I think it's good I can play it in time and everything and I'm only 13 but I can't use my thumb I'm still working on that r u slapping it for all the notes besides the opening chord it would be helpful I knew thnx
That was FAT, bro! I'm with U in what you say about playin' loose...have the feel, U got the feel! Everything don't have to be note for note perfect; it's got the Blyss groove on it & that's good!
I hope my bass player & me can get this tune down so we can play it! THX!
Hey bro, thank - glad you liked it. If you're interested in one on one lessons, please hit me up via skype. My screen name is sonofabass504. Thanks again, Peace.
Nice video and slant on the technique. I am a huge Marcus fan and play a Fender P/J still learning after 32 years as well. I'm also in the Bay area. D.O.C. Mercy, or Kudgebass
Awesome interpretation and a cool attitude, relaxed approach is great, video angle is good too, can see everything you are doing. Thanks for sharing this.
Good job Blyss! I'm a pretty good player, but I don't slap or pop (well very little). I think I'll start here...
I also like how you don't want to sound like MM. Guys spend big bucks and years trying to be MM clones. It's always cool to be yourself as a player...
no no no amigo . TAB is just not a good thing. I appreciate you asking but this is a pretty detailed video I think. In my humble opinion I think that it takes less time to learn how to read actual notation and you'll benefit more by making yourself more 'useful' to other situations by being able to read standard notation. Ok - I'm off my soap-box ;-)
Sounding great and you probly mastered it by now. And definitely identify about relaxing. By using as little force as necessary to produce a given sound, and letting the amp do the work - it really helps overall speed no matter what technique in use.
Hey man..I as well as others appreciate you passin the knowledge. It's a Good thing ya do. To be honest, I've never heard this song till today and when i get home (I'm at work), I'm going to put your techniques to the task and see how fast I can come up with this. Thanks again man. I'll post a video response when i make some progress!!!!
is it your gear, or is just the way you play the double thumb that makes it sound so good ? i just cant get that same tone, when i try the double thumb "stuff" ;p
what are you using for pickups in that 5501? are they stock mk1's or Nordstrand Fat Stack or DC pickups? Because most 5501s dont sound that nice. i guess it could be the amp too...
thsnkd, first off. Those are actually MK1s. I think - it's been a while since I did that, that I was running through my aguilar rig..much to my neighbors displeasure I'm sure :-)
i hear an ambulance i think you gave someone a funkattack. < that sounded funnier in my head. oh well... thanks for the video blyss this is really helping me.
OH yeah, I ate banana splits the other night b4 bed and my wife learned the meaning of dutch oven....lol. ok, I'm stop there. I was quite, ahem, gassy
You're underestimating your playing and your ability to teach... even as an informal lesson this is a fantastic example... very clear and also your performance of the song is very solid as well.
Dude, ya know what, I thought you did great. I think that you broke down the riff as it should be. When played in tempo I think you got it right. So ya know what, good job on it. Funk out man.
I appreciate your honest and open approach. I`ve never really tried to cop any of marcus` techniques before but i`ll give it my best shot. Cheers again!

Great stuff man. I've been working on this song as well and I'm self taught so its taking me a while to try and figure out what exactly Marcus is doing but you sound really close to his stuff. Thanks for posting!!!
wow...thats ridiculous, esp doing that on a 5 string...i can barely play it on a 4 lol, thanks for the vid, time to go show off what i learned at sam ash!
thanks!!! Unfortunately, maybe fortunately, I don't "do" tab for a couple of reasons. 1: it does nothing at all for your ear or how one comprehends harmony, theory and technique. 2.You will probably never get handed a sheet of tab to read in a professional setting.
Follow you ear, trust your gut and......oh, nevermind, I'm just trying to be way too damned philosophical! lol
Good comments on the double thumb, yep, it takes all day, and then a few more days to get such techniques hehe. Folks need to hear that type of stuff though.

hey thanks! Let's see if that lakky sounds as good when I put the aguilar pre in it. the stock one took a big CRAP on me this weekend in the middle of a LOUD church service (Thank God it was loud - no pun intended! so it covered up that massive hum) . I trouble shot everything but nothing. Oppurtunity to see woh the Aguilar works out before I finish my custom project I'm working on . ok, that was way more than you asked for, sorry. lol
