  • so he died?

  • Paramedic training in the US is nothing compared to UK, Australia, and Canada...

In Canada, UK, & Australia there are 4 year BSc Degree's in Paramedicine/Paramedical Science. You learn all your advanced Biological Sciences, Emergency Scenarios, Pharmacology, etc... In US all you need is some Community College LOL :P And the salary in the US for Paramedics is the equivalent to someone working at Burger King pretty much.

Paramedic education needs to be improved in the US :P

  • I was one of the land crew on this job. Through nobody's intention we always get made to look like bumbling idiots who have to be bailed out by the helimed guys. Tbh working in the Peaks we get alot of stuff like this, and it's the time to hospital where the helicopter comes in most valuable. Everyone has their part in the chain

  • Best job in the World

  • There was a doctor on-board throughout and always is on-board the particular Air Ambulance. All Paramedics are trained to Give Pain relieving medication such as morphine and due to the fact a doctor was on scene he was able to give Ketamine to the casualty.

  • @rtaggart497 morphine is very strong i was in a accident were a bunch of boulders fell i got hit and 3 of my ribs were broken it hurt alot but they gave me morphine and it went away in a jiff my freind jon however suffered orthopedic injuryis to his neck

  • the strength of a particular medication depends on your personal body chemistry & tolerance. i have chronic medical issues & regularly have brain surgeries, so the pain medication i take is 80x stronger than morphine scientifically. yet when i take it, it really doesn't feel like i've taken anything at all - it helps dull the pain, but it doesn't affect me mentally.

  • I just want to ask wether paramedics are allowed to give pain medication.

Is it true that there is no doctor flying in that helicopter????

I come from Germany where paramedics aren't allowed to give any medication to the patient. There is always a special emergency doctor in rescue helicopter or ambulance.

    But very nice video

  • in usa paramedics have the right to give pain medication like morphine, yet EMT-B cant give pain medications but can give other type of medications like oral glucose and assess that is after asking permission to use the medication from ur medical control center with some patients medications like the epipen , im us the helicopter dont have doctors but have paramedics that get extra training like crazy to get in it, and they need to have at least 3 years of paramedic experience. :)

  • Paramedics in NSW (Australia) can give up to 32 different kinds of medications (as an Intensive Care paramedic and even more as an Extended Care paramedic)...

    Rather handy!

then again you have to spend 4 years at university for that (Intensive Care Paramedic) and do at least one degree...

A long road and one I have embarked upon - I must be crazy.

it is much the same in the UK (where this is from).

All Paramedics in Emergency Ambulances are degree qualified and can give meds.

  • Morphine is allowed.. I'm from Belgium and i gave it allready a copple of times.. Buth in de helicopter or the emergency/reanimation car there is allways a special emergency doctor on board.

  • Sammy - the media beat up thing and your meeting with this family must have been very difficult. I hope your OK

  • Priceless work

  • ketamine is horse tranquiliser!!!

  • I'm surprised no one has made comment on your post - Let me be the first.

    "google" ketamine

  • Ketamine is not a hose tranq...WTF are you talking about !!! its just a really strong pain med that vets can use on horses because you would need a massive dose of morphine

  • It is in fact nicknamed horse tranq because that's what it's used for, as you just said. Hence why people break into vet clinics and steal it...to get high unfortunately.

  • Good work from everyone involved including members of the public. Shame about the tragic ending :(
