@DreamstoneX They are balls-hard JRPGs, usually about the struggle between mortals, angels, and demons. The angels are Lawful Neutral/ Lawful Evil and the demons are Chaotic Neutral/Chaotic Evil. You generally get to choose which philosophy wins out in the end, or to reject them all. In this game in particular, the game STARTS with the world ending and you being turned into a half-demon, or "Demi-Fiend". This game is EXTREMELY difficult. But in a fair way.
I say, somebody certainly must be rump ravished (not to mention posterior pained) about either shin megami tensei or your videos, judging by all the thumbs down.
wow i feel like im in a garage band when i hear this song, lol. when i practise on the drums i usually listen to this song while im doing so. it gives me awesome rhythem xD
yea all the smt series are possibly i would say the best rpgs around since it gets rid of the same old routine of a group of teens trying to save the world for some real badass story telling
Best turn-based RPG avaiable for ps2 if you aren't one of those idiots who only like RPGs with "pairings", anime-style characters and clichéd pukable story.
Or in my case, after playing P3 scrambling to pick up the rest of the SMT games they missed and realizing a lot of awesome titles slipped under their radar.
Don't be ridiculous. Persona is just the gateway drug that gets people hooked on the others.
I started with Persona 1 back in the day, but most of my SMT-loving friends started with P3 or P4. They all tried DDS/SMT/Raidou/Whatever after beating them, and all but one of them loved those games too.
Just because a game brings an obscure series to a wider audience doesn't mean you can get off making a generalisation that splits its fanbase in two.
Funny, everyone says that Persona is the entry level SMT game. I found it the other way round. I started with Lucifer's Call, usually referred to as one of the more hardcore and difficult of them all, and lastly I discovered Persona which I was reluctant to play being somewhat of an animephobe. If it weren't for Lucifer's Call I don't think I would have given Persona a chance. It was the game that showed me that not all JRPG's are fore mongols.
Not so much a re-awakening as an altogether awakening. I had never played an rpg that wasn't asinine nonsense until I discovered SMT. I love every SMT game equally, and P3-4 are so hard to compare. I think if you twist my arm I'd have to say P3; it had a better main character, a better soundtrack and a better ending. Although P4 had better gameplay, and it's themes, style and characters were equally good. Depends whether you prefer games to be upbeat or a bit dark.
I think I have to choose P4, myself. I like the music and characters better, but that aside, there were changes to the way it plays that i'd consider real improvements. Obvious things like being able to give your allies direct commands aside, I just felt there was more to do during the daytime portions, the dungeon system was better constructed, and they made better use of your personal trait levels.
So how's Nocturne? I'm guessing I'll like it if I like SMT1/DDS? Do I need to have played SMT2?
Yeah, they're both great games. As is Nocturne. You don't need to have played the previous SMT's as it's entirely self contained. It's very dark and bleak (world ends, your friends start going insane) and it's very hard so expect to die... a lot! But that's what I like about it. It was complex in it's themes and had a unique minimalist feel (plus DANTE!). It took Nocturne for me to give P3 a chance and if I hadn't played P3, the intro of P4 alone would have scared me away.
Haha it was the OST for me. Then i looked at the wall papers from this game and saw jack frost which i knew from Persona 1. Then i did some research and was able to connect the games. I was surprised o_o
have no idea what these games are about but this music is awesome enough to make me interested :)

That made me lol xD Its true though. SMT are split into pre Persona 3 fans who like all the games and Post persona 3 fans who only play P3, P4.

Ah, yeah! The SMT games sure are a nice re-awakening to the JRPG genre if you're sick and tired of hand-holding pseudo-fantasy.
As someone who doesn't like/care about anime, do you prefer persona 3 or 4? Just out of interest.

It's more like Pokémon is a childish and dumbed down version of Megami Tensei, since it came first...

@Casparatis it's ironic since you have to save it right?

@Crok425 Well you sort of don't. You can just leave it the way it is if you want to. Also it sort of depends what you mean by "save".
