2. "clinging blades" also known as parrying is extremely stupid to do if you don't need to do it. Movie sword fights have lots of parries because its theatrical. In the real world, if you see an opening you take it immediately, and you only parry an attack that is threatening your body, not your blade. If you try to parry because it looks cool, you can get binded up and the other person will get you.

1. This is more than just stabbing, there is a lot of strategy involved, especially in foil and epee. With sabre the action is naturally quick (due to the method of getting touches, cutting, which favors speed) so elaborate strategies will be punished.

Fencing is an amazing sport and puts you in amazing shape, allot of people (some who are commenting on this) could probably never endure this kind of sport so dont trash it until you try it. Also sabre is way better to watch and participate in then foil or eppe :) and to one of the comments down below, you dont have to start with foil, start with any weapon that is most comfortable or recommended to you, i started with sabre and did great with it

@xHossome This is Sabre, there are two other weapons. The foil and epee, the best way to get a feel for fencing is to do it. Start off on foil, then branch out.

Besides, I'm not talking about actual rapiers and their use - I'm talking about this video specifically (and fencing in general I suppose). They're so flimsy that they would never be able to pierce chain mail or even hardened leather, and the hits landed with them wouldn't have done anything.
