Hi, regards from Patagonia, Chile this is Bob CE-8-EYS could you tell me how do you like the VX8R ? I want to get the VX8DR to be used in the "line of duty" as I´m a Mountain Guide here in Patagonia.
It is inspiring, thanks for sharing your life with us. I've been thinking about doing this for a while. When I make more money I would love to learn amateur radio!
It would be very helpful if you did some ham radio for dummies type videos that explained basic concepts like the equipment and even stuff like how people get their call signs or radio names.
Ok Doc, you've almost got me convinced to get my ticket again. I held a Technician level license but let it expire sometime around 2003. I seem to be interested in many of the same hobbies as you: woodworking, photography, guns. All expensive hobbies.
My grandfather is still extremely into HAM radio... he really tried to get me into it when I was a teenager...and of course, like many male teenagers, I turned him down as ... well... as teenagers might. Of course NOW I wish I had learned a little more than finding out that having a bazooka doesn't really mean the same thing in all arena's of life. sigh......young and stupid. LOL!
Dood it must be rainin' cats and dogs! Sounds like you're inside a kettle drum. Drive safe on your way to Utah Doc. Looking forward to the coming videos.
@mustangtyson - I will be checking that out. I did post a video where I hit the Mt Hood Timberline repeater from my home which is direct line of sight using the elevation of the painter pole mast. The mag mount of course will be a bit different.
Keep the rubber on the road and the antenna in the air.
Keep the dirty side down and the clean side up.

@gibsongod123 - easy enough to do as I'm a "HAM Dummy" (new one at that!). Consider it done!

@gibsongod123 +1 I like hearing the technical jargon, it would be even cooler if I understood it!

How far away can you be from the repeater and transmit with the VX8-R and the mag mount?

@ayres390 - radio equipment vid coming . . . need to clear these events first . . . it all boils down to time ;-)
USNERDOC 1 year ago
@ayres390 - understood! Actually the video camera is mounted and I just let it run and then edit to the good stuff later in the hotel room.
