ER she is from Australia...she was probably just visiting and maybe B-17 was what she remembered after several cocktails? hahaha. But I do love this song when I heard it in australia and you know...it made me like Nashville!!!
Olivia, what bar in Nashville are we talking about? Someone should find the "B-17" in question, and smash it for her. Would that help, Olivia?Let us know.
agree with benj1969,I love her songs and I have allways said Olivia Newton John Is The most prettiest woman, and doesnt even need all those make up artist around her.
Poor Olivia! Here she is, pouring her little heart out in this song & the stupid bassist is smiling. WTF! was he stoned or something??? Please, Mr. Please, don't play B:17.
AN ARTIST NAMED "MYRZA" ALSO PERFORMES THIS CLASSIC SONG AND ALSO FROM THE 70'S AS WELL. I LIKE THE SPANISH SONG VERSION BUT I MISSED THIS SONG AND I'M GLAD I FOUND IT ON YOUTUBE AND IT'S ALSO THE 1ST TIME I HEARD THIS SONG FROM OLIVIA NEWTON JOHN. THAT'S EXCELLENT.
I like the song okay. But got to say this song has to be one of the most ironic songs of my life. lol. A long time ago when I was having a whirlwind romance with a guy who was using me as a stepping stone to get over his ex Girlfriend ( and yet I stayed even though I was painfully aware of it, but love is crazy) When I would stay the night one of his crazy roommates used to play this over and over when drunk. LOL. I used to laugh about it and i still do. reminded of an ex by a song about an ex.
@sizemeat I don't know, Markie Poste (Night Court) wore one pretty well for a season or two. But between the two Olivia was and always will be my favourite.
I read somewhere that the original lyric was, " Please nigger please get your black ass on your knees."
The record company rejected it for some reason. So much for artistic integrity. It's a shame that a recording artist has to rewright a song to pacify some record exec.
I had forgotten how country was the "in" thing during the mid-1980s and with songs like this one you can see why even Wall Street yuppies were sporting cowboy boots back then. Thanks for posting this beauty on youtube! Olivia was sensational.
When I think of the late-1970s in New York, I think of disco music and Studio 54. I think of punk rock and CBGB.
One of the hot spots, by the mid-1980s, was the Lone Star Cafe on the southeast corner of 13th Street and Fifth Avenue under a huge iguana. The place was closed in 1989 as the country music fad faded from the City.
After a Google search, I found an HBO live concert recorded in 1982, and airing in Jan 1983. It must be this show, as the song titles match this performance. This may have been commercially available on DVD at one time, from Japan.
I believe that as time goes by, there will never be a female artist I would rather listen to than Olivia Newton-John. AFAIC she is the greatest singer who has ever lived.
Great song. Great hooks. Superb vocals on my favorite Olivia Newton John song. If you don't find yourself lip synching or toe tapping to this song, you're dead! One of the all time great pop songs by one of the most endearing female pop artists ever. Nice video.
my mum sang this to me as a lullaby since i was a baby. im not a fan of olivia, but this song always makes me want to cry. because my mum sang it just as good, and with just as much heartache. and now i sing it , and ill sing it to my children.
why do you all insist on talking crap about music today, you just have to know where to look, lol...like the 90's those were the last known years i think that were original, look at the 80s though, all those hair bands sounded alike, sorry to say but you guys are prolly older (no offense) and you dont keep up with music anymore...
Wrong! I follow contemporary music as much as I can stomach it- homogenous, assembly line, mediocre crap, with some exceptions of course. I don't cling to any decade as great music. I even go back as far as classical. But other decades at least laid new groundwork. Not saying there's no talent today- clearly there is. But not much that stands out as in some other eras. There are several today I like a lot, but they're few and far between.
Amusing, I'll admit. I find him as interesting to watch as Olivia in her "girl mullett." But both are very entertaining in their own way. I remember watching BB KIng first row when his base player had an intense, "I'm gonna punch you out" look on his face. Didn't make him any less fun to watch. Quite the opposite in fact.
Ahh..An Evening with Olivia. I love this concert! Olivia's performance of all her hits from this '82 concert is the BEST. She had beautiful costumes and amazing talent. She really gave the crowd their money's worth. We just don't have singers or performers like this anymore in this day and age of cheap and shallow talent. (like anything out of american idol or the top 10 list nowadays).
this isss my talent show song

Who else would like to punch the bassist? He's almost as bad as the keyboardist on "a little more love", Jeff Foxworthy.

Please me Please , Let Me Be There and If You Love Me Let Me Know were written by John Rostill , the bassist with the British group The Shadows .
Sadly John Rostill was killed in 1973 at the age of 31 when he was electrocuted in his home recording studio.
