long live the 80s for 80s are for ever for 80s the only way to live no 80s no life 80s rock this tune is the shit the bomb its not old school its my school and school back jack
This sounds like one of those generic songs played over the credits on a typical 80s action movie. Sounds very throw-away... As if he went to a a major songwriter, bought one of their boilerplate standards and then hired a bunch f session musicians, trusting in his celebrity profile to make it a hit.
Wow, he can really hit those high notes with power. I'm surprised. He doesn't have a lot of feeling in his voice but had he been a full time singer he coulda been great. Dweezils guitar playing is technically okay but completely lacks tone. It sounds like he's playing thru a solid state amp. The electronic drums lack feeling and way too much verb. Catchy song that could have been great.
@maripocita37 : I totally agree with you dude, this song is half a good song, but what kills it is the Tinny and Low Budget Production, I've heard a lot of great 80s songs with synth drums that are actually good because of solid and crisp Production but this is a song with a lot of potential that was unfortunatley given Mediocre Production.
@CRITTERBUSTERS@asiaball I'm glad you said that. It sounds like something recorded in a home studio when it could have been great. Those drums kill it for me. Don Johnson sounds like he can actually sing and I like the melody. He needs an Sm7b and fiberglass reflectors to give his very good singing voice definition. I hate the guitar sound so much yet Dweezil evolved into an excellent guitarist. See Zappa does Zappa. Here it sounded like they verbed everything.
in the 80s, if you were on tv, you had to have a music vid. don johnson, philip michael thomas, eddie murphy, bruce willis, patrick swayze....etc. seems silly nw, but back then, the m in mtv stood for music, and it was all the rage still.
Estimated friend, if you want to listen again this song and an endless number of successes of the love I suggest you to visit Radio MUSICA PARA MIMOS - looks for his direction URL in Google ( search Musica para Mimos in Google)-. best romantic music of all the times in Internet, is great, is very good ...!!!
OMG where's my ear plugs:D..he might have had the sexy 5pm stubble look back in the day but he sure could'nt sing for toffee...well i guess you cant have it all i suppose :)
@1Heretic Back when it came out it was so bad you had to laugh. Yet another actor buried under tinny studio effects was trying to sing for some side cash, while Dweezil Zappa was trying to imitate Richie Sambora.
@trappedinlafayette you're an idiot. Maybe that word might be too good for you. Have you ever seen Miami Vice or his TV movies? i can't not say this, so i am sorry in advance to insult someones mom, but, considering this album was NAMED heartbeat, and both the album and many songs from the album were at the top of the charts for a VERY long time in the eighties......your mom has to be a little fluffy upstairs or english is her second language.
@Bunnycatlikes It's amazing you can be be "sorry" to insult my mom yet feel it nessesary anyway.I made an innocent comment about what she thought she heard and you don't even KNOW her. P.S. @Bunnycatlikes THANK YOU!!! It means alot to me you can admit when you've messed up and I accept your apology completely!!! Thank you for the kind words and I take back that you're a jerk because a jerk would never apologize as eloquently as you have...Sincerely Anthony
Omg!! This is hilarious!! Why did he do this??My mom used to think he was singing "I'm looking for a hobby"!! Actually that would have made more sense...
@Anthony420542 Thanks so much, man... I'm crying here, I'm laughing so hard. I'll never hear it as anything but "I'm lookin' for a hobby" for the rest of my life. LOL. That's awesome.
@Fluffyfluffyhead The beat is tight. This band is new with each other, but they sound like they are gelling quite well. No single talent is over-featured here. Don's voice is pretty good. The bass player is playing a good bass line. Overall, the track accomplishes what a good pop song is supposed to: bring elements that are easily accessed and make one want to hear the track repeatedly. Good pop songs have simple, catchy melodies and beats. I like the large drum sound of the mid-eighties.
The track is overproduced, and a little cold, but that was the sound of the era. I'd love to hear the track remixed to bring more warmth and sonic realism. I love progressive metal, so this song is no comparison to the performances you hear on those type of records (except for Dweezil), so I don't compare songs like that. This is a tasty piece of candy churned out by corporatists to make a buck. Simple market economics tell us that if u fail to give the consumer a agreeable experience, u fail.
The songs punchy, hard rhythm with a strong emphasis on the beat, coupled with hard rock textures is what most appeal to me. Don's voice is great, but I'm left feeling it doesn't fit into the soundscape created by the musicians/engineers/producers perfectly. The only problem is that Don is crooning too much. He needs more grunt, scream, howl and vocal "attitude" to unhinge things a little bit. In the vid he kinda almost has the necessary swag, but he can't seem to quite get it.

Back In those days, men were men & each to his own style. Each had his own style. oh and the women were women too. It was about fun, style, experiment, freedom of expression. 80s were a great time of freedom & power of voice!!!
Don Johnson, what a man. I didn't even know he sang. I only knew him from Miami Vice but now I think he's gonna be one of the people I'll follow up on now ^^
one heartbeat didnt beat like mine did. it was too cold.

Squeezing her wrist to bruising point
Lewdly propositioning her

The jury's decision was unanimous: singing this song means the death penalty.

80s were a time of a freedom of expressions. So many different styles of rock & other genres came out. It was about experimenting & having fun
