Sounds interesting! I tried a Pepsi drink from Japan called Azuki! red bean flavour of course! Shiso must be a very Japan centric thing! I've never tried it, I'll just have to hope it turns up in import stores

@LarryTheTubaBoy - Errr... No. It's quite different. It's one of the most distinct flavours in Japanese cooking. As she said, it's sometimes called "Japanese basil." It doesn't taste like basil either. There's red shiso and green shiso, and they taste virtually the same. You should try it some time. Anyway, the Japanese for mint is "minto."

The Coopers Pale Ale at the start is a nice choice, it would have tasted better!

I also thought the pepsi shiso cola was not great - but it does not taste as bad as fresh shiso! I always pull any shiso out of my nigiri.

I feel taste of shiso is overpowering, in similar way to coriander (cilantro).

There have been several crappy-tasting Pepsi flavours over here too. The one I remember best was called Crystal Pepsi. It was a clear soda (looked like Sprite or 7-Up), but was meant to taste like a cola (why someone thought that it was important to make a cola that was clear is a mystery). The best way I can describe the taste is to say it was like Pepsi that had gone flat, so it kinda tasted like it was old. Obviously, it didnt taste good, and it didnt sell for very long. ;-p
