  • Reminds me of Hüsker Dü and fIREHOSE stuff from the 80's. I like it. It lacks a bit of syncopation and swing, but it has THAT edge that makes for a good listen.

  • @jazztitch RE: nothing happening. Why are you back? You aren't ready. I checked out your videos. Excruciating. You're a basement soloist, not the smartest person in the room like you want to be. I'm trying to let you in on the joke buddy. Get out of your house, move to New York, find people to play with, play a gig every night for ten years and THEN come back and listen. Maybe nobody will want to play with you yet, but don't get discouraged or distracted - keep working. Don't dismiss teamwork.

  • fun experimental stuff. i like the punk/rock chunky riff without shred histrionics, then that hypnotic slightly sour motif towards the end, is oddlly evocative. kinda reminds me of new york fusion scene

  • The sound of nothing happening, for a very, very long time. Oh, except art.

  • This is some of the greatest music I've ever heard....the nuances, the power and the simplicity... it just speaks to my very soul with those low chords. This is beauty with an edge

  • they are good musicians but I don't understand the way of their music...sometimes musician should think that music is for people not for them...

  • its not about how complex or difficult a piece of music is, its about how much soul the musicians are able to incorporate. Although complexity might be a point of interest for manys, I think that music becomes exiting once it surprises us and once the musicians play it from their heart

  • Black is special, in a good way, ha!

  • This is the kind of stuff that keeps me wanting to play more and more!

It just sounds amazing and fresh to me.

I don't care if they are playing difficult or easy, jazz or rock or punk or whatever.

Musicians have to understand that in the moment they are thinking about following any style or being different or innovative they just finished making music.

    Music is emotion!!!

  • this stuff is so awesome hahha! RAW POWER!!!

  • Ok, I must admit my interest in music is proportional to the amount, complexity and variety of musical information it contains. That's why I got into jazz. Though I still love 70/80s rock, I found in jazz from bebop to fusion energy plus content. I realise your agenda may be different and discount complexity, but I fail to see how a well-versed musician can be satisfied with the rudimentary melody, harmony and rhythm of this piece. It sounds like an indie rock band with sax in place of voice.

  • @jazztitch ... so what? It's good music with emotions. I also like wide variety of music and styles.... and I love this stuff :)

  • @jazztitch Often intermediate and advanced amateurs cloak their lack of tone and musicality with in-your-face complexity and variety. I love how the masters can take a simple idea and milk the heck out of it, sounding rudimentary to the layman, while rewarding the professional musician with a depth of tone, subtle complexity, and precise time and dynamics that can only be achieved by extensive playing and gigging. Suggestion: keep investigating -- don't be satisfied with 'failing to see'.

  • @jazztitch

The simplicity is the whole answer dude.... that's what makes this so awesome

  • @jazztitch -- I would know because it's my band :) They are my friends for over 25 years. Dude, c'mon, I would only respond to a comment if it sounded beyond ignorant. No offense intended, but you are way off base here. I do appreciate any and all dialog about any music though. Best new year!

  • @malamutation yeah jim!

  • I'm afraid you're all wrong. But what would you know?

  • jazztitch, it's music- you LISTEN to it. That's all. Sverrisson plays music he loves, pretty simple- which would include Holdsworth as well. Imagine the musicians are playing this music because they WANT to play it. No one's trying to "get over", and they're certainly not on a mission to "advance" anything or trying to be "experimental".

But your projections give a good insight into what you "listen" for....

  • No, playing jazz-pop - this is hardly experimental. It's derivative, recreationist - a bit of punk, bit of country, simple diatonic structures. No advance here.

  • @jazztitch Can I live in your alternate reality where this is "jazz-pop"?? Even better, this is "jazz-pop" that commands big money? Sounds good to me! Skuli could have chosen a MUCH more comfortable/lucrative career playing tired 80's-90's fusion, but chose to follow a more personal path with his closest friends and musical partners. A true hero and inspiration.

  • @jazztitch it's an aesthetic advance... what else have you heard that sounds like this?

  • @jazztitch Are you suggesting Sverisson is playing experimental jazz-post-rock fusion for the cash?

  • unbelievable!!!!

  • fantastic!!!!

  • me likey!

  • WOW! that was fantasmagorical!!! :D

but i reckon it sounds a lot like post rock. anyone else think so?

  • @derrynator agreed.
