  • @BleuboxTV Troy Lampkins?! Now that's a mighty big compliment coming from such a monster player like yourself!! Thanks!

  • U my friend are fantastic.. I appreciate someone trying to emulate a playing style.. its very hard too d and you pull it of Very well :)

  • @bowelrock thanks a bunch. this video is quite old (I don't even have that bass anymore) it's nice to know people still dig it. thank you

  • This is, at least one of the best, if no THE best, tutorial I've seen, because of the approach.

I think I'll get working on this HUGE challenge for me because I think maybe I can do it from watching this. Now time for part 2.

  • That was FAT, bro! I'm with U in what you say about playin' loose...have the feel, U got the feel! Everything don't have to be note for note perfect; it's got the Blyss groove on it & that's good!

I hope my bass player & me can get this tune down so we can play it! THX!

Thanks man - great instruction... Much appreciation... Cheers & THanks again... Fantastic!!!

  • Awesome!

  • Hey Blyss,

Nice video and slant on the technique. I am a huge Marcus fan and play a Fender P/J still learning after 32 years as well. I'm also in the Bay area. D.O.C. Mercy, or Kudgebass

  • right on man, I appreciate the comment!

  • I know other people have said it, but props for this vid!

  • Good playing, good vid,you come across very genuine. If you had a head you could do tv.

    cheers.

  • lol. I was actually living around the corner from a trauma center at the time.

  • Cool video ! Thanks for sharing. I also liked a lot your approach to the playing and also your interpretation of the song.

  • Awesome interpretation and a cool attitude, relaxed approach is great, video angle is good too, can see everything you are doing. Thanks for sharing this.

  • That's awesome. Thanks you . Glad you enjoyed! happy Holidays!

  • Good job Blyss! I'm a pretty good player, but I don't slap or pop (well very little). I think I'll start here...

I also like how you don't want to sound like MM. Guys spend big bucks and years trying to be MM clones. It's always cool to be yourself as a player...

    Thanks

  • is there some way you can put a tab up or something???

  • no no no amigo . TAB is just not a good thing. I appreciate you asking but this is a pretty detailed video I think. In my humble opinion I think that it takes less time to learn how to read actual notation and you'll benefit more by making yourself more 'useful' to other situations by being able to read standard notation. Ok - I'm off my soap-box ;-)

  • ok man thanks btw =]

  • cool. I hope I didnt sound like an asshole with that little rant - twasn't my intention

  • o no lol its fine hahaha

    you helped a lot!!!

  • nice lakland

  • I learn today this. I want to say.. that i have done, thanks. Apologize for my english :DD

  • is that a lakland

  • Great video and great attitude man. I love the casual approach

  • cara voce e muito bom toca muito,,i`am barsileiro

  • you hav d funk

  • nuff respect 2 you man i like your kindness

and your playin is great thx for sharing

  • Hope you don't mind the question...but,

What chorus or effect are you using? Sound good.

  • Hey Sorry I'm just seeing this message. Actually I wasn't using any effects on this clip

  • Thanks!

  • Quite definitive, individualistic approach! Good stuff! 5er.

  • Sounding great and you probly mastered it by now. And definitely identify about relaxing. By using as little force as necessary to produce a given sound, and letting the amp do the work - it really helps overall speed no matter what technique in use.

  • the typical sounds of the bay area at 1:55! haha thanks for the lesson man! you are great

  • french excused. great video

  • Dude, thank you so much man I really have been dying to learn this and this really helped, thank you.

    Thank you very much.....the argentina!

queria decirte que gracias a tu video pude tocar power de amrcus miller, muchas garcias

  • you're killin me ! lol all's good amigo. thanks!

  • lol. um, thanks! I always wondered how cool "fuck" was :-)

  • AWESOME! As soon as the night turn into day, I will sit down with this vid and learn the song.

  • yo, what strings do you use, they sounds pretty good?

  • those were DR's at the time.

  • I have a set of DR's but i have the High Beams. Just wondering what you might have had.

  • Dunlop

  • uh! run! the police!

    it`s a joke! great lesson!

    thanks a lot!

  • they were comin for me! "Hey - turn that crap down!!!" lol

  • Hey man..I as well as others appreciate you passin the knowledge. It's a Good thing ya do. To be honest, I've never heard this song till today and when i get home (I'm at work), I'm going to put your techniques to the task and see how fast I can come up with this. Thanks again man. I'll post a video response when i make some progress!!!!

  • nice

  • I know I've thanked you before. But seriously this video is a major help for me!

  • do you know how to play marcus millers scoop?

  • Police Sirens in the bay area???? naaaaaaah. lol jk. Good job.

  • cheers mate, got some inventive ideas there!

  • is it your gear, or is just the way you play the double thumb that makes it sound so good ? i just cant get that same tone, when i try the double thumb "stuff" ;p

  • I honestly don't know. tone is like the quest for fire, ain't it? it is for me :-) I was just rollin with it I guess.

  • dude can you show how to play it on a 4 string bass?

  • what are you using for pickups in that 5501? are they stock mk1's or Nordstrand Fat Stack or DC pickups? Because most 5501s dont sound that nice. i guess it could be the amp too...

  • thsnkd, first off. Those are actually MK1s. I think - it's been a while since I did that, that I was running through my aguilar rig..much to my neighbors displeasure I'm sure :-)

  • You are a Humble - Mellow - Fellow stay cool!!!!

  • hey man, how do you have you eq settings to get that tone? i can never get a decent tone for this song...

    cheers bro

  • man, wow, it's been so long since I did that I couldn't tell you. sorry.

PROBABLY though I had the bass (on the guitar) cranked full, treble about midway and mids flat.

  • you rock

    New Orleans pride

  • right on! thanks - you from new orleans also?

  • hi very cool, what kind of strings do you use? are they extra light?

  • Very cool! thanks alot!

  • Thank you helped a ton. Plus i love the sound of your bass, what kind?

  • looks like a Lakland 55-01???

  • is that fast hard part possible without double thumbing?

  • I don't think so

  • crap, well, then it finally get's time to learn that technique, i dont like it but for this song everything

  • Great Video :)

    This REALLY helped me.

    Thanks :)

Your Bass has a beautiful sound off it :)

  • lol. "funk attack" - I live around a trauma center. ended up there myself once after a motorcycle accident.

The real funk starts after banana splits before bed....just ask my wife!

  • hahahaha woah there. im sure it does.

  • uh oh, I'm confused. :-/ you're sure what does? lol. I'm slow

  • hahaha nevermind. i think i may be confused on your meaning of "The real funk starts after banana splits before bed....just ask my wife!"

  • OH yeah, I ate banana splits the other night b4 bed and my wife learned the meaning of dutch oven....lol. ok, I'm stop there. I was quite, ahem, gassy

  • oh okay... thatssss what you meant ;] haha

  • Nice work dude, nice structure too for learners.

  • awesome ,awesome groove!!!thanks

  • nice playing and thanks for the help.

Question, what kind of bass are you using?

  • no prob. thats a lakland 5501

  • You're underestimating your playing and your ability to teach... even as an informal lesson this is a fantastic example... very clear and also your performance of the song is very solid as well.

  • i think marlowedk heard you..lol..he just posted it..those danes can play!

  • man dude! you are the shhhh!

  • THANKS BUT ...NOT EVEN. not even

  • That was great...is there any way to show your fans how to play "teen town" by Jaco?

  • lol...you might just have to check with Marlow on that one! He's by far one of that best resource ANYWHERE on the web. I love that guy!

  • omg

  • what string gauges do you use bro?

  • that's great dude, I couldnt do it any better. I nice to see it broken down.

  • was a great job. do you have more videos?

  • I certainly can see that. Good point.

  • im not sure what to do after the pentatonic run

  • i thank you so much for showing us how to play power.

  • nice video, where's your face???

  • are u being chased by the police during this whole thing?

  • lol, for a CHANGe I WAS not being chased by the cops. I live around the corner from a Trauma Center....hence the sirens.

  • Cool video, and nice initials argumments.

  • Thanks for the vid, this really helped me on that pesky descending riff at the beginning.

Oh and I dig the lakland. How is it working for you?

  • good teaching style, dude. i'm not a big slap bass player, but if you managed to teach me to do a decent version, i'm all up for recommending you. keep it up, i'll be sure to check out any other posts you've done. cheers!

  • thank you Mr Fast Eddie Cooper sir!

  • Thanks for posting.. I like your approach

  • thanks...

you really helped me a lot...

    you´re a great bassist

  • Great stuff man. I've been working on this song as well and I'm self taught so its taking me a while to try and figure out what exactly Marcus is doing but you sound really close to his stuff. Thanks for posting!!!

  • Very good video. Thanks for postin' it for us.

  • Great player and teacher. Thanks :)

  • thanks!! much appreciated. Enjoy the rest of the weekend.

  • Thanks!!

  • wow...thats ridiculous, esp doing that on a 5 string...i can barely play it on a 4 lol, thanks for the vid, time to go show off what i learned at sam ash!

  • Thanks man! Saved to favorites!

  • thanks!!! Unfortunately, maybe fortunately, I don't "do" tab for a couple of reasons. 1: it does nothing at all for your ear or how one comprehends harmony, theory and technique. 2.You will probably never get handed a sheet of tab to read in a professional setting.

Follow you ear, trust your gut and......oh, nevermind, I'm just trying to be way too damned philosophical! lol

    Thanks again!!!

    B

  • Good comments on the double thumb, yep, it takes all day, and then a few more days to get such techniques hehe. Folks need to hear that type of stuff though.

Good comments on the relax, then you have more energy to play longer/more/enjoy it

I am always humbled hearing other folks.

  • Hey! Great lessons, broken down at a good speed for beginners! Many thanks you de man!

  • Thanks a lot Blyss ace playing mate

  • thank you much!

  • your lakland sounds great !!

Nice vid dude !! And cool bass palyer indeed !

  • hey thanks! Let's see if that lakky sounds as good when I put the aguilar pre in it. the stock one took a big CRAP on me this weekend in the middle of a LOUD church service (Thank God it was loud - no pun intended! so it covered up that massive hum) . I trouble shot everything but nothing. Oppurtunity to see woh the Aguilar works out before I finish my custom project I'm working on . ok, that was way more than you asked for, sorry. lol

  • hey man what kinda bass you usin?

  • Awesome! Greetings from Peru!!! Thx 4 the lesson!

  • a lot of people can play this song, but not all of them can teach this...u are the special one.(u can play and teach;))

  • lol - I live around the corner from a trauma center. I kid you not.
