Been trying to make a sun for a while, and bam simple easy way of making it, thx alot. if you also do different planets it would be great to see them too.
Good tutorial. I have a question. I would like to use a sun like that, but without black background. I need to extract the corona somehow, so I can put it on a transparent background (for a weather icon). How can I use clouds filter if I want a transparent background? Thanks
You would simply have to apply the clouds to only the sun and not the background by selecting only the sun. After the clouds are applied to the sun, go to select/modify/expand by 3 pixels. Then move both layers off of the background and on to a different background.
Thank you SOO much this is nice and slow and i can keep up with the vid, i just started to space art with a old photoshop i have! and its great when i can find videos that go slow and show exactly what to do because i do not know what all of the tools do yet and how to use them :D thanks
This works pretty well with GIMP too, there's one or two things that you have to do slightly differently but you get the same effect, great tutorial :)

@DJMaddmatt
The reason I do it on the whole black background, is because I animate the sun by moving the clouds across the sun horizontally in a loop.

@DJMaddmatt Thanks, but that would mean an additional circle around sun, on some backgrounds. I draw rays myself. :)

How do you switch "Different Clouds" so fast? What hotkey? Thanks.

@obamaisanalien
If you click on the filter tab again, the last thing you did will be shown at the very top next to the hotkey. I believe it is Ctrl + F.

Not sure how to get this by itself. Cannot merge to have sun by itself to use in other space scenes.
