thanks for uploading this soothing melody ,i am re-living my past twenty five years , first time i heard this song in 80's. thanks a lot from the heart.

Music can't get any better. Voice full of emotions and the singing so sublime. I wonder what western composers like Mozart whould have thought, had they heard it. Perhaps, a new realization of what melody really means.
@ribandarcho Every culture's music has different things to offer. If you look in Mozart's oeuvre for the amaing melodic sophistication of Khayaal, you may be missing the point. Western music, especially by Mozart's time, had become harmonically sophisticated -- something you don't find much of in Indian music. They're both beautiful - in different ways. The more you listen without comparing and ranking, the more beauty you will hear.
@waupelani My apologies. My comment was based on listening to these genres for a long time and I am an avid fan of western classical music . I was thinking of what a western composer would make of indian melodic structure. Incidently, one of the high school math projects that I mentored was titled ' Lack of harmonic chord patterns in North Indian classical music'. The student won the first prize at state level. I sincierly hope that I did'nt do dis- service to Indian music by mentoring her.
@ribandarcho Oh, apologies not necessary. You are absolutely right, Khayaal lacks harmonic complexity. But I think it's more productive to think of it as rooted in a very different logic, and so the question of lack does not arise. If we speak of "lack" then from an Indian perspective, western classical "lacks" microtones (and tempering of the klavier was a horribly destructive act), performers "lack" creative freedom, etc. But these are not deficiencies because Bach and Chopin created beauty.
@ribandarcho I’m sure you did ICM no disservice. Everyone knows there are no harmonic chord patterns in ICM: It's like "lack of parrots in the Arctic".
I realy loved this beautiful composition .indeed she is great vocalist its pleasure listening her compositions

Munshiman....how do you have so much information about who is on the tabla and on the sarangi. Thankyou so much.
i have always wondered who they must be or what year was this thumri recorded. The sarangi is just superb.
To say anything about how great kishori tai's Bhairavi renedition is, would be showing a diya to he the sun.
