  • Andy, I could listen to you teach me crochet techniques all day.

  • Thank you for the great video :)

Makes it look easy. Also good idea to only start with six stitches to practice.

  • Thank you for the informative videos.

What's the difference between the double ended hook and the regular afghan hook ?

I want to teach myself but I bought a regular afghan hook 13 inches.

What can you do with the double ended hook ?

I'm confused, craftyAndy, aiutami, per piacere

    From your "sunshine" Ravelry friend

    Khadijah

  • The double ended hook is called a "Cro-Hook" and it is used with 2 skeins/hanks of yarn. It seems to work like each row you can alternate yarn, so you can make a reversible garment The afghan hook it longer (if you're working a big garment you'll have lots of loops on at once) and also it typically has an end so that the loops won't fall off.

Personally, I think it is more important to have an afghan hook than a cro-hook.

  • Thanks for your help !

  • @wifechadly Watch this video in a new windowDouble Ended Tunisian Crochet Hook

  • thank you! I tried doing this but I knew I was doing something wrong and now I know what.

now, to go buy an afghan hook!

  • Thank you very much for showing how to crochet the Tunisian Crochet....

    I do have a question...

I looked everywhere can't seem to find the crochet hook that you are showing..

Can you please let me know so I can buy one.

    Again Thank you

  • These are caled the Easy Tunisian Crochet Hooks, Joann, Mary Maxim Ebay and even your local yarn store!

  • I live in Canada... I looked at all the stores you listed. None of them have it...

    Even looked at their website...

I am going to make my own out of a branch of something...

    Again thank you very much...

  • I had a hard time find a tunisian hook myself, but then I live in Italy. I only found the thinner ones. A number 5 was the biggest I could find.

Where do you live? Hope you found one after all

  • O yes I found. You can't believe the places I found. Dolar stores, Vintage places, garage stores and so on. I have like over 10 tunisian crochet hooks now. As soon as I see one I buy it rite away...

Thank you very much for thinking about me:)

  • thank you very much!!you help me a lot! :D and i love your video!

  • Thank you, sir!, saludos desde España

  • what does it mean to block your work. I was watching somone else video and they said that you could block your work

  • The polish look of blocked garments add to their shape and professional appearance. Even yarns marked "no blocking needed" benefit from this treatment.

Wet blocking means you immerse a garment in water, pinning it to a blocking board. Drying it to size.

In Dry blocking the item dry when you pin it into shape. You add moisture in one of several ways. Spray evenly with a spray bottle, or pass a steam iron over it, not on it from 6 to 8 inches to avoid felting , unless you desire tha.

  • could you please show me how to add a color to this i'm making a baby blanket. i would like to add a color thanks so much.

  • Remember to be careful about judging any style, it it works for you go for it and have fun. People get caught up in must , ought to, should and forget to have fun with a hobby. Elizabeth Zimmermann/Meg Swansen are the greatest examples of Craftying and Having fun. I am having fun and am an amateur video producer. Having FUN all The way!

  • in school were learning how to crochet.were gonna make blankets for homeless.my teacher let me borrow a book and i saw this so i tried it but it didnt come out.Until i watched this video.!!!!!!!!!!!thnx alot!!

  • Thank you thank you thank you!

  • wonderful job, thank you

  • thank you so much for making this video. I'd love to see more about the tunisian stitch. you made mention of a different type of tunisian stitch called "knitted" style? I'd love to see you demonstrate that. You are a true yarn artist. :) Thank you again.

  • i learned differently in a different video on youtube. still a good vid tho

  • That's the nature of using a plastic hook that size. No matter your tension, you'll hear your crochet as the fabric is made.

  • Would n't you know the Tunisian Crochet POlice caught me lol! Thanks for your posting, it is a demostration as you just pointed out. WHy haven't you posted any videos teaching how it is done properly! I encourage you to do so! Thanks for stopping by!

  • I am "hooked" on this...love the pun...

  • That's a good one bozomahoney!!!

  • your method of casting on is extremely time-consuming and was not at all how i was taught as a teenager. I chain 200 in under a minute.

  • Well since I taught myself and I don't know you , I can see how it can be different. Wow you do 200 chains a minute, you must be very fast. Have you entered any Competitions? SO after you make 200 Chains what does it do for you?

  • LOL...i just threw out that number, but yes I'm very fast...I bought some 100% cotton and made 3 dish cloths in about 2 hours with your tunisian technique, but changed the pattern to only "grab" the vertical post instead of going straight through while working right to left; I saw this on another video and it works out nicely. Knitting dish cloths is ugly, but this tunisian crochet is absolutely beautiful and would make a gorgeous summer purse. Saskatchewan, Canada !

  • Id love to see a video of you chaining, I admit this does look more awkward but I think its simply how the yarn is held.

  • Most definitely it is how the yard is held; once you have 2 or 3 chains made, you hold on to the chains with your left hand as the wool smoothly glides over your left 2nd digit...I'll see what I can do for a video, but I am extremely busy; sewing, building a model airplane, crocheting, knitting, painting the house, playing guitar and hosting a retirement part today; it's just crazy around here....but I bring it all on myself I guess.

  • I am a 60 yr old gransmother and I am missing something in your video. I start out with 6 loops on my hook but ends up with 5 and there tight. Can you please help granny?:)what am i doing wrong? Thanks

  • The likely culprit of your missing stitch is usually at the end, most times we all miss the last stitch . If they are very tight is because you need to relax your tension. Try a bigger hook and see if that does the trick

  • From: BOZOMAHONEY...I forgot to tell you that the reason why your casting on method is slow is because you are "yarning over" with your left hand and should be flicking your right wrist to grab the yarn; that's what the "hook" on the needle is for. Give it a shot.

  • GREAT ... I DID IT!!!!! THANK YOU!!!!

  • How cool is that! I tried tunisean crochet with thread, my first, and last time, LOL! Now, after seeing this, I want to try yarn! (drooling at your yarn)

  • Let me see what I can do in my Tunisian Crochet Series , a great Idea color changes, I have done it before. Thanks for the support!

  • Thanks for the reply. I'm trying to do the Tunisian Graph Afghan. I'm not getting the color change right. I learn better by watching then reading.

    Thanks

    David

  • Hi Andy,
