This was the one part of the film that I didn't like, I didn't like how the mother danced with Selena and left the other daughter out to sit on the sidelines, it just felt like a false note to me.

No she said "Selena" meaning she was talking to Selena, then she talked about the dance, looked at SELENA asked HER if she wanted to learn and grabbed HER hand.

If she was talking to everyone she wouldn't have addressed Selena only, she would have said "Hey girls,etc.".

Even if she said, "Selena, do you hear that music?" when the father started talking about dancing "The Washing Machine" Marcela started talking to all of them. Selena danced with her, but Marcela showed ALL of them how to dance Cumbia. It's not like Suzette & Chris couldn't say "show me too". Besides the name of the band is "Selena and The Guys" so naturally she should learn to dance--Chris played guitar and Suzette played the drums.
