This is how I interpret the ending: She didnt kill herself because she was tormented by the nightmares, she killed herself because she wanted to escape reality. She liked her nightmares,(even if they were scary at first), because she met so many friends like monoko and masada. Thats also why I think she kept going to bed, and not going outside. :D

I have dreams similar to her's all the time, and yes they are terrifying ( I even keep a dream journal on me for good measure),I think people assume that the game is just a really effed up version of Alice in Wonderland and take for granted how nightmarish everything really is.

I was so surprised that out of all the games I've played, Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy series, Gun Grave, Silent Hill series, and the Devil May Cry series, none of them stirred me emotionally but Yume Nikki made me cry. Half the 'people' don't knowledge you. Its lonely, even Uboa doesn't care to notice you. I could really see her being scared at first but then saying "notice me, please notice me" before going into a fit and killing him. It must of been so fucked up for her, that even these hellish nightmares happening around her are going about as they don't even notice her. @TheAmazingMomo Actually the song is about the death of a young person (child), and although the lyrics never unambiguously indicate suicide, the lines about "longing for the sky" ("sora ni akogarete") and the child looking at the sky from a high window ("takai ano mado de") right before hi/r death ("shinu mae"), strongly hint at the possibility of autodefenestration/jumping suicide (the other possibility being death in a hospital room on one of the higher floors).

My way of saying this is that Madotsuki was a lonely girl who had eery memories. She lived in a building and stayed there for days because she was unhappy and deppressed. One day she woke up and found the outside of her room filled with doors. She went through all the doors and had special powers...and when she finished her dreams, she relized the depressing things that happened in her past...then looked over the balcony...took a deep breath, imagining all the beauty...and jumped...

I love this. It almost made me cry. Though she killed herself in the end, now she's with her friends. The only friends she knows--the ones of her dreams. I love how they're accepting her with open arms and everything...she seems happy to see them again. They're happy to see her. It's such a bittersweet ending and really makes you think. She was such an interesting character. At least she's in a better place now. RIP, Madotsuki. <3
