i finally decided to remove 2 pins from the back, just to get some practice with it. mine came keyed with only one spool, in the front #1 spot.
i'm easily able to get it into false set, but when i work the serrated spool, while lessening the tension i'm hitting a block! the pin moves up, and my wrench lessens, then it gives- both the pin slide into place, and i feel the wrench snap back into tension.
however, it won't unlock!!! i can't figure why! sent u a pm.
the biggest help every for me on americans like the 1105 was the top of the keyway tension wrench. Also very light tension and you can feel the serations click . Thanks for another great tut now do one on the 234B45 im stuck =)
i swear by that leverage wiz,, it,s so important on these lox!! once you get your head round it you gain the upper hand over what is indeed a very tricky lock..5s
im in the same boat as you bro im trying to pick the american 1100 custom pind by wiz him self i have got it a few times but no enough to get it on cam
Wiz - i picked my 1100 sent to me by pickgun/hallis - i couldnt of done it without you , wasnt as slick as your demo but .. i picked it.. im well happy thanks a million...
i even went to the shop for my missis for a loaf of bread !! if i had your number i would of rang on the way i was so pleased - lol thanks again
great tutorial wiz, i was having a lot of problems with the american locks, so i made my own hook out of a southord pick handle and pop, i had the right leverigde like you just explained.. i got the 5300 series picked on video.. i was so proud;0).
haha, i got one of these today and i got it first try out of the packaging. definitely a fun lock though.

Dear Wiz:
Saw u use a large tension tool for the American 1105. Do u think a larger tension wrench is better than a smaller one?
I still have not opened the 1105 yet, but your comments will help.
Thanx

great vid man 5* do you recommend using top of the key way tension?
reidgk 2 years ago
that's what works best for American locks..=)
thanks for watching.
wizwazzle 2 years ago
cool is that because it allows for more pressure with the pick on the pins?
reidgk 2 years ago
no.
it applys torque from a more central location, giving much better feedback, while allowing
more room to work in the keyway
wizwazzle 2 years ago
ok sweet thanks for the help man great vid

fer sure..=)
