I think that "Why you need windows?" is wrong question. The right question is "What I need?" and when you know what do you need than you can choose best solution [not talking just about choosing os] and you can live happy.
@codeblacksmith, MS is a Monopoly, and in time I think Android OS is about to hit on computers..There is testing on this already. it is partially an open source program. I think the OS is open source.
So far ene though it is slow one can even build and HD video and render it on an Android unit using 800 MHZ processor, you can even load additional software that will run HD video.
I think Id Android hits PC, It would open up a great deal or competitiveness between all Platforms including Linux.
All the software I've used to study CCNA so far I can find and run on my Linux machine. Installation is sometimes a little tedious but it's nice to spend time learning new things.
To be honest i agree.. we dont need windows we have all these OS's that we could perfectly use just like windows, only thing we struggle with is our own human like or dislike, like me im on windows 7 and all i do on the compu is gaming if there was a software for gaming. hell yeah id upgrade to that. But it matters what you like and what you want.

There are a lot of programs that only support Windows. Majority of those programs are business orientated. The college I work at just bought some Macs, you know what they did to those Macs? Install Windows 7 on them, they haven't even used Mac OSX for any work other than to load up BootCamp. The only other OS I could see myself using would be Linux, but even then I wouldn't as my experience with Linux has been terrible in the past.
The part that was a review and not you trying to cover your ass was good but because I disliked the majority of said ass covering I will dislike video. I never understood this whole Mac or PC is better war. I use Android, Linux, Mac, and Windows all on a regular basis and can say they all have their strengths and weaknesses.

One reason why I don't use apple - Gaming, that is a given, and I don't think that the windows platform has more game companies producing games for it because more people own machines running windows. Ease of development is one major reason and the second is the other reason why I don't use MACs - Apple is borderline treasonous. Standardization and control of product lines for "interoperability" is unAmerican. It flies in the face of a free market construct.

Funny that OSX is so restricted, in yet its made partly from BSDs. I doubt you could run wine to play Games on it. But, than again you need the right Mac specs to love playing hardcore games.
I'd consider Mac Server, a real computer, but than again is it on my top priority to spend 2500 to 3000 on a Computer that may require Windows or Linux to play hardcore titles. Not me, that I know.
@CrewRite WINE is fine but it's still a Windows API. Hence you're technically still in NEED of Windows. It just doesn't make sense to buy anything but a PC with Windows if you want high quality games. OSX is getting there, more and more titles are being released for it but it's a long long way off. I tried Win 8.... It was the worst OS I've ever used. Not that it was buggy or slow or anything, it actually performs well.
The whole idea of having Aero and Metro side by side is STUPID. It's so retarded and clunky. It switches between them CONSTANTLY. It makes you sick after a while. So annoying!
And Metro itself is worthless for the most part. Although it might get better before the release. But I doubt it. That won't change the dumbest part of Windows 8. Which is not dumping the old.
On regards to the Windows 8 tile feature, you should know that it is an overlay and believe it or not, Aero is still running..
Look at how far technology has progressed in the last couple of years, soon the touchscreen functionality will be a normal feature. Tiles will be revolutionary, and this is a great sign showing that Microsoft are looking ahead.
Also please keep in mind that behind the tile feature there is a lot of new developments, you'll eat your words once Windows 8 is released.

@1zacster You realise you can just close the overlay and the Aero style is still there, right? But this way when you get a touchscreen monitor 2 years down the line when new technology becomes cheaper and more integrated Windows is already ahead of the pack. Or if you currently own a touch screen (like many workplaces do), the tiles interface is fantastic for showing weather and quick links to news websites.
Behind that one tile feature however, the system has been improved dramatically.

Both operating systems are good. Each complements the other does not and I still do not understand why rivalries continue. I have a macbook pro and I have a PC. In my macbook pro I have a particon with windows, I need it because I study computer science. In my work I can perform thousands of tasks such as computer technician and network administrator, network technician and so on. The Mac OSX only use it to edit some video in Final Cut and Motion 5 that I like those programs. be fan is not good.

I find that the experience with Office, which cost me around 100$, is just plain better than what I get from docs. I also have the ability to use it offline. There are also some games that I play on Windows that are only on Windows.

I am likely to stick with Windows 7 as I am not ready to purchase another operating system. I need Windows for blu-ray alone (HTPC) among other things. I would have to have a reason not to use Windows, might as well use a system that can do everything I want and need.

There are a lot of programs that only support Windows. Majority of those programs are business orientated. The college I work at just bought some Macs, you know what they did to those Macs? Install Windows 7 on them, they haven't even used Mac OSX for any work other than to load up BootCamp. The only other OS I could see myself using would be Linux, but even then I wouldn't as my experience with Linux has been terrible in the past.

One reason why I don't use apple - Gaming, that is a given, and I don't think that the windows platform has more game companies producing games for it because more people own machines running windows. Ease of development is one major reason and the second is the other reason why I don't use MACs - Apple is borderline treasonous. Standardization and control of product lines for "interoperability" is unAmerican. It flies in the face of a free market construct.

Funny that OSX is so restricted, in yet its made partly from BSDs. I doubt you could run wine to play Games on it. But, than again you need the right Mac specs to love playing hardcore games.
I'd consider Mac Server, a real computer, but than again is it on my top priority to spend 2500 to 3000 on a Computer that may require Windows or Linux to play hardcore titles. Not me, that I know.

I tried Win 8.... It was the worst OS I've ever used. Not that it was buggy or slow or anything, it actually performs well.
The whole idea of having Aero and Metro side by side is STUPID. It's so retarded and clunky. It switches between them CONSTANTLY. It makes you sick after a while. So annoying!
And Metro itself is worthless for the most part. Although it might get better before the release. But I doubt it. That won't change the dumbest part of Windows 8. Which is not dumping the old.

On regards to the Windows 8 tile feature, you should know that it is an overlay and believe it or not, Aero is still running..
Look at how far technology has progressed in the last couple of years, soon the touchscreen functionality will be a normal feature. Tiles will be revolutionary, and this is a great sign showing that Microsoft are looking ahead.
Also please keep in mind that behind the tile feature there is a lot of new developments, you'll eat your words once Windows 8 is released.

@1zacster You realise you can just close the overlay and the Aero style is still there, right? But this way when you get a touchscreen monitor 2 years down the line when new technology becomes cheaper and more integrated Windows is already ahead of the pack. Or if you currently own a touch screen (like many workplaces do), the tiles interface is fantastic for showing weather and quick links to news websites.
Behind that one tile feature however, the system has been improved dramatically.

I am likely to stick with Windows 7 as I am not ready to purchase another operating system. I need Windows for blu-ray alone (HTPC) among other things. I would have to have a reason not to use Windows, might as well use a system that can do everything I want and need.

@TheAppleOwns Possible the majority could use any system based on their needs, I myself cannot, too many tasks I do are Windows based and no other system will do. There is also no good reason for many not to use Windows.

I'm a power user and a gamer so windows 8 doesn't appeal to me. I don't have a touch screen monitor, nor do I like screen real estate being taken up when it doesn't need to be, especially while I'm in a full screen 3D video game.

As a long time WIndows user thinking about switching to Mac, I can see your point. A mac can do the same thing Windows can do and then some. Plus it runs OSX and Windows without any tinkering. It just works.

Lol, there is no law that states that except in the eula, it says that it can run on a computer "branded" by apple. I could just stick a sticker on it.
Besides, apple doesn't care anymore since there are way too many people that already hackintoshed their computers as long as you don't sell it.

Without Windows, all 3DS Max users would be out of a job. Thats a fairly large community of 3D artists that need Windows, not to mention the other Windows only software from Autodesk.
