I recall having a VERY large roman candle as a kid. The instructions said to "bury half way into the ground or in a bucket of sand.." The instructions didn't say WHAT half to bury. I just scratched a trench in the ground and laid it on it's side and buried the RIGHT half in dirt. When it went off it send fireballs bouncing across the ground like a runaway train. Every place the fireballs bounced it started a grass fire. Scorched about half my parents yard and torched a rose bush.

I got a better one. My father had a three foot long ceramic drain tile, a pipe made from flower-pot material. He used it to drain the water from our window wells. We had been throwing regular firecrackers in it. The echo it made was like a cannon. If a firecracker was cool an M-80 cherry bomb would be even cooler! I swear to it was raining bits of pottery for 30 yards in every direction! So fricking loud it set off car alarms 200 yrd away. My dad never was more pissed at me in my entire life!
