Kakashi's chidori was his attempt at making a Rasengan, but since he was only of lightning nature, it came out differently. Now all of a sudden, he and Konahamaru know it. I can see why Konahamaru, but man...they just had to give it to Kakashi.

As such, in order to offset it, he designates a clone to do one task, while he does the other (clone adds rotational force and directioning, he adds chakra and confines it, and later on in the series, a 3rd clone adds Wind Chakra)
