Nice giglog again. I've got a question about your vertical trussing. The baseplate looks like it's 20cm(8inch) around the truss. That seems like not much to stop a 2m truss from tilting. It also seems easy to move, unless you 'glued' the baseplate to the floor. If someone stumbles against the truss doesn't it tilt or move on the floor? Or is there an invisible weight under the uplighing-fixture? I like the idea of a covered truss on the dancefloor, but I have my concerns about stability. Thanks
damn nice venue haha here in london the venue would end up getting burgled =[ really wanna come out to aus sometime lol
if you wanna keep your units down seriously id use the led mystics, wicked LED Moonflowers can get some serious coverage with just 2 units and they are soo cheap as well
It seems to me that all that gear the venue had was just some install job and then the 'lighting OP' was just some guy who knew the power up sequence and how to chuck the console into a auto mode. That Dry Ice would have cost them a fair bit as well. and Why are there lasers???? they are only good when you have smoke/Haze in the air (btw Haze is so much better just tryed my new HZ-400) From the shakey shots of the heads i saw they look like cheap chinese things to me, and chinese revo's
..How old was this dude who did lighting 12..also what RMS is ya sub and it depends how ya set the sub each gig..i did it in the conner one day and the sound bounced off and it was only on 1..also in a bigger room..i would have used 15'' and mayby a bigger sub or even two? Just to get that bass out
I run my amps with the gain all the way up. This allows for the amps to have the available headroom (if needed) for the more bassy stuff. At concerts they run their amp with the volume all the way up (wide open) and adjust individual levels from the board.
sometimes when I do smaller events I put my tops at 2 oclock to even them out with the sub, so its not to over powering, but my sub is always all the way up no matter what. try it, you shouldnt get a clip light
I have also noticed that the ksub limiter comes on at low settings, although the volume (to my taste) was quite loud enough. I backed it off and it sounded good for the room
Spring? lolz @ "DUDE IN THE CORNER". I feel you on "cheezy" lighting. Im sick of moon flowers, and will be converting to moving heads, wash lights, and lasers. So the venue made the money for selling them the light show? do you think you could have convinced them to go for your light show instead, and scooped the venue for that? it looks like they set it on auto-pilot. why have all of that lighting and not turn down the house lights? great gig as usual johnny! see ya @ MBLV 11.
@BOBBYBLENDZ ye i tried to talk em into uplighting at the start and they liked it , but when i did the site inspection , saw all the lights , and the venue management could hardly speak english , it was to hard to explain to the venue what i was doing and what i wanted , so i just backed down , and yes was on auto pilot
Great big wedding John - Wish you were at my party.... The DJ was shit... he ended up pissed by the end of the night and kept dancing with all the guests! Then the bastard made a pass at my wife and ended up sleeping with her!
@A1partydjs oooo ... i feel dumb hahahahahaha My best friend / dj mentor used to tell me stories about bets on which bridesmaid they would take home that night (of course that was in the late 80s) :)
Great Vid... Just wanted to comment on the KSub. I started out with just one Ksub and had the same problem you had with it peaking. Hell I just went out and got another one and I haven't seen it peak since. The QSC's work much better with 2 subs. I love them and I'm always getting complements on how great the sound is. When it comes to gain control you start at the mixer then subs and the tops. Keep up the good work DJ Rob. (smile)
Gud'ay john i was always taught that once you start with gains on base bins keep it at 3 o clock and as you increase the volume slowly bring down the gain it normaly works at around 12 or 1 o clock with the volume on level 8..
only joined ur happy crew lately, love watchin ur gig logs alway interesting & fun. uve really polished ur gear up. All the best, lookin forward to the nxt.
@A1partydjs if anything i should thank you. O and tell the person operating those lights that if he does it again, i will walk all the way from canada to throw seal blubber on all of his windows!
John - you got to go and find the light switch and turn the lights off during dancing!! I always always do that or have my assistant do it... I NEVER trust the hall people to do anything!!
It looked great right up to the point where they turned on their lighting ...trussing looked great I would have went with trussing and uplighting without their lighting
I concur with the below advice about the speakers. I have had this with my RCF set up. After much head scratching and a call to their support line I was advised to push the mixer gains harder as I was trying to boost a quiet signal with the master on my Pioneer DJM 700 and the volumes on my speakers. I tried it there way and haven't seen the limiters since. It's shit scary though i'm not used to pushing a mixer channel into the top orange lights but they assured me aslong as i stay out of red ok
I like your point on the lighting, I am trying to just getting a few LED lights and then save up for some good scanners or moving heads. It would make the setup look so much better, but also it keeps it clean. I think I clean setup is much nice than lots of lights.
oh, and I agree with you on the too many lights topic Jon, I've sold some of my LED "dot" lights to, because how many dots do we really need? I've gone towards more of a moving head setup as well.
Hey Jon! Venue looked awesome! (until the guy didn't turn off those lights for dinner etc! seriously!) With my k10's and ksub I usually put the gain a few notches more then half and that seemed to get rid of the clipping as much. But I'm also going to try what jemaudio said...
looked like a good night though john shame about the muppet from the venue not looking after the lighting properly iv found that in the uk if the venue has lighting they want to just turn it all on and walk away i usually convince the bridal party to not use the venues lighting and use mine so i have full control over it or i run a long dmx patch from where they plug there controller in and have the control by me if the venue grumbles tell them they are saving a man and that usually works :D
im in there with quincy had that problem with powered set ups befor push the mixer rather than the gain the gain increases the signal coming in meaning if you have a high signal coming in then you are increasing it again with the gain where as if you push the mixer then turn your gain up to where you want your volume you wont be increasing the signal coming in that far if that makes sense hope it helps
@QuincysPops i must have done a god job if u cant see em. i tape them down between the dancefloor and carpet , there is a slight hight difference . cable just sits there and tape over the top.
@jemaudioaustralia no air power still heavy to lift. u dont need to push up with one hand and then try and slide the pin in with the other. push up the speaker with two hands then put pin in safer . and thx for the tip with the sub , ill try that next tiome
r u still selling lights or not really

you just have to spread your lights out a bit, like you do with the trusses. That way it doesn't look "to much" ( i think ).
