford health insurance but choose not to. However you offer anyone free anything they'll jump abord, especially since the pople this plan really helps aren't going to be the ones paying.
Aye, we must not voice sentiments that resemble those of communists in any way. Envying the rich--why that's just silly!
What a burden it must be to have so much. All that stress in managing those millions.
How unpleasant to must be to receive such low deference from those lazy, poor Americans, dying from illnesses that for some bizarre reason aren't a problem in other "first world" countries.
America has the very best healthcare system. Only a filthy communist would say otherwise.
"dying from illnesses that for some bizarre reason aren't a problem in other "first world" countries". Wow the propaganda really got to you. The US is number one in preventable disease. In socialist countries, some bureaucrat decides if you should get treated or not. On top of that, if the government decides you should get treatment, you wait in queue for months (talking about high end procedures, cancer or organ transplant). Even a simple MRi visit takes months which in this country takes days.
In UHC countries they are required by law to treat all life threatening conditions as well as all conditions deemed to be real, that is having symptoms not imagined by hypochondriacs. Procedures can have long waiting periods. These are generally for surgeries and procedures for conditions that are not life threatening or severely debilitating. Something like getting braces made for mild scoliosis would be a good example.
It is time for much needed change regarding health care in this country. On my profile I have a list of ways in which you can contact your representatives including the phone numbers. Do not fall for the lies and fear tactics that seem to be coming out of the woodwork.. they are hoping we will become discouraged!
Start spreading the words people. This is the last time the repub/conservatives will mislead the American people about healthcare. They must and WILL be beaten to submission!
Agreed. Healthcare is a human right that should be given to everyone. The current system treats everyone like dollar bills rather than human beings. Even the healthiest can have a turn of fate and get caught up in this ugly mess.

When we're all living in this euphoric state of equal poverty - who pays for healthcare then?
crunchyorange 2 years ago
The point is that large companies are promising campaign contributions to politicians to vote against policies that will benefit the American people in general, & they're doing this so they can continue to gouge prices from the populace. Obama's policy counters corporate abuse through competition, similar to how unions and the illegalizing of monopolies work now. Complete laissez-faire would unfortunately leave workers and customers open to much abuse.

GOP plan?
One of their most promoted is Sen. DeMint's plan for a 5K tax credit or voucher (depending on income) for any family not covered by employer paid insurance.
Hello...30 million families x 5K x 10 years is $1.5 trillion.
Thats more than the Dems propose! And 5 K does not buy much of a family policy. What it does buy, is those high deductible high copay polices that the insurance companies call "profit centers".
What a bunch of disingenuous, politiically-driven turds!
givethemahand 2 years ago
The problem with this is democrats are just as rich as the republicans, I don't think this is a personal wealth issue.
After all, politicians from both sides get no where legislating for their own needs but instead legislating for their constituents so they can get re-elected.
US Government already spend as much per capita on healthcare as Canada, while Medicare and Medicaid already work so well, I don't blame many for not wanting to rock the boat, but the system still needs reform.
Treblaine 2 years ago
Actually of the 5 richest in congress and senate, 4 are Democrats. Congressman Darrell Issa (R-California) is the only Republican in the top 5. Historically Republicans have been more educated and more affluent, but after 2008 the title has swung to the Democratic party for the first time since 1964.
JohnRhysMusician 2 years ago
I don't know about Education, but overall, those who voted for the Democrat party in at least the last 3 elections have been from the wealthiest States. If you multiply the % of voters by each State's average income (and if this number is significant), then Democrats show an average income 20% higher than Republicans. 20% is a huge difference which implies to me that this is not a new trend.

Doubtful.
djb0510 2 years ago
We're getting mad at a man for building a very successful business and making a ton of money. If thats the case, why aren't we ticked at Sam Walton (Wal-Mart) and Richard and Maurice McDonald (McDonalds), they are just as rich. Our Health Care System is what needs to be fixed. It's not this guys fault. Everyone in the world that makes a successful business finds a product that will sell, and hope will sell well. Thats all this man did. Damn all the rich people in the world! Damn you Bill Gates!
djb0510 2 years ago
Respectfully, djb0510, here's the difference: if what you are making obscene amounts of money on is infringing upon the health and well being of a citizen or citizenry, or if it's a monopoly, it needs to be regulated, or at the very least monitored. Health insurance companies make their money by denying claims. I want our country to be prosperous and have a sustainable economy but it won't happen when the simplest person can't reasonably maintain "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness".

What a pity.

homeschoolmarm 2 years ago

A lot of people in this country really need to be educated about having better critical thinking skills rather than just rote learning.
cynoptimist 2 years ago
Well said, cynoptomist (great name, is that like a pragmatic activist?)! I also think the bigger epidemic our country might have is that of the "low information voter", a group the GOP has somehow managed to convince that they (mostly rich white guys in suits who haven't seen "real work" in years, just moving money around in accounts) represent the average American. I wanted to ask homeschoolmarm if her premiums had gone up recently, and if so, what made her think they'd ever stop?
marubione 2 years ago
It's free to 50% of the bums who pay NO TAXES! The "public option" is a scheme to drive private options out of business. Listen to Barney Franks about this scheme. Maybe people die because it's their time to go? Insurance isn't a right, and it won't keep you healthy--America is the unhealthiest nation in the world--2/3 are OVERWEIGHT! Why do people from countries who have socialized medicine flock over to the US for treatment? Your not very informed, are you?
homeschoolmarm 2 years ago
"a scheme to drive private options out of business":had to read that a few times and now I'm convinced you drank the Kool-Aid.What health insurance company do you work for and why would you care? If the government is so friggin' lame, how could it possibly compete with the state of the art and cost efficient care that privately insured Americans get right now?(that's a joke, btw) And why are you worried about paying for "bums"? Do you make so much(250K+) that your taxes would go up?
marubione 2 years ago
Obama said so himself--phase out the private insurers. If you believe that only those with incomes above $250K will be paying for this nonsense, it is YOU, marubione, that imbibed on the Kool-aid! Didn't you hear what Tax Cheat Tim Geithner and Larry Summers, Obama's economic henchmen "floated" last weekend? THERE WILL BE MIDDLE CLASS TAX HIKES. We can't sustain the level of spending + interest that Obama is driving up, so here comes the big weenie--Get an education!
homeschoolmarm 2 years ago
Said so himself...hmmm. Give me a link, a reference and I might believe you. Could you at least be a bit more imaginative and not shove the same old tired talking points? And why do you suppose there would have to be any tax hike at all? Could it be because GW Dunderhead rolled back the upper class taxes for the last eight years? Because, oh, at $12Billion a month we are in a war he lied about to get us into? WMD anyone? I get it. You didn't vote for Obama and you hate him. Change hurts.
marubione 2 years ago
You see, here's the deal: I'm willing to bet you care about this country as much as I do. I've have great, lively conversations about this issue with other progressive, critically thinking people. You didn't answer one question, didn't back anything up with credible information, you hate Obama so that's the tree all your rhetoric sprouts from. Go ahead, keep your private insurance, pay those ever increasing premiums. You must have the money, so higher taxes shouldn't bother you either.
marubione 2 years ago

I appreciate your history. I too have relatives, to include my father, who served in WWII. They didn't have a very good life. Corporate lobbyists may control the people we elect now, but do you think that's going to stop once we have public option health care? Although I support health care reform, this ad is stupid. It's focusing more on how much the man's salary is. I guess the implication is he is against reform in order to protect his salary. Personal attack ads just aren't as effective as they used to be.

This is a HORRIBLE AD! Seriously, CNN did you a favor.
DesiLinaCastillo 2 years ago
I actually agree with you. This is a weak ad. Their thirty seconds would be better spent debunking the numerous egregious lies from the right that have been used to bolster their unsupportable position. If the all Americans knew the facts, all but those who favor ideology over pragmatism to an extreme degree would favor some form of universal coverage. We would probably see widespread opposition to the current bill, but only because it doesn't go nearly far enough.
sllimretrac 2 years ago
You are absolutely right, sllimretrac, and it's frustrating. I wish I could see some really effective and truthful ads. But the more opposition I see to the bill as it stands, with each attempt only getting more and more desperate, only provides more evidence of how much money is at stake: to the health insurance executives and the senators that have been paid to oppose it. I've figured out that this really and truly starts with campaign finance reform: only public money for candidates.

No, Monkymeet is right. It's a pretty crappy ad. There are better ways to convince the average person.

Your solution is great for the wealthy. Costs have to be controlled or none of us will be able to afford health care. The insurance companies are evil.
JohnInDallas 2 years ago 2
Not just for the wealthy. Young people are free to choose the level of hc they want for their youth or save the money for a better pkg as they age. Older people and uninsured are covered by medicare/medicaid. Now if u try to take medicare away people freak out that means that it is providing some coverages. I dont like insur compan or the govt in charge of my hc. Thats a loss of freedom and choice. It should be in your hands what u want to do with your money. Tort reform will help--more follows
canditaylor68 2 years ago
John also if u can buy monthly/weekly/daily auto/travel insur. Why cant we purchase hc insurance that way too? Cost controls are good. Caps on bureaucratic fees would help also. Have u seen the nightmare that this hc plan will create bureaucratically? Tort reform will go far special bank investment accts/hc ira wuld be an awesome product to offer, but most of all more free market choices will expand the industry and take control away from insurance companies and the govt and give it back to US.
canditaylor68 2 years ago
FAiL. The republicans have a hc plan. Why would any sane person want to put the govt in charge of their healthcare-why would any sane person want insurance companies in charge of their healthcare-start your own health savings accts and take that power back from everyone.-
canditaylor68 2 years ago
Funny, there seems to be a lot of sane people in every other industrialized country in the world. Oh that right, I forgot. Americans know more than any other country in the world. We are always right and we are always best. Meanwhile most of us can't afford quality health care!
JohnInDallas 2 years ago 4
U mean those sane people who live with low quality of life and rationed care. Have u seen how those other countries elderly & chronic care patients suffer? Have u touched upon the fact that only the healthy people rate their country systems as good? How are their dr/patient ratios per country? Do they travel to other countries like the US for spec care? If u cannot afford quality hc then why are u not on medicaid/medicare? Have u made use of the charitycare clinics/catholic hospitals avail to u?
canditaylor68 2 years ago
Sorry, stop watching Fox News. My son has lived in Canada, having moved there from Boston and has several chronic diseases, prefers the care in Canada. I have lived in Europe, preferred the care there. Our life expectancy is lower and our cost per person is double. Our health system is in crisis. What is your solution?
JohnInDallas 2 years ago 4
JohnInDallas I have lived in a number of countries. Including Germany where the dr there did surg on my sinuses and left me handicapped. I waited 6 months to get the surg. If I would have had that surgery on time I would not have the damage I have now. My solution is personal hc savings accts. The interim for older adults can be capped out by moving uninsured to medicare/medicaid while the young ppl can invest in their own while not taking away medicare funding as this hc bill will do.

Yes.
it is simple, as long as you're paying them and you are healthy you're a valuable customer ( profit ) . Once you're sick, you're a financial loss and they will do anything to dump your coverage. I don't know why people can't see this fundamental fact.

The insurance industry has feed the public so many lies about health care reform that no one even knows the truth anymore. The fact is, this is a for profit industry. You find yourself sick, you are no longer a profit center so you need to be released. This happens everyday to thousands of Americans and it is sad that so many people support it. Until they are denied insurance of course, then it is a different story.

actually im not. but we do need to have a free market health care system. The free market brings you the lowest prices and the best quality. its proven. what we have now, is not a free market system. government already controls a large part of the health care industry. government subsidizing medicaid forces higher prices for everyone else. If we stop subsidizing high prices, the prices will come down. You can get good cheap coverage now, as long as your healthy.
matterweisen 2 years ago

Where is the quality?
mummbleswers 2 years ago 3
you can get a burger for a $1.. if you want quality go to a real restaurant, its called fast food for a reason. If your not successful, you dont. sorry.

Wise up!
Treebard 2 years ago 4
wow. no, its like saying you dont need an expensive car if you dont need to go anywhere.
companies being forced to give care/coverage to people? thats not competition. thats tyranny. your health is your problem, not your successful neighbors who pay all the taxes for it. dont be stupid. think about it. Its not that I dont care about the uninsured. Im just looking at what has been proven to work best. - and thats a free market w/o government intervention.
matterweisen 2 years ago
orly? free market w/o government intervention... then we would still have child laborers idiot. learn U.S. history.
rikajin 2 years ago 4
child laborers still do exist... w/o so many corporate taxes (u.s. has highest in the world) there wouldnt be a great need for cheap labor. imagine cutting the size of government in half; taxes would be drastically slashed, unemployment would be near zero, the stock market would skyrocket. A govt. run economy is not a real economy. govt cant create jobs, just temporarily put ppl to work using public money.

Here's a great irony for everyone who HATES these conservative automatons as much as I do.
Just makes me smile.

People in the USA go to other countries for cheaper healthcare as well such as India and Thailand. Charities that usually help third world countries come here to offer healthcare (though the demand far outweighs what they can provide). What's that say about the situation in the USA?
GiantTarget 2 years ago 5
I have an answer for you, Stupidfuk.
Do you know what happens when a countries ENTIRE POPULATION is covered under a national healthcare plan?
Suddenly, there are not enough licensed specialists to accomodate all the patients that flood the system, so what happens?
They actually PAY for the patients to seek specialized medicine abroad.
Like here, THIS COUNTRY (USA).
I hope YOU and EVERYONE who opposes HR 3200 gets cancer tomorrow and then go beg to your corporate masters to save you.

Only a filthy communist would say otherwise.
cynoptimist 2 years ago
"dying from illnesses that for some bizarre reason aren't a problem in other "first world" countries". Wow the propaganda really got to you. The US is number one in preventable disease. In socialist countries, some bureaucrat decides if you should get treated or not. On top of that, if the government decides you should get treatment, you wait in queue for months (talking about high end procedures, cancer or organ transplant). Even a simple MRi visit takes months which in this country takes days.
opinion56 2 years ago
In UHC countries they are required by law to treat all life threatening conditions as well as all conditions deemed to be real, that is having symptoms not imagined by hypochondriacs. Procedures can have long waiting periods. These are generally for surgeries and procedures for conditions that are not life threatening or severely debilitating. Something like getting braces made for mild scoliosis would be a good example.
