  • Seriously, if you want to debate politics go somewhere else, i watch sitcoms to laugh, i get enough of the rest on the NEWS. PS i don't care about anyone else political opinion, and i don't expect you to care about mine.

  • Ron Swanson would love Scott Walker <3

  • I'm 16 and I demand to have more challenging jobs!! Being a busboy, thats child's play. I want to work in a coal mine.

  • like a boss at 9

    pure legend

  • Children should be working so they'll get off my lawn.

  • now we know where Newt Gingrich stole all of his ideas from

  • Ron Swanson for President people

  • definite gingrich supporter lol

  • @livelovepotter nope Ron Paul lol libertarian

  • what is this show called?

  • @emilogostilo01 Parks & Recreation. Best show in decades!

  • LOVE this show!!

  • Ron Swanson dislikes this video because he believes that youtube videos about him are ruining this country.

  • Youtube.com - where armchair politicians voice their irrelevant opinions by commenting on a comedy clip

  • A wise man.

  • Your all idiots. I didn't know what political party to be a part of, but when I heard about "libertarians" from Ron Swanson, I found my place.

  • @Trashcansam123

Did Ron Swanson really introduce you to libertarianism?

That's awesome. Good for you, man,

  • @FromMuToYou Yes actaully but not sure if sarcastic (as i can't hear your voice) or if interested..........

  • @Trashcansam123

Personally, I think it's great how a comedy show is actually bringing some people around to libertarianism. :-D

  • @KyleSkullz Better than the comedy news that brought people to fasci - I mean, socialism....

  • Anyone that comes to this clip and doesn't laugh then click the next selection is an idiot.

  • Come for Ron Swanson quotes, find people arguing about politics. facepalm.jpg

  • Am I the only one who knows that this is a comedy? Lighten up people.

  • I as a liberal. A Extreme-Left liberal, a lefter then left, love Ron Fucking Swanson.

  • @Mozilla345

    You mean socialist

  • @Mozilla345

    Liberalism isn't left wing..

You have your definitions messed up.

    Liberalism = small government

  • @LanteanKnight I think he was trying to say that he is a social liberal

  • @Vanodi

That's contradictory. You mean social democrat.

  • @LanteanKnight Yeah he kinda messed up that sentence :P but I still think he means that he is a social liberal considering that he said that he begun by saying "As a liberal bla blah blah"

  • @Vanodi

I meant that liberalism and socialism are contradictory:

    1. Socialism: the redistribution of capital in favor of the working class through a peaceful transition

This means big government; they take over capital (companies)

Socialist states are totalitarian, they control and provide everything in one's life

    2. Liberalism: individual liberty as the highest value

This means small government; it doesn't or hardly interfere: night watchman state

They are the complete opposite of each other

  • @LanteanKnight You don't seem to realise that there are different variants of ideologies and other ideas than just pure liberalism and pure socialism. Go to wikipedia and search for Social liberalism and you will see an ideology which is quite common in Europe.

  • @Vanodi

I do realise that, but what most people don't realise is that they misuse certain terms.

In America liberalism has become some sort of weak socialism and true liberals have to call themselves libertarians.

  • @LanteanKnight No you did clearly not understand what I meant until I told you to google it. He didn't say that he was a true liberal he said that he was a liberal inspired by leftwing politics. In a better way of saying it: social liberal.

  • @Vanodi

I haven't googled it yet; I am familiar with the term.

No you're not getting it; there's no such thing as a left-wing liberal.

Socialism and liberalism are each others opposites; people are misusing the terms.

  • @LanteanKnight Oh my god are you stupid? I've told you to google it because then you will understand, but you refuse and try to argue with me without knowing what you're talking about. Ignorant, that is what you are. Please, do yourself a favour: look "social liberalism" up and shut up.

  • @Vanodi

I know what god damn social liberalism is...

Are you stupid? I'm arguing that people misuse the word liberal!

I study political science, thank you very much..

  • @LanteanKnight "Social liberalism is the belief that liberalism should include social justice. It differs from classical liberalism in that it believes the legitimate role of the state includes addressing economic and social issues. [...]

In Europe, social liberal parties tend to be small or medium-sized centrist and center-left parties."

This is what I've been trying to tell you, but we might have missunderstood eachother. I study political science aswell, thank you very much... :p

  • @Mozilla345 ...to be a leftist...is to be arrogant...to the failures the leftist ideology has done to this world ...like communism and Public schools....

  • Ron Swanson makes me so happy to be a libertarian

  • @BigDaddyDJD Right there with you!

  • Child labor laws ARE ruining this country!

  • This is PNR, not The O'Reilly Factor...

  • To the libertarian commentators: you guys are aware that Ron Swanson, um, works for the government, right?

  • @barnsynobel its better to have people who hate the govt working for the govt then people who love the govt....because then you have the Soviet Union

  • @TheJasonDR Actually if you have people who love the government working for the government, you get Leslie Knope.

  • @barnsynobel ...lol..and then you have social security....you know the program...that is going to collapse...soon...their are so many Leslie Knopes....and they occupy the democratic party...usually in smaller governments....for example...most cities in the U.S...have democratic mayors even in republican states...those are the Leslies...but the Ron Swanson represents the republican party....and their fear of change...and she represents the democrats ..its weird but its almost perfect

  • I like how the logic of Parks and Recreation is completely different from the logic of The Office.

  • I basically agree with Ron Swanson about everything but I still like fish and veggies. People who rely on Govt totally suck!

  • @deathrattlesports Yes, people who are mooches suck. But how about people who are down on their luck and, thanks to an economy out of their control, just can't find a job and can't afford to pay to get retrained...unless the government helps them get retrained? Or how about the veterans who fought in WW2 or the Vietnam War or the Korean War? Or how about the scientists who put men on the moon and rely on government to produce research without the need to produce profit?

  • That's really handy, you have a giant list of rationalizations for why you'll never demand accountability from the government. Whatever helps you sleep at night, bro.

  • @experimentationalist Oh no, I never said that people who are mooches are ok. Wasn't my first line that mooches suck? Any transfer of funds, even most defense funding appropriation, by the government to people who deserve it should be done with 1. high transparency, so we can all see where it is going and 2. investigation into its effectiveness (is it going to the right people, is it actually helping, etc).

  • @experimentationalist I've never been a proponent of massive, murky government. What I want is a government that is efficiently run and transparent: the American people can see where the money is going and know that either it is 1. helping people who are actually in need (the guy/gal who lost their job/house because it got outsourced/screwed by deregulated banks), 2. going to good science or 3. going to good investment.

  • @experimentationalist Government is flawed. Yes. But it seems like most "libertarians" and Tea Partyers want to give up on it instead of trying to work with colleagues to fix it - make it efficient and transparent instead of trying to eliminate education and science research programs which will put us even further behind China on rate of tech innovation or eliminating affordable, universal health care (which every developed country can have AND spend less on health care over all...weird).

  • Except that virtually no proponents of large government actually *do* anything to try to make the government more efficient and more transparent. The US federal government is less efficient, more wasteful, and arguably less transparent than it has ever been: how does that actually change the way *you* vote? My guess is that it doesn't (and if it does you're in a very small minority) you just ignore it and keep voting in people who want to drastically expand its size and augment its authority.

  • @experimentationalist Campaign finance reform laws? The Recovery . gov website? Writing to complain about Meredith Baker's (former FCC chariman, R) subsequent landing of a cushy lobbyist position after rushing through the merger of a service provider (Comcast) and content provider (NBC)? Keeping up with reports by the Congressional Accounting and Budget office?

  • @experimentationalist Also, I vote in people with good ideas. You're saying that I vote blindly but I would have HAPPILY voted for McCain at the time had he stuck to his original, more moderate conservative values. I would HAPPILY vote for a Republican if they came to the table presenting realistic ideas like raising taxes and cutting some programs because 1. the magical era of enormous economic growth thanks to Bush era tax cuts never game and 2. cutting across research and education is stupid.

  • @experimentationalist So, seriously, stop putting words in my mouth. You're an ultra-libertarian but I don't assume that you're a Tea Partier, that you support slavery, that you're racist and a xenophobe, that you SAY you're all for the Constitution but, in reality, you're not all that educated about the Constitution, that you're militantly Christian, that you're homophobic, that you think that child labor is okay and that you think that companies dumping waste into drinking water is a good idea

  • @experimentationalist Also, you're not offering actual any solutions. I want solutions to make government work. And I want continual solutions to make government better. Leaner, meaner but it takes care of its own via assisted living and healthcare, education and funding the basic science research that private companies won't fund. I'm all for privatizing some things - making NASA contract out low atmosphere orbital flight for example to companies like SpaceX.

  • @Gilgamesh417 Life should be a risk. Sink or swim. No lifeboats unless you've made friends.

  • @deathrattlesports i make friends with science mutafucka

  • I hear the jury's still out on science.

  • @deathrattlesports Or how about the people in the state of Alaska? The most heavily federally subsidized state in the US? Or how about you when ever you drive on the interstate? And the people who work hard but can't afford the money for health insurance because, I don't know, they only make $40,000 or they are scrimping and saving to open up their own business? Or all the tech start ups that need government funds for risky but potentially very profitable ventures?

  • Yesterday I met an ultra libertarian who thinks that "Ron Swanson introduces some serious reflexions on politics and economics" in this comedy series. For real. Does that scare you? It scares me.

  • As an ultra libertarian it kinda makes my day. Thanks :)

  • @experimentationalist Glad I made your day, are you gonna fly off to Haiti or Somalia to celebrate? They seem to be flourishing without any pesky "gubment" intervention and the latter even has a flourishing private enterprise specializing in naval aprehensions.

  • Anarchy =/= libertarianism. In the future, educating yourself on a subject before you speak so judgmentally about it will help you keep yourself from appearing ignorant. That's my advice, but you can take it or leave it - it's a free country, after all =P

  • @experimentationalist Anarchy has a broad scope, ultra-libertarianism being the type that proposes a market anarchy by eroding public institutions and pushing for deregulation, in which the state survives only through its penal and/or military institutions. It's a free country indeed, and your freedom to embrace even self-destructive beliefs is sacred to me, don't expect me not to fight them through vote and debate though.

  • Suggesting that a person should move to a nation where there is no solid rule of law because that nation *happens* to have little business regulation is an argument totally lacking in intellectual justification.

And libertarians ensure the degradation of freedom? It's funny how you can believe totally nonsensical things like that. I wish I could borrow your brain for a day just to see what it's like to experience the world through your eyes. It must be quite an experience.

  • @experimentationalist That's exactly what the communists say, they also mean well but are also oblivious to the social implications of what they propose. One extreme proposes a state that controls everything, the other a state that controls nothing. They lead to same result. But at least we can find some common ground in our admiration of the Ron Swanson character, even if it's for completely different reasons.

  • @experimentationalist Sure libertarians ensure the degradation of freedom - but a very certain type of freedom. Ever heard of Citizens United? It's a decision, supported by the Tea Party and it erodes democracy by making possible unlimited donations by corporations to political candidates because the money = speech. Or how about the freedom of people to organize into unions in order to bargain collectively? You know, because teachers get crap pay and no respect but shape the future?

  • @experimentationalist Typical statist misrepresentation of libertarianism. Hong Kong, Tiawan, and Singapore all have minimal business regulation and are extremely prosperous.

  • I'm sorry, I misunderstood your comment. My bad.

  • @experimentationalist I'm sorry, I misunderstood your comment. My bad.

  • @experimentationalist There are some people with extremist views who think everything should be nationalized and the state should plan and distribute all the economy for the common good, on the opposite side there are the other extremists who think market laissez faire and individual inititive somehow ensure a fairer and more prosperous society. I don't doubt that most people in these radical movements mean well, but these extremes only ensure the degradation of freedom and developed societies.

  • @An0nEeMouse YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHh

  • actually, what most people dont realize is that child labor laws WERE hurting this country at the time they were enacted.

At that time, the farm work that children typically did was MORE dangerous than the factory work that they started doing during the industrial revolution. Now, mind you, at our country's CURRENT levels of wealth, children would never be doing the sorts of unsafe tasks they were doing in the early 1900's. HOWEVER, at the time, it was the best option AVAILABLE.

  • Don,t joke we republicans are coming after child labor laws, unions, 40 hour work week, but most of all we will kill and end social security. And like a government printing trillions of dollars of unbacked currency for its friends we will end welfare state soon. No way to stop it the flood gates have begun to be open. (Wisconsin)

  • @jobedied

    Not sure if troll

But if not. I want to know if you live in wisconsin ? I mean I lived 18yrs of my life there and can tell you people are pissed because our state is progress and has a history. Something goes on 50yrs you don't just throw it out. Not all unions are good but bosses aren't saints either. WI doesn't want to be Texas or the South or the uber liberal Cali coast or urban NY. Just let us upper midwest types be. Also the army(me), is a mini welfare state in itself.

  • @Davitofrito no Im with you I believe the extreme point I was communicating is the truth and there is a strong political element in this country that is extremely anti human. I would not say such seeming extreme things if I did not feel the profit pirates really want to recreate a close to slave state again. The energy to use ,degrade, enslave other humans is in force in many places on this planet now. The idea that this greed is not latent in our political system now is naive
